Nice post & description is on point.

  • No 5g?

      • Full Optus 4G Network with VoLTE.
    • +5

No 5G, which can be a blessing.

The Optus 5G upgrade in my area impacted my mobile experience significantly. I received 500 Mbps/1 Mbps in many spots with 5G coverage; switching to 4G offered a smoother experience at 250 Mbps/50 Mbps. Optus 5G latency and jitter could be quite high at times.

    • These el-cheapo plans from MVNOs dont include 5G

5G is reserved for "premium" plans

  • Can you purchase this in-store?

  • +4

No 5G. And if you're in Perth, the internet is pretty bad if you're commuting on the yanchep line. Drops out quite a lot.

  • Do "New services" include port in? I'm with amaysim atm.

  • +4

    No eSIM support yet.

    • only reason stopping me, wonder how amaysim has it but not coles

  • In-store - can we pay using coles gift card?

    • +1

      Yes.
      Edit No, see below comment.

    • +3

No more. When I purchased the $179 Coles prepaid SIM starter pack, it was categorized as a gift card item. The receipt says it is a third-party gift card.

  • Do Coles offer something similar to the Woolworths 10% off a shop each month?

    • +1

No, just switched kid from voda $150 to this $149 as they used 30gb data last year! So 150 and 4g should be fine. V. Easy to set up and ported in their number. Note that online it said this offers needs to be activated by 7th jan, although that may just be to buy at this price and not to activate.

      • Can you 'data gift' like with woolies?

        • Nup

          • @Thrift: Deal breaker for me then…

      • Yes, the 7th is when the deal finishes, like all weekly catalogue specials that finish on a Tuesday (Weekly specials on offer Wed to Tue each week).

      • Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised in a promotion, whichever is earlier, to receive advertised inclusions colesmobile.com.au/terms

    • Yup. Coles Plus saver. 7 bucks a month for %10 off 1 shop per calendar month.

      • But not related to the Coles mobile right?

  • +2

Kogan mobile have the 365day 140gb Small plan for $119.

    • @mandelbrot yes was looking at that as part of the Boxing Day sale, powered by Vodafone.

What is their service like within metro areas?

      • +1

Fine for where I am. Might be different for each city.

      • Vodafone network sharing with Optus for regional also begins first quarter of this year.

    • Kogan charge extra for International calls.

    • And regular price for Kogan 140GB plan is only $150 per year

But we are comparing sub-standard Vodafone (for Kogan) to Optus (for Coles) which has much better coverage outside metro areas

  • We purchased 2 of these last year, $150 365 120GB at $125 06/01/2024.
We recently received stay past 365, you are offered as a thank you 20% off your next recharge.

What we found was the SMS and data usage was the winner as calls receiving & making were average with poor connections even with other Optus callers.

Currently looking towards other carriers 365 offerings.

    • Not many left

They are being either discontinued or facing steep price increases for whats still on offer to new customers

  • +1

The Lebara deal is also good if you want 5G:260GB $189 12 month expiry with access to 5G on Vodafone.

    https://www.lebara.com.au/prepaid-plans/long-expiry/

  • Is this the best deal with international calls ?

    • No
Best deal is to use your data or Wifi to make calls on Whatsapp, Messenger, FaceTime, Viber etc

  • +1

It use to be 100 GB for $119 or in $99 in promo with same call inclusion.

Any provider with $100-$120 range with international call inclusion ? dont care much about data limit.

    • See below optus deal. Cashback expires today.

    • All long gone

Those that did (like Amaysim) have removed international calls

  • is the Optus + Vodafone tower sharing arrangement still going to happen?

  • I’m already with coles mobile so I’m not eligible as it says new service only? I would like to confirm…

    • Confirmed for renewals

Unless you port out and then back in again.
      Then its a new service

  • +1

You would be better off buying the $320 Optus sim for $230 and then get the $95 cashback from cashrewards

280GB for 365 days with 6000 minutes of calls to zone 1 countries

Brazil, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, mainland China, Colombia, Denmark, France, Germany, Greece, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Laos, Lebanon, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, UK, USA and Vietnam

Moved over from Dodo which used Optus but finding the reception and speeds much better now

    • Only if it tracks, there are a lot of horror stories in their respective deals

    • Only if you need that much data. I hate that $150 is the new midrange price point (over $120) and they bumped the data to "compensate"…

      • No
$150 is the new starting point - FOR NOW - Until its gone as well

  • Anyone know when this deal expires?

    • Never mind

      07/01/25

      • Until next time
