      • Does anyone know how long we've got to activate this SIM?

        • -1

          30 days

          • +3

@shap08: 24 months according to others. See here: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/16132385/redir for details.

            • @Rodo: You must activate your chosen prepaid plan on catchconnect.com.au or on the Catch Connect App within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on the promotion (whichever is earlier). Additionally, you must activate your Catch Connect SIM card within 24 months of purchase, otherwise the SIM card will be cancelled and any credit associated with it will be forfeited. Not transferable or redeemable for cash. You must be aged at least 14 years to purchase a prepaid service with Catch Connect.

      • Yeah i still lean to 109 catch than this

      • Code works on Catch website not Catch Connect itself, weird.

    • Esim?

    Ew, Optus wholesale.

Better off going with the Everyday Extra mobile plan $230 for 250GB for the same value ($1.06/GB) but on Telstra network: https://mobile.everyday.com.au/plans?srsltid=AfmBOorP7Ld8m9l…

    • Does Everyday Extra go on sale? Mine expired end of month so looking into that as it gives 10% off each month on groceries from Woolies.

      • They're currently running a sale on the long expiry SIMs (e.g., 180, 365 days) - usually run a sale roughly every 3 months. Sometimes they run promos (e.g., 2000 EDR points when activated) but at the moment its just a cash discount.

As far as value for a package on the Telstra network goes, Everday Mobile is pretty close to other favorites on Ozb (e.g., Boost).

      • No longer gives you 10% off for the yearly plans. Family member got the plan in December 2023 which just expired. They ended up saving $140 in 10% shops and the plan cost them $170, so net cost for the year was $30 😂 Unfortunately they've ditched the 10% though, so now time to jump ship

Not everyone cares about the amount of mobile data. I'd be good with 24 GB for the year.

      Also international calls vs none.

    • $80 extra. Not everyone needs the extra data. If you do then that is a good deal.

I just came from Boost and was having issues with the Telstra network as well.

      • Each their own.

I travel a fair bit for work, sometimes regionally, and have never gone without coverage on Boost (aka Telstra). Optus' coverage (4G and service) is hopeless, never going back.

I'll just use WhatsApp for international calls when needed - this will draw from 4G if not on WiFi.

          These things are always YMMV.

    • +1

But what if you need the international calls?

      • Would suggest waiting for a decent Boost deal. Their prepaid plans include unlimited international calls to 20 countries: https://boost.com.au/pages/prepaid-plans

        • Boost is best with international calls.
Not sure what will hasoen to boost as Telstra bought them outright.
They may swallow the customers and ditch the brand.

      • +1

Unlimited standard international calls and SMS to 15 selected destinations.

    • lol not even remotely comparable at that price.

The old 120GB plan was $125 last year around this time with 5,000 FlyBuys points, effectively bringing it down to $100.

But this is still a good plan if you need to call any of the 15 included countries, only a hand full MVNOs offer this feature on long expiring plans.

CBA gets $20 off on More Mobile monthly plans, so the 12GB plan is only $4 (4G only and without international calling), would go with Coles Mobile otherwise.

  • I went with Optus $230 with $95 cashback from CR.

Comes to $135 in total for 280GB plan, plus international calling to countries and 5G plan.

    • where is this available? can't see this anywhere.
      Is it already expired?

    • @sajidmib
      link please? interested

  • Thanks bowser .. yes its expired i initially missed it $100 cashback but waited around and came at the right moment with just $5 difference but went for it.

  • Can someone clarify the purchase process? Op says it is in-store only and requires Flybuys, so can I go and get the sim card in-store now and wait till the promotion period starts to activate? How is the discount applied?

    • +2

FlyBuys bonus points are issued at time of purchase, activation is a separate process.

So you won't get the bonus points if you buy now.

      • Thanks browser, so basically what you're saying is buy the $195 sim on the day, but when I pay at the counter it will only be $149 and I also get the 4000 flybuys points?

        • +2

From today, the $195 starter pack should scan $149 at check out.

Remember to scan your FlyBuys barcode for 4,000 bonus points. Points may not show up immediately, but usually added in due course.

Save your receipt, if no bonus points after a few days, email [email protected] to sort it out. Don't waste time with live chat, they will ask you to email the receipt, so just email to tell them you haven't got the points along with a photo of the receipt and your membership number.

  • can I purchase this kit, and use it as top up voucher? this will save time on port out , port back

    • No, this type of starter pack requires port-in or a new number to activate.

There's a cost to port-out, typically $5-10, because you need credit to activate with the temporary provider.

  • Just realised that there are no more 60GB 365 days plans, not from any MVNOs.

Essentially there are no more sub $100 long expiry plans, bad for low data users.

  • Can I buy this in store at Coles or is only available on Coles Mobile website? Ta

  • Is this on 5G?

    • +1

      Optus 4G network

  • We can buy and activate few months later? We will still get the flybuys ones right? Not necessary activate within 30 days?

    • +1

The 30 days usually refer to advertised benefits, such as bonus data or any other free inclusions, activating after 30 days may not get them.

But since this is an upfront discount and bonus points, there is no risk activating after 30 days. I have done it for a couple of years no issues.

Don't wait for too long, 2-3 months should be fine.

  • I had Coles, boost and Vodafone.. I found Vodafone terrible . When I connect to tethering it occasionally not connecting or when browsing half way it stops . Coles and boost still work fine..obviously boost still the best but more exp
