Syrup Extension (Replacement for Honey)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

I stumbled across this open beta extension for chrome that was created in light of the debacle of Paypal Honey's extension questionable practices. No affiliation, just hoping other can potentially save money with this plugin/extension

Here's a video of the person who created it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uBy9rERgmlU&pp=ygUVc3lydXAgZ…

It is suppose to find coupon codes for websites that have actually been scrapped from the website and isn't audited by the companies themselves to choose what you can/can't see (if I understand it correctly). I also am a fan of the name they picked for this extension

Supposedly doesnt always show the best deal depending on arrangements they made with certain sites.
Also 'steals' referral payments from creators/other referal links customers might have used to go to a site.
Not sure if there are other issues…

Honey (owned by Paypal) has been 'caught stealing' affiliate link payments. When you click on an affiliate link promoted by a Youtuber or insert 'influencer's' name, they get a commission. When shoppers are using the Honey extension to activate vouchers and promo codes, Honey has been replacing the original affiliate link with their own (that's how they make money) to steal the commission. The person who originally did the hard work, promotes the product and creates the link gets' nothing, Honey collects the commish. Apparently, a YT legal creator has/is launched a class action against Honey for stealing revenue and peoples' income.

      • thanks guyd!! do ozbargains endorse syrup extension?

The affiliate links are not the problem. Anybody paying attention always assumed that. (Did they deny it?)

The real problem is that they conspired with the sellers to not give the best price.

OzBargain has a non intrusive browser extension for Chrome and Firefox.

When you are on a retailer website, it will show you the coupons (taken from OzBargain/Couponese), the various cashback rates (so you can see which has the highest) and related deals for that site, but only if you click on it (it won't popup or insert anything).

    • Wow, how did I not know about this?!

It sounds great (because that is basically what I do manually when looking to buy something).

    • Didn't know about this either. I'll try some tests to see how it stacks up. Cheers mate

  • Looks like there is a version for Firefox as well.

  • how do you know this one is any better than the one it is replacing?

  • Just Google the store and cross check with OzBargain before you check out.
