Hate to be the bearer of bad news. The price before black friday was $25. As soon as black friday hit, they raised the RRP to $50 but kept it at $25. It's a fake sale

    • +16

Thanks, nearly got scammed on this one.

    • +13

Does this happen across the board for all sale items at the supermarket?

      • +1

        highly likely

i always watch the shapes box price

        normal price = $4
        on special 2 for $6
        on special #2 $2 each

they are on special for $2 what feels like 1 a week or once a fortnight.

i only buy them for $2 each

        • Thanks

    • +16

Which they are not meant to do…. I believe it's illegal?

      • +6

It is illegal, or at least against Consumer Law.

        • +1

how can we make them pay for this breach?

          • +7

@capslock janitor: There'll be a government department whose job it is to follow up. "Your call is important to us, please hold the line. You are number 273 in the queue". You wait. Your complaint is added to a database about complaints. Some smart manager turns that into something that sounds like they did something- "we handled 9834 complains". Government is happy they can blow smoke, but cuts the department's funding anyway. Meanwhile, supermarkets invent more loyalty scheme BS to make consumers think they are getting something out of the supermarket. The reality is, they pass the costs into the price of groceries plus the costs associated with running the scheme and advertising it and rip off those who can least afford it even more.

This is the real “fake news”. Should be illegal. Make accc great (for 1st time).

    • +6

I’d like to agree with you, but I’ve bought them in the past. They used to be $40 and occasionally went on sale for $25. Most other places sell them for $40 to $50.

    • +8

I concur. Commented just so I can neg.

    • +1

how did you manage that detective work?

    • +6

This fake half price is bs. Better report Big W to the ACCC.
It only took me 2 minutes to fill out their form.

    • Isn't the linked image sale pricing for black friday… not regular price.

    • How were you able to the price history? Cheers

  • +8

    $16/kg

    • 3.20 per 200g block

(Not that they've been 200g for some time)

      • $16.67/kg when blocks half price
        $3 for 180g
        5.55 blocks to the Kg

        • +1

They $7 now for 180g, price increase every few months, glad inflation is under control. Was 2 for $12 deal last time I saw, which used to be regular price lol. $19/kg half price now makes this good deal.

          • +1

@Kommodore: Supermarket "half price" specials are sometimes less than half their 'normal' price😉
Their strange Maths is commented on in Deals.

I only notice when price is unusually low. Don't notice 'normal' price as never buy then.

It varies. Some 180g were $2 in October All were $3 last month when I bought ($16.67/kg).

So as low as $11.10/kg - the time to buy!

But I limit buying chocolate to 1 or 2 blocks a month, preferring far better foods.
Buying a big box like this - I know it would be eaten in a week😜

            • @INFIDEL: Yeah the $2 ones only when they clearing out old discontinued flavour. But they have algorithm that sets clearance now too and will keep it at higher prices longer.

$3.50 will be lowest price going foward until they raise it again sometime next year to 1/2 off at $4 I bet.

Would be a lot more expensive if not processed offshore right

I'd rather buy several share bags/packs when they're half price. Get what I want with more variety. Not a fan of Picnic or Cherry Ripe

  • +1

    picnic

God I haven’t had a picnic chocolate bar since maybe 1996-1998… maybe it’s time to try it again

    • +5

Maybe there's a good reason for you to avoid!
      (I've avoided picnic for longer)

    • +7

Quality has taken a hit since then. Don't get your hopes up.

    • +2

Just buy a $1 / $1.50 Snickers next time you see it on sale at the checkout, they're still good. Picnic is mid.

    • +2

Picnic is one of those hidden gems - you never go out of your way to buy it but it’s always enjoyable when you do 😊.

  • purchased this from Costco today for $26.99

    • +1

      Devo.

      • +3

        Whip It.

        • +5

          Whip it good.

          • +1

@B3: Guess I'm rewatching Casino again.

    • Its normally round that price i think when I've got it at Costco

  • +16

Cadbury stopped tasting like chocolate years ago. Just sugar laden crap. Needs to be 30%+ cocoa butter to be labelled chocolate in most countries. This stuff fluctuates in the 20-25% zone making it….not chocolate.

    • Dudu

    • Definitely far better off baking brownies or puddings with the coles dark and some cocoa to bolster flavours than eating present day nestle and mondalez chocolate.
Stretches one's dollar much further too.

    • +1

It's a factory product which vaguely resembles chocolate.

Sugar, brown colour and some random high melting point grease-like substance. Gross

    • How dare you, there's a glass and half… of…. (looks up notes…) cheer…..

  • +9

Whittakers when on sale. Way better than Cadbury.

  • Just FYI Woolies have Favourites for $19.50/kg
(If you don't have access to Big W)

I think I bought this for the regular price of $14 at Costco five years ago. This comment serves no purpose and helps no one.

    • +13

      This comment saved my life.

      • +2

Hey Duke Nukem… buy a few boxes of these, throw them on your bed, relax, then out with your catchphrase. Rest in pieces! Because that's what you are doing. Resting on ummmm pieces.

  • +6

They tried the same deal last year - https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/764771

Thankfully the great "WatchNerd" prevented ozbargainers from getting duped with this comment-

"Using math it equates to $1.60 per 100g. I would expect it to be cheaper if buying 1.56kg.
Might as well just buy Aldi Choceur 200g blocks $3.49 ($1.75 per 100g)"

  • +1

    Shame it's Cadbury

    • +3

Not a glass and a half full guy?

      • +3

Not since the yanks bought it and pooped over what quality there was. Before this it was good

    • What brand good then?

      • +5

Whittakers, Darrel Lee, Lindt, Choceur from Aldi, almost everything else really

        • I find Darrel Lea revolting now they're a mass-market brand. Formulas have definitely changed recently.

I never liked Whittakers or Lindt either.

          Maybe I don't actually like chocolate…

          • @BradH13: Is dark chocolate better than milk or still bad

  • +3

    negged for misleading price

  • -1

    $25 worth of landfill

  • +1

At least with a box of favourites you have little Turkish delights left over

  • +2

    Nieg for dodgy Woolworths pricing.

  • +1

Bought this for around $15 last year at Costco when it was on sale. Wouldn't mind paying up to $20 but it borders rip off at $25. Calling it 50% off after price jacking. Shameful behaviour

  • +1

Another example of a sham sale

  • Isn't this cheaper at Costco?

  • Good for fund raising?

    • better for gut raising.

  • +1

Woolworths group, where half price is the new normal price..

  • +1

Curious, where can I get something like this - 2/3 kilos of assorted chocolates for cheap?

    • +1

      cadbury factory

i picked up 5kg of picnics box for $5. some picnic boxes were wrapped and some were bare.

  • Dodgy sale practices and it's not a real deal. Hence it will and should be negged.
