  • Worth the upgrade over a Samsung Q950T? Very tempted.

  • Ughh just got 930D last month. Wanted the 120hz passthrough but stock was low everywhere.

    • Same. I would have gone the 990D at this price but it wasn't on sale then and the 930D was at a great price. Could always try returning under the 100 day guarantee currently being offered.
      https://www.samsung.com/au/mbg/

    • The 930D should have 120hz pass through if you have the newest firmware installed

      • I thought i read its a hardware thing not software limitation. Tho i havnt tested it

  • does not post to victoria?

    • Yeah strange I just had a look and it won't post to Melbourne inner suburbs

How are these just for music listening? Not intending to watch movies at all

    • +8

I got one recently. It's good for music. But Atmos/spacial audio for music is mostly a gimmick IMO. These soundbars are designed for movies and 5.1 audio TV. For music alone you would be better served with a set of nice bookshelf speakers with a sub.

    • +1

Apparently surprisingly good (I'm yet to try it though) - https://www.rtings.com/soundbar/reviews/samsung/hw-q990d

    • As @Falbium it's ok for music, but definitely made for movies, especially with Atmos. For music, try JBL, Bose, Sonos or Yamaha.

    • +2

Hmm, i think atmos tracks sound pretty good on these , but theres not really a lot of those. otherwise the subwoofer gives a full sound but the bar alone isnt that great for pure music.

If you looking for small hifi setup, the denon m41 is at Amazon for $695 at the moment. Sells locally at hi fi stores for around a grand. I think these systems have one of the best sound quality to price ratios around.

Item does not post to you. I'm in Sydney Metro.

    • +2

      Same. Melbourne Metro

    • Ships to me in Perth but I already have one, paid $1154, not worth returning and setting up again for $100 although I was tempted

    • Weird, they're located in Sydney.

    • Same issue. Tried various old addresses around Sydney.

    • Same - Sydney metro. Shame, good price.

  • This vs Arc + Sub + 2 Era 300s, aside from just the cost difference?

    • +2

Sonos in my experience. Had the 990A.
The sound stage seemed wider for sonos and more immersive. I sometimes don't know which speaker the sound direction is coming from.
If cost is a factor tho, I'll choose Samsung.

    • I have Samsung 930d , havent heard sonos , but all reviews suggest full sonos combo with sub and rears is undoubtedly better.

One negative, Sonos doesnt support DTS:X , but that’s usually only an issue if you have blu-ray discs .

Otherwise, If you’ve got the money, go the sonos.

    • +1

If you have kids who will use it, abuse it, in a common area, and you want some quality movies Q990D.
If you are an audiophile, have a dedicated theatre, money to burn - Sonos going to be the pick. Listened to both in-store, and I'd say there's a small noteable difference in quality (particularly bass), but a sizeable difference in price.
Q990D is great value set up.

    • Sonos is better for sure.

However top of the line soundbar systems from other manufacturers (like Samsung and Sony) is absolutely not a 1/4 of experience with 1/4 of price. It’s more like you’re paying 3x more to Sonos for less than 1/4 of quality improvements.

  • The most gutted soundbar on the market, what's the point of having a Q930D model lol.

  • -2

    Sonos better for music

    • +1

Is it worth the 2x price premium?

      • Arc + sub mini is sitting around $1400-1500 at the moment with sales

  • +1

Couldn’t get the either code to work so saved a grand!

  • Was thinking to get this one instead due to budget https://www.appliancecentral.com.au/hw-q930dxy-samsung-q-ser…

I only need it for tv shows and watching sports and the news. Not too much into movies and gaming. Good enough?

    • Pretty good. I say go for it. Honestly, better to pocket the extra $300 unless you want to splurge.

      $748 on ebay.

    • +1

Probably more than needed. Could give it a try for 100 days

      • Items purchased from a Retailer’s Online Store will follow their respective Online Returns Process.

      • Thanks for that. I had no idea it existed.

  • Odd.

Victorian addresses are not eligible for shipping.

  • +2

Not eligible for shipping via Ebay, but messaged Appliances Online (direct store) and they were able to get it down to special price.
    Even bypassed needing Ebay+!

    • Thanks. I did this, too. Although currently out of stock, so est delivery is January.

      • Owch - but not bad; you have price protection if it drops over the next few weeks including boxing day!
I got mine coming in the next hour (South-West Sydney); I must have just beat the rush!

    • I just did that but they wouldn't budge. How did you do it?

      • I did this also via the chat. Expected Jan delivery.

      • +1

Try again in an hour hope you get someone else - I was polite, and mentioned I wasn't having luck on their Ebay store with some bug for postal, but their main site was working. Please match to Ebay+, $100 off. They put it to $1054 delivered - may even be get them down to $1049 now - extra $5 for a coffee!

        • +1

          Thanks @Oipjo!

  • I got it for $1129 at jb with a 5 year warranty. Considering it only comes with 1, I’d say a good deal.

The sound is fantastic! You won’t be disappointed:)

    • How did you get 5 year warranty out of it for that price?

      • +1

I went into the store, I got them to price match powerland.
The associate literally said “I was able to drop the price more and add a warranty on it for you”

When I asked can I get the lower price without the warranty he said no, he couldn’t do that but was happy to do the 5 year warranty. In the end I think the peace of mind is even better for that price.
The one time I actually didn’t haggle haha and worked out!

        • Damn not bad! I had powerland matched. Shipping included so 1220 but not offered warranty!

  • Price should be $1049

  • It won't ship to Adelaide now?!?

  • I have a q950a.. awesome, love it, need to upgrade?

  • +1

The ebay listing has since dropped in price to $1128, with the SNSM11 bringing it further down to $1028. AppliancesOnline chat matched and I was able to buy at that price, even though the ebay listing is now out of stock (and couldn't get it when in stock anyway due to above-mentioned delivery restrictions).

  • Anyone else been informed that your order is being delivered halfway through Jan? Extremely disappointed at this stage especially given ETA was mid Dec
