Nope good oil.
Wasnt so good when it contained a ptfe grit, but that was removed decades ago and moly added in its place.Do you think the word 'synthetic' has any real meaning & that buyers can expect PREMIUM-brand to apply the same/similar standard when labeling their oil as 'synthetic', Thanks. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/comment/15990744/redir
Yes, a Synthetic oil primarily contains either group 3, 4 or 5 base oils.
Group 3 is controvertial since it's Hydrocracked crude, but the API won the argument, because they're toally right in their claims you literally cannot pull Group 3 oil from the ground.Even better is if you can find out what type of basestock an oil is; for example Penrite have a range that explicitly say 'PAO and Esther' (which is group 4 and 5), and Nulon, who use Alkylated Naphthalene mixes in their high end blends (and even as little as 5% AN in a mix outperforms straight Group4; it's rather amazing).
For most people following recommended service intervals, Group3 based Synthetics are pretty decent. A Used Oil Analysis will show you if the oil you're currently using is sufficiently protecting your engine, or if you should change.
I can't remember which decade it was, nor the brand/product that I came across @ a show/stand. The sale person gave me 2 pieces of plastic & asked that I rub them together as-hard-as-I-can & claim that their product contain this property & hence provide superior engine protection.
Marketing-dept perceive the public to gullible…snake-oil marketing exist & from reading comments @ OzBargain, there're still believers: including those who reference 'Bob is the Oil Guy', those who ask for 'oil-analysis' to support their belief etc🤔

Thats a strange test for them to ask you to do, because not many car-guys I know is choosing an oil based on how well it prevents friction during a catastrophic pump\film failure…. What an odd sales person you met.
It's one of the PREMIUM-brand oil I look for, if on sales.
I tested their 0W-20 & 5W-30, 5+ yrs ago & had no problem.
