My girlfriend subscribed to a JB / Telstra plan 4+ years ago. She didn't renew. Do you know if after a while they consider you as "new customer" again like some brands do? She'd be interested in this (probs waiting tomorrow to see if it's back up to $1,200), but unsure she's eligible.

        • +2

If she is currently with Telstra/Boost/Belong shes will not receive a GC

          • -1

@ashumz: She subscribed to a similar deal as this one a few years ago, but hasn't been with them for a while now.

            • @Sebajun: New customer, ive done port out and back in same day and got it but they normally say 30 days for new customer

  • Can someone link me to a detailed comment or explain how this hack works again

  • +2

This is worse than the $99/month + $1200 gift card if you are planning to cancel straight away

    • Foe those planning to cancel straight away, it doesnt matter if they reduce the monthly plan as the ETC would always be $800

      • +2

Exactly, but you’re only getting an $1100 gift card, not a $1200 one

  • +4

    Hold….. Hold….

    • Will do.

    • Holding the line for dear life, need a juicier deal

  • If this is the best that they can do for BF then it is a disappointment

    • It is only for today.
I am hoping something better comes in.

  • Will this work for porting in from telstra prepaid?

    • I don’t think it will work.
You may have to port it out from Telstra and try this.

  • Can i port out and in?

    • Just get a new number if your planning to cancel straight away

      • No, i want to keep it :(

        • your cancelling the new number, you don't touch your existing one.

          • @pket: I mean i dont need to cancel it, i just want to keep the contract. I am already with telstra, can i port out and in again for the gift card? Lol

  • Does this link to all phones or only select ones?
I'm trying to do the maths on a iPhone 16 Pro 256 ($1997) but can't quite get my head around it

  • Just in case anyone is not aware, telstra has an issue with quite a few of Westfields around , TLDR you will not have mobile data connection when you walk in certain Westfield

I immediately fell victim after signing up for Telstra and lost data connection in Westfield Hornsby.

Below is more detail discussion from whirlpool.

    https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/9pxj4j0v

    • Went to pazza Westfield once per year and no signal in toilet. BF thot I got flushed away in the pipe.

      • It's totally different symptom.

Toilet is generally weak for reception in a lot of places, but for my case in Hornsby Westfield, regardless I walk in coles, food court, car park, any corner within the Westfield, phone signal shows full bars and phone call is fine BUT nothing loads if it requires data, including commbank app for payment (can't even bloody sign in the app).

Wife signed up for telstra jb deal a yr ago and was immediately impacted, I thought it might be issue of her phone, so I have to do all commbank app payment since, coz I can use data from amaysim. 2 months ago I ported in the same jb telstra deal, now we have to carry a physical card to pay anything (or sign into Westfield free wifi).

Just sharing my real life experience in case it might impact anyone for the same reason.

        • poor reception in shopping centre is by design. they want you to use their free wifi so they can track everything you do in the shopping centre

          • @perocaca: but then why telstra only? carriers under vodafone and optus are fine.

    • +1

Yes, even at the apple shop in Hornsby, there was no signal with boost.

  • It works out to be $43.17 a month.

I dont need 300GB a month so a $79 or $59 plan with a good voucher would be better!

JB: can you beat this for Black Friday?

  • +2

As expected, drop it before BF and bring it back to $1200 on BF.

    • Or they troll everyone and make it $850

    • Yeah, and call it a “Black Friday Blitz”.

  • +1

Do we really think they'll do 89/1200 again? I'm willing to hold if people are pretty confident, but I've been waiting for this so I'm tempted…

    • I'm really mad at myself for buying it yesterday…

  • used to be $89/$1200

  • Has anyone had any success moving their existing Telstra number across AFTER signup, in recent years?

  • In the terms it mentiones to pay back outstanding vouchers for cancellation, does it mean I need to give back all?

    • +1

      Nope, only $766 (roughly).

      Did it yesterday :)

      • Do you need to pay the first month fee?

        • +1

Yep, although live chat confirmed that it would be refunded. Will check again in a couple days to make sure they have

      • so you got $300 for free?

      • Which monthly plan did you signup for?

  • +3

Just signed up today for $89 for $1200 voucher. They had forgot to change the gift card amount and honoured it.

    • Which store?

      • +2

        Top Ryde

  • Does anyone know if these plans still support Telstra one number for cellular Apple Watch?

    • +1

They do. Extra $5 a month..confirmed via chat on the app yesterday.

  • Ah I'm 1/2hr from a nearby shop and can't make it today, how often do they run deals like this? Thinking of churning from Voda for my home internet.

    • I was in one of the store. this offer actually ends 2rd/Dec, you have plenty of time. I would actually wait for $89/Mth, 1200 credit deal to come.

      • You mean the 89/1100? It mentions today is the last day for it on the website, so I am hoping tomorrow it will be a slightly better deal

        • Yeah that’s what I thought. Will see what they offer tomorrow.

      • Thanks. Might do that. I need to work out if it’s better than my current Voda 4G first but I might just do the OzB method and buy now, decide later. If no good, cancel it and get $800 back.

  • +1

I was told by JB staff tonight that tmrw will be $89 plan with 1200gc as the one day only Black Friday deal.

  • This deal is back, anyone knows what the cancellation fee is with Telstra on the $89 plan
