Is Cyber Monday a Thing Here?

So all the hype has been for Black Friday. But I notice that laptop retailers like Officeworks and Harvey Normans et al haven't been promoting Cyber Monday at all, which I thought was supposed to be the big tech sale day.

Is it really a thing in Australia?

I know sale seasons haven't been that good over the last couple of years, for reasons, but I was kinda hoping the Black Friday deals would have been better. The only real big discounts were things so expensive that they're still too expensive 25% off, or its stuff that they cant sell because it hasn't been a stellar year for quality control in manufacturing.
And I know Office Works bumped up the prices of their Nitro Vs about a month ago because I was looking into getting one but thought I'd wait to see if they drop for the famous Black Friday sale, so I was checking in on the listing. But they went up, then back down "on sale" for about the same price.(And can someone explain why 2 year old Asus Tuff 2050s seem to be going up in price? Are they fine wine of budget gaming?)

The thing is, I need to get a new laptop for my kid. I was thinking of budget gaming, or at least a good regular laptop with decent iGPU for Minecraft for about $1000 max, but less if I can.

So I'm now thinking I just bite the bullet and get what non-sale sale price I can get before they all go up $200.
Unless its worth waiting out for some kind of Cyber Monday miracle? Or is this as good as it gets?

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

Yes Cyber Monday is a thing. It is generally an excuse for extended Black Friday deals to get rid of stock that still hasn't sold.

Price jacked discounts will still continue until Monday.

Think ABC This is Money broadcast talked about the economics of Black Friday. It is just to sell you stuff the retailers want to sell and make the most money.

Think about all the phone deals. There was the one Edge 50 Neo for $200 on ebay with like 10 units. Moto G85 nothing much. Favorite G54 is $246 which the normal price is like $288. Disappeared at $246 when Amazon had their 20% cash back on everything.

  • Some people are calling it White Monday.

    • Like who?

        Well JIMB0 for starters…..

      • I saw a post on facebook. They also said the deals can be better making it feel like they got robbed on Friday. There was also talk of an ajian yellow mid-week sale.

I'll confirm yae or nae late tomorrow.

  • Xmas/Boxing day sales tend to be bigger than black friday (although with fewer options). I'd say wait until next month.

  • more like cyber bum day.

some Black Friday sales ended on Friday. 😂
    terrible.

    • half the good "black friday" sales were over by tuesday last week. Serves me for waiting.

      • Definite learning for next year … All the retailers are competing for the spend so it basically becomes Black November as they push earlier and earlier.

      • yeah I mean aren’t they supposed to start on Friday?! 🥴

  • Seems it's not a thing :D

I pulled the trigger on these, both of which have been this price for a couple of weeks (missed the Steam gift card on the Eva promo but still a great deal I think).

Starting my setup from scratch, but hoping this somewhat future proofs me.
