  • So, how much is same day cancellation, couldn't find it quickly in the T&C for the $1200 voucher…

    EDIT: appears to be:
    Maximum Voucher Repayment Fee $800

    So assuming it's

    Samsung Galaxy S24 5G 256GB $1387 - $1200 = $187 + $800 = $987…. then possibly $89 for the first month if you don't cancel straight away?

    • +4

Still $766.67 + $89 (unless you can get them to refund that portion via chat)

This deal is really no better than what we’ve seen throughout the year for those who plan to cancel

      • Would the 1200 cover the full cost of a Samsung S24? I seem to remember the Google pixel was covered by voucher even though the outright prive was higher

      • Is there any reason I can't sign up for three or four new SIMS and then cancel?

    • Yes but it will pro-rata 23/24 of the $800 Max repayment fee if you have to pay the first month. If they waive the first month, I would gather you pay the full 800.

      • +1

I've had the first month waived and only paid the pro-rata'd $766.67. Experiences will vary depending who you get on Telstra chat.

        • @bokchewy can I ask when you got the first month refunded? Was it just last week, or from a previous deal? I was successful getting it waived the first time I did it a few months ago but not having any luck this time. I've talked to 3 agents who all said the same thing. Wondering if they've changed the rules

          • @discountdiva: Previous deal

          • @discountdiva: Wait for the transaction to clear (if it's still pending) and then reach out to Telstra support.

I tried my luck today for the third time and was successful. I mentioned, I didn't use your services and canceled the next day without using it. You must have a grace period for service cancellation; please check if you can do something about the refund.

And $99 was reversed without any questions.

            • @BonusOffer: the $99 payment comes from jbhifi post paid and not telstra right? (at least thats what mine says).
So whys telstra the ones refunding it haha

            • @BonusOffer: I'll wait a couple days and try again, I signed up on Friday so could still be pending.. Fingers crossed, although I've kinda lost hope after the third one lol. Thanks for the tip

              • @discountdiva: I just jumped on online chat.
First person I got, i asked for a refund because i never used the service.

"No problem let me process this refund for you".

                ummm wot…wasnt expecting that

                • @amityaaron: @amityaaron
Lucky you! I had the same experience the first time around but they really won’t budge this time.

When did you sign up and cancel if you don’t mind sharing?

                  • @discountdiva: I bought on the Saturday (i got the 1100 voucher, missed the 1200).

at about 5pm i jumped onto online chat and cancelled the service.
Person I spoke to said i couldnt get a refund for the 89.

The following monday, I jumped onto chat and asked for a refund - first person i spoke to said sure, no problem.

89 was back in my account later in the week.

                    • @amityaaron: Good on ya! I did get the 1200 voucher so I guess that’s a win. I’ve had enough of the Telstra agents and I’m sure they’ve had enough of me too lmao

  • Best so far !

  • So $400 profit I cancelled immediately?

    • Most likely 766.67 + 89 equals total cost. I believe having the first months fee waived is getting harder to do. So about 344.33 gain.

  • +1

I ported out of Telstra around 2 weeks ago from the last time they ran this, do you think I will have any trouble trying to get this deal? I intend to keep the plan.

    • I'd like to know this too

    • +1

When they open your telstra account they’ll be able to see you ported out less than a month ago.

      • Is this mean we can’t go back to this offer?
I was with Boost and I am in Optus from last 3 weeks

      • T&C's don't mention anything about it in this particular deal. Does that rule still apply?

      • Ah righto, so they would likely deny the gift card but proceed with the $89 plan? Might just have to wait a bit longer and pick up a lower deal later on.

        • +1

They would tell you upfront probably.

    • You'll still be eligible. If you're worried, you can always wait until boxing day.

      • Yeah I think I’ll just wait, thank you!

    • So I just tried to take advantage of this, but because my number is with Telstra, they can't 'port' me into JB HiFi (because they use Telstra), so apparently I don't qualify.
Any confirm if this is correct?

PS> I want to keep my number because I've had it for 20+ years and it's a premium number for many ways.

      • Can't you port your number to Optus or Vodafone prepaid first, then port to JB?

        • Yes, but there needs to be some period of time (can't remember if it's 20 or 30 days) with another provider before you can port back in to get the deal.

  • So, how often do people cancel early and do it again when something similar like this happens again, or do you just get blacklisted so you can't fully abuse the system?

  • i got this deal two years ago along with the $10 off a month discount

    my contract has expired

can i sign up again to get the gift card? or do i have to port away? are there other deals perhaps with optus i can consider that come with a gift card?

    • Wondering if you were able to share the data eith things like laptops and google tv, etc?

      • yes 100% through my iphone i can share data (i.e browse web, watch prime video etc)

        • Tried it last night.

Was so much better than the Motel wifi.

          No lags even using vpn

    • Port away, unless you're after a new number.

      • how long do you have to be 'ported' away from Telstra for before you can be eligible for this deal?

        • +2

30 days, you could try less and not mention it. But from memory it does flag.

          • @Spooke512: There wasn't any obvious flag when I've done it and I've done this many times in the past.
I ported out from a JBHIFI plan on 25/12, it processed on boxing day 26/12 and signed up on the 27/12 for the $89/24 month plan without issues.
I used the same account and the guy was able to still lookup my account by my current mobile number in the system.

I watched the screen as he processed everything. The mobile number was with optus, so had to provide all the usual codes (for email/sms) etc a few times, but all processed fine.

There is nothing in the T&C or CIS stating it needs to be 28 days etc.
Whole process took less than 10 mintues.

        • thanks

      • will ports away, cheers, am looking at optus hardly normal deals

  • Wonder if the $1400 for 99/month will come around? Should I hold?

    • Also waiting for this exact deal!

    • +1

To cancel it to have higher profit?

    • Yesterday it was $1100, today it is $1200 and it expires today. So a good chance that tomorrow we may get a better deal than this.

      • Earlier this year as in January they had $1700 off the s23 ultra and you could return the phone and get a $1700 gift card as a refund. With the s25 coming out in January i think we will see this sort of deal again.

        • Yes. I did use that offer to buy Pixel 9XL actually

        • Can you tell me where you saw that deal? I just tried to look at s23 Ultra deals but couldn't find one in Jan that covers what you spoke about

    • +1

Update: I caved and got it

      • What phone did you end up buying?

  • Damn i just got this at 99$ - any one have ideas on how i can ask for the 10$ discount?

  • And I just purchased the plan yesterday with 1100/89…

    • yep and it was advertised with an expiry date of 2/12, despite the website saying 1 day only. i'm seeing if anything can be done.. feel misled.

  • +3

my plan from 2yrs ago will expire end of next month, what's the best thing to do to get this deal today? Sign up a new number and merge later? Indent to keep my existing number and the new plan. Thanks.

    • Also looking for the answer to this (or even, minimum time to port out/back in).

  • Can you sign up with a new number? My son has an existing prepaid plan that we've already paid for and want to keep using.

    • I'm keen to know if this still works too. Last time I had 14 days left on my current contract. I was able to start a new service with new number, then when my old contact finished transfer my number across to new conttact.

I had heard this was no longer possible though.

    • Yes, new number works.

  • Is this any good for a nomad in Australia?

Could this be utilised to stream movies through something like a google tv or fire stick?

I only would likely need 100gb for this but the bonus dta at this price seems a good time for me to use the voucher to upgrade my existing phone.

Anyone know if this would be possible?

    • +1

Yes. You will need any kind of cellular hotspot device, either a phone or a standalone cellular hotspot. Then you just connect to it like a normal wifi network and use services like netflix/binge etc on the google tv/firestick

      • Appreciated. Cheerd

  • +1

Can anyone confirm this method still works and what the final price came to?

  • +3

I always wonder if I get 3 numbers and cancel straight away. I will make somewhere about $1100-$1200 profit with $3600 in JB Gift cards

I am looking at getting Pixel 9 pro xl and 9th gen ipad = ~$2000

What do I use $1600 for then? Ideas?

    • +4

wow..down vote. I am getting punished for being true OZb!

thanks for reading the comment though!

      • Dont need to wonder, did exactly that for me and my SO. Winning

    • Sell it or wait for any good deal on JB.

  • good for those who use (or say they use) phone for work - you make a profit after tax deduction + free plan for 2 years

  • If you already have $20 JB hi fi mobile data plan , can you still get this deal?

  • Can the data sharing included in the plan be shared with an existing Telstra (not JB) mobile plan or data plan SIM under the same account number? Thanks

    • Unfortunately, only with other JB plans. Not telstra.

  • btw - do these gift card expire?

    • +1

      No expiry.

  • Are you guys factoring in the costs of paying for another mobile plan too? If we just stayed on this plan for 2 years we save another 24 months of another compamys plans ie 20 a month is another 240 saved? which means this plan is really 40 a month or so. plus when you pay a bill you get telstra points which was enough to get me a 90 buck jbl clip 5 and some other tidbits..

  • Does cancelling the phone plan affect credit score?

    • Getting the plan affects your score because it will be marked as an enquiry. That is why people shouldn’t keep doing this thinking how clever they are making a profit.

      • I understand for the first intial enquiry but I mean for closing the contract is that another hit?

        • +1

No, closing the account does not affect your score as the idea is not to have a liability.

  • Does JB HIFI mobile have the apple watch plans? Or is this exclusive to telstra?

  • Good deal. Previously it was great when it also accumulated Telstra points.

  • Gift card can be used in anything right? Potentially even priced matched items?

  • +1

If you are interested in a Pixel - the Good Guys has a $1300 voucher for the Pixel XL for $89 and a $800 cancellation fee.

    https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/mobile-and-broadband-plans#

    • 1300$ off the discounted price which is currently 400$ off? Or the 400$ black friday discount does not apply with that offer? Anyone knows?

      • $1300 off on the already discounted price.

    • +1

And jbhifi $1350 off for pixel 9 pro at JB?

      https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/google-pixel-9-pro-5g-128…

Get $1350 off a Google Pixel 9 Pro Phone◊ when you switch your number to JB HI-FI Mobile on a $89 plan over 24 months#. Plan reverts to $99 per month after 24 Months.
      - $89 per month plan over 24 months. Plan reverts to $99 per month after 24 Months.

  • A good deal! I bought at $1100 yesterday :(

  • Is the cancellation fee calculated on $800 or on $1200?

    JB Hi-Fi website (https://www.jbhifi.com.au/pages/upfront-mobile-plans) says:

The $1200 JB Hi-Fi Gift Card will replace the value of the Voucher stated in the Critical Information Summary. If you cancel or move to a lower cost/different plan then you must pay a Voucher Repayment Fee to Telstra pro-rated against the remaining months of your plan’s minimum term.

      • +1

Thanks. Got it - so $1200 replaces the original voucher value, but not the max voucher repayment fee.

        • I'm so confused, so if I cancel straight away I have to pay 800$ plus 1 month for the plan? Making the gain roughly 300$? 1200-800-89= 311$ discount?

          • +1

@SlanZ: Yes. The GC repayment is pro-rata so it’s actually $766.67.

            • +1

@Maths Debater: Canceled within 1 hour of purchase. $766.67 charged to card that was used to sign up to the plan.
              ✨👍✨

  • Slimy JB trying to falsely advertise this as a “Black Friday” Deal when it’s always $89/m with a $1200 GC 😂

  • Managed to get this offer late last evening.

  • Can I use the voucher on anything else other than phones? I need a BYOD for mi kid starting highschool next year😭

  • Can I pay the difference with Afterpay? I.e. Samsung Galaxy S24 5G 256GB $1787 - $1200 = $587 through afterpay in store?

Trying to use my partner's $30 off first afterpay order discount to squeeze just a bit more from the deal
