Which Dishwashing tablet Do You Use?

I do not prefer using powder for the dishwasher. Which type do you use and prefer? I welcome any comments. I use finish tablet

I am looking to reduce my daily living expenses and am reviewing items one by one. This effort aligns with that goal. I currently use Finish products but have not frequently tried other brands. Your views are highly valued. Which products do you usually purchase, and why? Which specific type do you recommend? How effective do you find it for both regular cleaning and removing tough stains?

Coles or Woolies home brand powder. They clean fine.

    • +3

Yes! Just remember to add some powder for the pre-wash, and top up the rinse aid when needed.

      • +2

Never found rinse aid to do much good except increase my supermarket bill..🤔

        • +4

Avoids spots on the glassware. Not needed if your water is very soft. A $1.50 bottle lasts many months.

          • +2

@bargaino: My machine complains when the rinse aid runs out. I dilute Finish r.a. to 50% with water and the glassware comes out great.

        • Rinse aid totally screws my result, get cloudy glasses when I use it, so gave up

          • @Jackson: I don't know how to bring this up without sounding condescending, but were you using it right? Normally cloudy glasses is one of the things rinse aid would be helping to reduce, rather than causing.

            • +1

@MHLoppy: yeah I was using it right, and the way I know is the first time I didnt, but after reading the manual and doing it all right it was still cloudy as. I had to put up with it until the thing was done which took ages as there wasn't any way to get the stuff out. It's a cheap Akai unit from bunnings, it's not the best but if you have watched technology connections' youtube videos on dishwashers there's not much to these things, it's a sealed box with some sprinkers and a heater in it, no reason for the machine to be causing a problem afaik

        • i have always seen a difference in glassware with those.. but ymmv. i use the aldi brand one anyways. friend of mine use some white vinegar instead

        • Really? If you're using tablets they often have some included, but if you're using just power you'll absolutely see a difference.

    • +1

+1 to the Coles powder. Made in Australia as well. For best results, put a little outside the dispenser so that the detergent is used during the initial rinse cycle.

      • +1

Is the Coles powder the old one in a box that I haven't been able to find, or is it one in a plastic bottle? The box used to be 2 bucks and worked fine, but seems for the last few years I can't find it, the bottle costs twice as much and no difference

    • i find those powder would leave some white residue on stainless steel cookware even on a 2hr cycle. i use the powder for prewash slot then add in the Aldi tablet which gave the best result.

    • The coles powder leaves a horrific chemical smell at the end of wash. Makes me feel like the entire cycle has to be washed a second time.

    Whatever is generally on special.

    • Exactly this…..

    • +1

      Same here.

They all seem to work fine for me, so no point being precious of brands.

  • +3

    Morning Fresh

  • Fairy most recently. Mainly because it was on special/needed to pad an order for free shipping.

Morning Fresh started to lack performance so stopped using it ~5 years ago.

    My wife's

    • -1

      Bro.. haha

    • +5

Could take this a few ways. Im gonna go with wife makes JV do the dishwashing and wont let him choose what detergent.

    • Didn’t you sell him?

  • +4

    Dishwasher?

We use Tandil from Aldi and do it the old fashioned way.

  • +5

    I use Aldi dishwasher powder.

Are you talking about dishwashing liquid for hand washing dishes, eg Morning Fresh? Or liquid detergent for the dishwasher?

    • +1

Aldi powder is now absolutely rubbish.

Old formula use to be good. New formula leaves Powderly residue.

Woolworths Shine is fantastic. Unfortunately made in China but works perfectly (when used with Aldi rinse aid).

      • I haven't noticed any residue? I do get Shine when I've forgotten to go to Aldi

        • +1

Fortunate for you that you didn’t waste your money.

          I’m sure they changed suppliers/formula.

          It’s not only me,

          Check out https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/aldi-logix-automat…

I’ves used heaps of brands tablets and some powder, this is the only powder I had issues with.

I thought I must have used too much detergent but wasn’t the case.

Had to run a hot wash with no detergent to get it off

Never heard of UNDO? Is it like Ctrl+Z? Undo the grease and mess?

Morning Fresh for me. I remember using some random cheap brand that was a very watery green liquid in a primary school camp helping clean up dishes. Terrible performance and dried out my hands to the point my skin was peeling.

  • Whatever the wife buys.

  • Just give a squirt of morning fresh in there.

    "she'll be right mate".

  • -2

Usually just hot water. If soap is needed, I use a small amount of diluted Bronners castile soap.

  • +20

Just buy the cheapest powder, but use it properly.

This video will convince you to use the cheapest powder

    • +5

I was hoping someone was going to post one of his videos. This is the answer. Powder is far superior to tablets in every way, especially when you choose a cycle which has a pre-wash mode and you sprinkle some powder on the inside of the door.

I haven't seen this new video but after watching his original video some years ago on tablets/packets vs powder here: https://youtu.be/_rBO8neWw04?si=UE5QGJT8nkK4R2bX and here: https://youtu.be/Ll6-eGDpimU?si=fCTw0cBWAbpaU0kP I switched from tablets to powder and I've never looked back.

  • Have very sensitive skin so use Ecostore Ultra Sensitive

  • +2

You can't put regular liquid dishwashing liquid in the dishwasher. Dishwasher works on different principles to hand washing. Regular liquid detergent will create a bunch of suds and spill out onto your floor. Ive done it accidentally and its a bad time.

    • You’re right, but how do you ACCIDENTALLY fill your dishwasher with dishwashing liquid and then turn it on a cycle, spilling suds on the floor?

      • I had some oven trays that were really dirty. I gave them an initial clean with dishwashing liquid then did not bother to rinse them before sticking in the dishwasher.

Doing this has been fine with smaller things but I guess there was too much soap left on the trays. Got suddy water everywhere!

  • I didn't know there was liquid for dishwashers? 🤔

  • In a dishwasher? You'll need a detergent without a sudsing additive. Most have them because people associate bubbles=clean.

You can find it from commercial restaurant suppliers, but as it's so easy to dilute it with water, it's hard to compare value.

    @welcomeUniverseWorld …
Some people still wash dishes by hand (myself included).

+++ My GF's dishwasher died 2 weeks ago … So she has also had to revert to washing by hand.

Usually either Palmolive or Coles brand … Depends what's on special at time (but as said, this is for hand-washing dishes).

    • +4

I used to wash by hand. I was all like, dishwashers are a gimmick for lazy people. Then i moved into a house with a dishwasher, used it and then wondered why I wasted so much time doing them by hand.
      Each to their own though.

      • Only takes 5 minutes to wash dishes by hand.

        • +4

If you live by yourself it might only take 5 minutes. Pretty sure running the dishwasher once a day is more time efficient for a family.

        • 5 minutes? Takes me an hour to wash my dishes. I do a very thorough job though. Also i would normally let them pile up for a week before doing them.
          Dishwasher good.

        • This takes longer than a dishwasher

  • Powder, its cheaper.

  • Whatever is on special

  • Aldi or finish on special for dishwasherandyandil for hand washing dishes. Hate lemon perfume in dishwasher, so always get dw tablets which are plain or sensitive.

  • +3

It probably matters less than you think. Find something in your price range that smells nice and makes you feel good for buying. Prefer powers you can part measure and remember to clean the filters regularly. https://youtu.be/jHP942Livy0

    • +1

Concur with cleaning the filters …at least every week, it is amazing how grease etc accumulates 🤔

  • Miele tablets - reasonably cheap and work well.

    • Where do you buy 'em from? Cheaper than Finish top variant?

      • Direct from Miele. I think just under 50c a tablet.

  • +2

Logix Platinum 18 in 1 from Aldi. Great result…great price.

  • None. Tablets do not work in our sink….fortunately and cheap as chips.

  • +1

Usually buy from Catch or Amazon when there is a deal. Generally Fairy or Finish, whatever is cheaper.

  • I use the Woolies brand dishwasher powder and it works well. Recently my wife bought the Aldi brand powder and it was rubbish - continually left residue on all the plastic items and didn't clean that well either. A quick check of reviews suggests there has been a change in the Aldi formulation and there are lots of complaints about the new version. I ended up chucking it and going back to the Woolies powder.

  • Found that after prolonged use, the ALDI brand etched a few of our glasses.
SO back tio the expensive Polish ones.
    (Finish)

  • +3

If you have a Reject Shop nearby, they sell Finish and Fairy tablets at permanently discounted prices

    • I think there is one in Broadway? Is it cheaper than Amazon subscribe?

  • +1

Used to use the ALDI but have recently moved over to the Costco ones as they work out cheaper per unit and seem to work fine on the short eco wash.

  • Woolworths brand are cheapest available. So far they do a great job.

If your machine does not have a “tablet” function you’re going to get best value with powder and potentially a better clean.

Also, check if your machine requires salt eg. Bosch. The Aldi top end tablets include salt the cheaper ones do not.

  • +3

Costco branded Kirkland, cheapest and best

  • +1

Woolies powder. Cheap and never had an issue, plus can add a bit to the door for the pre-wash cycle.

  • +1

+1 for powder, but when we were still on tablets Earth Choice worked the best for us, bonus it's one of the cheapest when on sale

  • +2

Earth choice. Has worked for me since and doesn't have the very strong smell after washing like finish

    • Often on special at Catch. Good value with one-pass.

  • I use KOH, I buy them online but I think I saw either Coles or Woollies now sell KOH products

  • Been using the ALDI ones, can't tell the difference between them and the expensive Finish ones.

  • I have recently started using these after reading good stuff about them and happy with it: https://www.chemistwarehouse.com.au/buy/145880/lucent-globe-…. They also have detergent sheets for washing machines, which I am yet to try.

  • +1

    ecostore fragrance free tablets.

  • I use the Coles Ultra tablets. They're not the cheapest dishwasher tablets you can buy but they work well and still don't cost much.

  • Ecyo dishwasher tablets on subscription. Probably pay more than I should but they do a really good job, have no smell, and very non-toxic/non-plastic etc.

But restore my Ozbargain card by making my own bench spray with a bit of dish-soap, water and bicarb in a 500ml bottle.

  • Aldi all the way. Cheapest AND most effective.

  • For those who wash by hand…

    https://www.instagram.com/reel/DDnrqEjJWDp/

You can Google the evidence, it's there.

  • house brand or the finish 110 pack around $20 from bigw / chemist when it goes on sale.

  • Tried those weird sheets that is advertised on facebook.
Went back to tablets because the sheets just fall apart and leave bits of paper all over my still dirtied dishes.

    • Lucent Globe?

      • that's it

        • I was considering trying them but all the FB comments just seemed a little fake and over the top positive for some dishwasher or washing machine detergent (most likely friends and family of the two kids running it).

  • +2

Kirkland Signature from Costco. Theres like 120 in a box for about $20

  • Aldi. 17c each, they do the job very well.

If it's a light load I'll use the Woolworths 12.8c tablets instead.

  • Aldi Brand tablets for along washes (1hr plus) and aldi powder (logixs) for quick washes. I have used most brands. I find that the Powerball gives anything plastic (ikea kids bowls, tupperware etc) or silicone (spatchulas etc) a chemical smell/pong. Aldi brand is the only one that doesnt do that.
