    Emby Premiere Is better

  • Neither Plex nor Emby are open source anyway. Waiting for JellyFin to eventually overtake them both

The waiting room is down the hallway, third door to your left.

Years ago I stated using Plex. Was good, so good I bought lifetime subscription. Not that I needed the subscription, I saw no added benefit for my use-case, but giving them some income for their effort felt right. It's been great for my situation, so I rewarded their work.

Have not had any problems that have made me look to alternatives like jellyfin etc

    • Jellyfin will take 10 years to catch up to Plex today which means you'll need to assume Plex adds literally nothing in the next 10 years.

I've been a plex-pass lifetime member for 5 years. I do like the product.
Despite your comment likely being in jest "assume Plex adds literally nothing in the next 10 years.", unfortunately there haven't any significant features in the last few years - unless you count free or ad-supported content from other sources not on your server.

        • I fully agree that Plex is adding a bunch of junk that nobody wants, but I think you are also completely missing major features that are the best in its class as well.

          Plex Skip Intro - 2020
          PlexAmp - 2020
          Watchlist - 2022
          Plex Credits skip - 2023
          PlexPhotos - 2024

Jellyfin can't do any of that (besides some dodgy hacks like for Skip Intro. There's a lot more smaller features that Plex has that Jellyfin doesn't.

Considering Jellyfin are at least 5 years behind today and are showing no signs of speeding up development, the only way I see the masses moving to Jellyfin are if/when Plex makes a bad change in the product due to their investors wanting to milk users.

Jellyfin also seems like it will always have limited app support for devices which is an issue if you share with friends/family.

        • Crowd sourced intro and credit detection has been developed and optimized as a significant feature. Additionally add detection in recorded content.

  • Infuse for appletv though?

      What about it?

      • a huge rip-off. If you have that much media of your own just use Plex or Emby - either choice is better and cheaper with lifetime.
Remember Infuse will only be lifetime until the next major version.

        • Transcoding and subtitling though.

          The whole ecosystem is confusing.

        • I too hate Infuse. Overpriced for how slow their devs are to implement features.

  • Still available. Not expired yet.

    • I guess because it's still Friday in the USA. Ozbargs doesn't have a "this deal expires in a different timezone" button.
