Sorry, I know this is unrelated, but I remember when these were 250g.

    167g is insane.

    • +9

      Shrinkflation at its finest.

    • +7

@ricee007 Yeah, you're so right, it's ridiculous! I also remember when they were all 250g. But now they are 25-35% smaller and about 250% more expensive. What a greedy and stupid society we live in.

But even so, it's a good deal, thankyou @samsungnote10

I've tried the Vanilla Passionfruit flavour and it's pretty good, I would buy it again. Does anyone know if this is for NSW too?

    • +8

Yet another way to make more profit after they've finished fiddling with the recipe to make it cheaper to produce.

        • +5

          lol wut

          • @Maglia Nera: Cadbury operates in a competitive environment the government is supposed to regulate. Government incompetence (including printing money, which causes inflation) is why prices are higher.

        • All the negatives your post has gotten here explains how the government gets away with things like instigating inflation, not regulating the economy, then blaming it on business or the RBA.

      • +3

And us consumers are partly to blame, as long as we still keep buying their products, they will take the piss and will continue to do the same. Only way we can fight back is to stop buying their products (not specifically cadbury) and make it clear we wont put up with shrinkflation/ price gouging anymore.

    • +11

Probably can’t even claim a glass and half of milk per block any more.

      • +2

A glass and a half in a thimble

      • +3

        Maybe not even a glass

    • +1

The special editions are always lower than the regulars

Do you remember when they originally reduced it, Cadbury said people wanted less chocolate?

They weren't as accomodating in mentioning that they added palm oil and reduced the amount of cocoa butter.

Cadbury reduced the size of its family blocks in 2009 from 250g to 200g, before partially lifting it in 2013 back to 220g because of disquiet from customers. Then in 2015, it made the call to trim the block back to 200g again. Now it is the size of a Freddo from 1963. Ok, I made that last bit up.

Do you remember when they originally reduced it, Cadbury said people wanted less chocolate?

What they meant is, people want less Cadbury chocolate.

      • +4

Do you remember when they used to advertise "A glass and a half in every block"? And now they advertise "There's a glass and a half in everyone"?

I found out why and it's obvious when you think about it. In the small print on the back of the packs it says something like "The equivalent of a glass and a half of full cream milk in every 250g of Cadbury Dairy Milk Chocolate". Or something to that effect. I guess someone, somewhere pointed out that there's no longer a glass and a half in every block!

      Not these flavours.

But back to the point you are making.

I remember buying these blocks for 20c

    • You can buy a bunch of bananas for less, and you'll lose weight.
      My pleasure.

      • One banana has as much sugar as 1/4 block of chocolate.

        • And how much fiber is in a 1/4 block of chocolate?

          • @ndenham: Dietary fibre?

            3.4 g per 100g according to google

Despite the ridiculous shrinkflation It's pretty amazing for Coles to have an actual real bargain. Even though 95% of the store is fake bargains.

    • -3

      Real bargain???

Cadbury Chocolates are regularly discounted by 50%.

Its a case of what is the real price???

Thats why they have been taken to task by the ACCC

Only a fool pays the full price these days

      Definitely not any OBers…LOL

      • -1

Cadbury chocolates are not regularly discounted by 50%, I am ignoring the nonsense discount of 50% but the chocolate is still $4.00 a block.

This is $2.00 a block. I haven't seen a block of Cadbury chocolate for $2 in god knows how long.

Not that Cadbury is a good chocolate but sometimes you need chocolate at a bargain price.

I'm genuinely trying to avoid Coles and Woolworths now. Aldi has put a lot of prices up too but no where near as bad as Colesworth. Butchers for meat, Veg shop for veg.

      • Definitely not any OBers…LOL

stop imposing your standards on everyone

This was posted almost a month ago. I still can't believe there's so much stock left over. Also the key lime pie had a weird taste to it, but it was surprisingly good!

    • +1

Yeah, posted it a few weeks back but online too now 👍 some down to 50c instore too. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15655291/redir
Couldnt stomach some of the flavours, but they actually made amazing truffles/rum balls when adding cream and rum/essence.

    • +2

Key lime pie was unexpectedly good. Well worth a try.

    • +2

Fwiw I thought the key lime pie was nice.

  • +2

Havent tried the Curtis Stone Key Lime Pie

The actual dessert is amazing, one of my favourites, especially in the summer…. I'll have to try the chocolate bar but don't think it will work.

    • +1

The chocolate bar isn't "disgusting" per se, but it reminded me of disinfectant a little. It was more just disappointing. The lime flavouring was just too fake. I finished the block, but I would not repurchase it or recommend it.

    • +1

Yeah key lime pie itself is fantastic, so I tried the chocolate and I recommend you DON'T.

  • +5

the Lamington flavour is pretty good, wish I picked up more of them.

    • Only one sold out at my local

  • +2

I tried the "Slices Crackle" this week (not in this sale) and got to say it was one of the worst chocolates I've had. Tasted like stale ricebubbles in lacklustre chocolate, I don't reckon that will stay on the market for long. I used to love chocolate crackles at parties.

    • +2

      I love it!

      • Thought perhaps the one i bought was nearing expiry but i just checked in the bin for wrapper and its 23/4/25. The whole family found it pretty ordinary but taste is subjective i guess.

      • +1

@Wolfenstein98k Off Topic: Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein 2009 are two of my favourite games ever 👍

    • @Gravy My comment is off topic, but you reminded me that I did like chocolate crackles as a kid! I don't think I've actually had one since then (probably at a party like you said) and it's true they are excellent 👍 Now just gotta work out how do I get me some!? 😅

  • -6

Don't bother with key lime, it's absolutely disgusting. What a waste of money when I bought it!

  • +4

They sound gross. I got one of each to try.

    • 🤣🤣 Underrated comment! Btw dig your avatar👍

  • Curtis stone chocolate $6 at my local Coles….

    ($3.59 per 100g)

  • +4

Tried the key lime pie tonight for the first time and thought it was quite nice.

  • I recommend the vanilla passion fruit or lamington flavour if you can find any ,
also I bought lots of blocks of the key lime pie when I they were 50c and are getting through them slowly ,
tastes a bit like condensed milk , chocolate and cookie crumbs .
Stocked back up a little when I saw them again for a dollar earlier this week so how bad could they be .
Well too be honest I have seen them for $2 and I wouldn’t pay that for 167g blocks of palm oil .

  • tastes a bit like condensed milk , chocolate and cookie crumbs

Those are the ingredients for key lime pie, sans the chocolate

    • Hense the description for people so they have some idea before they buy.

  • Would get more Key Lime at that price but online from your link above says 6 bucks, so.

    • +2

Go to your local store, they may have marked it down. 2 stores were $2 and they had over like 100+ Key Lime in stock, it was crazy how much stock there were

      • Same at my local stores, the key lime pie chocs are $2 each and there's heaps in stock right now.

  • Which flavour is the best?

  • +2

I got the Key Lime Pie, I really really like it. Just taste like lime and chocolate and it has crunchy cookie bits in it which i love…… i give it a 8/10. I know it's not a flavour everyone would love but I am gonna go back and buy a bunch more lol.

    • Yeah its nice. The lime reminds me of another choc that I can't put my finger on… maybe one of the Roses flavours

  • This stacks with the $25 off $80 promotion (ends tomorrow).
    https://www.coles.com.au/offers#terms

Can confirm it works but stock is limited in my area and there's a maximum of 12 of any one product.

  • the orange showing 1/2 price

    $3.00
    Save $3.00
    $1.80 per 100g | Was $6.00
