49" monitor … how far away from the screen do u have to sit?

    • +3

Same as all other monitors, its not in the same aspect ratio as TVs are so you can still sit close and the screen curvature will wrap your peripheral vision.

Why tf do they have 4x 49" OLED monitors with slight variances. Can somone summarise the differences between them all and tell me if this is a good buy or nah. Thanks

save yourself the headache of figuring that out and just get the 57 inch instead

240Hz VA with crummy backlighting for HDR

144Hz OLED with smart TV features (including very basic speakers)

240Hz with and without smart TV features (including very basic speakers)

That's it. I'd get the 240Hz OLED without smart features for $1300 or less if I had to buy this kind of monitor.

  • how many apps can you have side by side?

    • +2

That's like asking how many ways can you cut lace for shoes: it's individual, but it has the dimensions of two full 27" 16:9 monitors.

  • Deals for the 240Hz version barely go for much more with code stacking for all customers, definitely worth the step up if this has to be your form factor.

Would expect 360Hz and maybe a 500Hz version next year, as per the 16:9 and 21:9 models.

  • Its worth asking the samsung customer service (online chat) for a discount code. I got 10% off code for a similar monitor all I had to do was prove I had an existing samsung product by providing a serial. YMMV

  • I have a samsung account, and I have a daughter with a .edu.au email account.. but damned if I can find how to get into the education store.
With Lenovo they just added it to MY account, here I'm trying to create my daughter an account but as she is under 18 it will not let me create one… so seems out of luck.
I was tempted by these at $1499 a week ago, this price would have me on the decision edge…despite my revulsion of trying to work on these ultrawides or play games on them from an xbox, they're great for driving sims.

    • create one for u with her email?

    • log in with your personal account and it allows you to enter a .edu email for verification

      • Thanks, tried that but it just crashes out on me… try the education link or the student deals link and it opens then screws up..
I've gone the "create an account in my name with her edu email" wil see where that gets me.
Nope, same issue : 400 Bad Request

        • Try a different browser or device

  • This might be a silly question but why do people go crazy when the 42’ LG C4 gets under $1,200 but then this gets little attention? This is OLED 49’ with 144hz and can likely be had for around $1k with $100 trade in plus 10% voucher. Is it because people see more value in the tv setup? I’m very tempted by this one.

    • +1

Comparable. The 42 inch C4 actually has more screen area than this. I'd prefer the C4 because obviously 16x9 is better for movies.

      • This monitor is designed to be fully compatible with the PC, unlike the C4 TV, which is clearly an OLED model with a small screen size

        • Only just saw this but I thought I should still correct you. A 42 inch 16:9 is actually bigger than this monitor in area. This is ~4000cm square while a 42inch C4 is ~4900cm square.

Also 4k is higher resolution at ~8.3m pixels while this monitor is only ~7.4m.

So it's kinda better in almost every way unless you really want the very wide aspect ratio.

    • +1

Because that's way more screen real estate while having worthwhile TV function and better speakers, while this has a 240Hz big brother for $150ish more in sales.

This product needs to drop in price, a lot.

    • The TV features are actually good on the LG, they’re a nuisance on this. It’s also a much better OLED

  • Cant find it on the edu store

  • Has anybody had success with asking for and stacking the 10% loyalty coupon for this in the Education store?

  • Tried to have 10% off voucher from email but they said the voucher cannot be used on edu website:(
