Need Work for 2 Months

Just throwing it out there to get some ideas. I'm a teacher, working as a CRT the last 5 months. Now I need something to keep me going until school starts again at the beginning of February.

I'm not super fit anymore, so I can't do the labouring/warehouse jobs I used to before I started teaching. I used to drive a ute as a courier, but that was a long time ago. Thinking driving again. Have applied for a ton of places on SEEK, and have joined a bunch of agencies, no luck. Any ideas/advice? Given I only need 2 months work my options seem to be very limited. My car isn't flash enough for UBER, and I really don't want to do the UBER eats thing if I can avoid. I live in Melbourne.

          • @gromit: To be fair, there is some middle ground. You should only account for the portion of those things that are related to your work (and similarly you'd deduct them from your taxable income, no?).

            • @johnno07: All of those things are related to your work and yes you would be deducting them. Many people though try and fool themselves into thinking they aren't part of the cost.

              • @gromit: They should always be factored into the costs, and are always included in mine. I can understand the argument of “well I have to pay for those things anyways” for things like service, rego and part of insurence. But I feel like it’s still important to include all the portions you use for work to get a clear picture of actual earnings.

                • @Nuggies: exactly. not only just for a clear picture though as working in this fashion has an impact on the cost of those items and of depreciation.

Security guard at like a mall or somewhere that doesn't really need security. Basically just become a glorified customer service representative.

Was going to recommend cleaning but that can get pretty physical in the busy periods.

I looked into security, it would seem by the time I'm qualified I'll almost be back at work. I might look into it for the future though.

you sound like a difficult person

Totally. I don't wanna do Uber eats, and I wanted to do something different than tutoring for the next few months as I teach all year. I suggested something like driving, but I'm open to anything really. Just impossible to please. Thank you to those who have been helpful, I'm looking into your suggestions.

'I'm open to anything really. Just impossible to please'

apart from conflicts in those two sentences, I just don't understand why you are not in high demand as an attractive personality … ?

        • Well you've set the bar low enough. It shouldn't be much of a challenge.

        • You could just leave you know.

they always looking for before and after school care staff for the holiday programs but they might be closed for couple weeks over school holidays.
Since you are a teacher you would get a higher pay as well under a diploma staff. I think it be around $35 plus as an educator and more as a co-ordinator. If its a split shift you also get paid a bit extra like another $20 to come back for the afternoon shift

    • This was my dad's gig when casual relief jobs were dry.

Go live in a 3rd world country until Feb. I have a few friends that do this every year. You'll save money. I think I was living in India like a king for $50-$100 a week.

You can even try to do a little remote work while overseas.

uber eats etc is probably the easiest to get into for short term, dealing with the public isn't too bad for the most part.

  • Go regional, not sure what fruit is in season but backpackers made decent money doing this for short term work

    • they are not fit enough for picking fruit, will get fit while doing it tho.

    Christmas Santa at shopping centres

  • Another thought is that the people who put hallmark cards and Coventry studios cards in their respective stores are independent contractors

    Thinking driving again.

Uber, Taxi, Chauffer company, dude who parks cars at airport or otherwise meets arriving passengers?

NDIS recipients often need drivers to get them to shopping, appointments and other events.9

I think the OP is a relief teacher so not specialized in a certain subject in demand.

My kid has been tutoring school subjects since he was 14.

Stop and Go man at public works
Car park attendant for private property

Any paid positions within SES or Army Reseve

    Garbage collector

    Working with disengaged youth

Wrapping Xmas presents in shopping centres

I would try the Australian Electoral Commission. They're hiring APS1s for casual work right now and they're also accepting registrations of interest from anyone who wants to work as a polling official next year.

If you like driving, contact funeral providers to participate in the processions.

Might even be money in collecting dead bodies from crime scenes or cleaning the actual crime scenes afterwards.

For short term work for person who doesn't like other people, is he allowed to operate a pay per view site where he's not wearing any clothes?

I have a friend who is a courier who is currently absolutely smashed with work, they have huge amounts of freight piling up in their depot at the moment because they haven't got enough drivers. Maybe reach out to the courier companies to see if there's any work in your area.

Can be good. Relative used to work for small couriers on call. Usually picking up things that could fit in his enclosed van. His best day was picking up some engineering part from Brisbane and transporting it to Sunshine Coast for $400.
