Why would you want to subscribe for a vacuum sealer?
The subscription is mainly useful for the sous vide.whoosh
Why would you want to subscribe for a sous vide?
Unfortunately they have put useful features behind the subscription which used to be free.
Things like push notifications and custom cooks, guided cooking that you may have found useful. (Obviously the custom cook can have work around using notes etc).
Anova are just being a bit dodgy.@maverickjohn: I know this, thankfully I’m “grandfathered” in
The question is why would anyone look at it and go “great! I want that!”
@linkindan: I think the push notification is useful other than that no other feature is a deal breaker.
@maverickjohn: I’m not gonna pay, or recommend anyone else pays, $2/month for push notifications
@linkindan: I agree
It's stupid that it's paywalled to begin with@maverickjohn: I have the Pro SV, so it should be a long time before I want or need to upgrade, but even with the free app I won’t be going Anova again
@linkindan: I just got given the pro for a birthday gift. Which is really kind of them, but like you they were before all the subscription based BS. I'm sticking with free but I'm a little annoyed I won't have the notifications.
@maverickjohn: If you had an account prior to the subscription shit starting, you can email support and them give you access
@linkindan: They have one for theirs, not me I just got mine a week ago. I don't think he knew that Anova pulled this crap
@maverickjohn: Ah I see, right, sorry
I’ve only had one coffee today aha
It looks slightly better than my MUCH cheaper Aldi vacuum sealer
Yeah, a vacuum sealer is a basic bit of kit. Half that price could get you a decent one. I do have them pop up loads on AliExpress adverts for some reason. The oddest one shows a series of different foods being vacuum sealed, one of which is a live, wriggling crab. I don't think that's a great choice for advertising on the international market.
If you have a vacuum sealer, you could always get "Anova" one ;-)
I have this and it's been excellent, but very hard to support this company given what they pulled with the sous vide sub cash grab…
I agree with this. But for now this doesn't need the app and it is one of the few who have marketed as good for use with wet marinades.
But Anova is soon going to lose their business if they keep this up.
Is this much better than the Inkbird VS06 one?
I was originally going to get the inkbird, but I'm just not a fan of their products they copy but never seem to make anything good. Only ok.
So I started to research and this one is consistently the top of available choices.I really liked my inkbird one, It seals very well compared to my previous crappy one i had. I would have highly recommended it…. Except then one of the plastic parts that locks the lid down broke off, so now i need to apply pressure to one side of the lid every time I am using it. I might have to look in to this, I am sick of buying crap that doesnt last. Thanks OP
Same experience with my Inkbird after maybe 4-5 uses?
@linkindan: Sounds about right. It was within a month. I thought it was broken because it stopped sucking air out the bags, but then i realised what had happened
If you are serious about vacuum sealers and want to spend, instead of spending big money on branded plastic ones that break quickly invest in commercial quality. This is what a butcher shop would use, around $500 delivered.

I like Inkbird high heat bbq gloves, apart from that their products fall short for me too, the instant read thermometer was such poor quality components, it stopped working very soon after purchase.
Whats notmal price of this? I got an inkbird December and the seal is too hot melts the plastic too much causing it to rip.
Does yours have a button to switch between Inkibird bags and “others”?
I’ve found the Inkbird bags are very thin, so I think the heating strip doesn’t get as hot on that setting
Just a seal button
I already have one but bought anova one. This one better be good I'm sick of the crappy $50 ones such a chore to use.
I'm not surprised to read about anova being dicks. I have their oven. And they screwed up a compulsory firmware update so badly that the oven became unusable for about a month. Until they finally got their sh1t together.
I'm never buying anova Anova oven.
Seems they haven't learnt anything from that debacle. Subscription for a basic feature is enshittification manifest.
What does this object do that my aldi one that might have cost fifty bucks but was so long ago I don’t remember doesn’t?
Thought this was a UST projector.
Does it require monthly subscription?
