        • Downloaded it today, such a better platform - feels like the good old days of twitter before the nutjobs got a hold of it

        • -1

Why is it such a surprise? If an app started with a zero base, ofcourse it going to get downloaded a whole lot more. The left lunatics need to find a new space to play victims of the system, operession, racism, lgbtq+, gender eurphoria, fluidity - pick your poison. I am glad they are leaving X, leave it for adults.

    • -2

Blue sky is just an echo chamber of idiots

    • Lol you guys are getting desperate with this.

X won't even come close to dying within a year.

  • -5

Elon musk is the greatest capitalist of all time. Australia wish they could have a son like Elon walks out of Australia and into the world. Instead they’ve got Rupert Murdoch

  • +5

    Free speech be expensive

  • +3

    Elon should be paying us

    • +3

He does if you get enough impressions on your tweets

  • The only unbiased media platform

  • +7

Bluesky is free.. both monetarily and of Elon-stans.

    • +1

It’s also a cringe left wing echo chamber that will be void of users within 18 months

      • +4

BlueSky is a completely open, free-speech platform where anyone can setup their own server, and anyone can post what they want, not controlled by a billionaire who wants to censor what you say.

Vs Twitter which has become a right-wing US politics platform, where Elon Musk's political tweets appear on everyone's feeds. And he deletes everything that he dislikes.

I can't view Twitter anymore, its all US politics - Who needs that crap?

Australia, please don't become the US cesspool of corrupt politics.

        • +1

So you liked twitter when it was run by left wing nut jobs?

          • +1

@Danstar: @Danstar Here in Australia we're pretty moderate, lefties and righties are still mates.

Don't get brainwashed into that US politics BS, and don't let Australia follow the US down the drain.

Just delete your Twitter account, you don't need all those idiot Americans rotting your brain and making you angry all the time.

Is it worth putting all your energy into hate? You'll end up isolating every one important to you.

I had a friend who's gone down this right-wing rabbit hole over the past ten years, poor guy has lost his wife and all his friends. I've tried to reach out to him a few times, but he can't help it, he just starts ranting about US politics all the time. Its sad, he used to be a really nice guy.

            • @murdercluck: You avoided my question nicely ;)

I don’t use twitter, thanks for your concern though.

I’m surprised you didn’t talk up this blue sky thing. I’ve seen you mention it numerous times in this post, which to be honest I’ve never heard of before

              • @Danstar: @Danstar I was just a bit concerned about you - You said that Twitter was run by left-wing nut jobs.

I don't think anyone thinks that is true unless you've gone a fair way down that right-wing rabbit hole a fair way.

My anti-vax, conspiracy friend was saying this kind of stuff before he ended up driving everyone away from him.

He also said that all media organisations except Fox News, Infowars are "run by left-wing nut-jobs".

Honestly normal Aussies don't say this kind of stuff - Its just US garbage propaganda, normal Aussies hate this kind of talk and start avoiding people that talk like this.

                • @murdercluck:

Honestly normal Aussies don't say this kind of stuff - Its just US garbage propaganda, normal Aussies hate this kind of talk and start avoiding people that talk like this.

Nice no true scotsman fallacy mate.

                  • @SvcKpc: That's the reality of life in Australia, for good or bad. Aussies don't want to become a mini-America, are scared of the mess of hatred over there - Children hating parents, parents disavowing children, everyone hating each other.

I was in the shops last weekend and someone had struck up a conversation over a shirt or something, and somehow brought up Elon Musk / US politics and started ranting.

Everyone started moving well away from this person, and the poor dude that he was talking to kept trying to make excuses to get away saying really obvious stuff, like "I wouldn't know about any of that", but the ranting guy kept just going on and on. It was super painful.

I've never seen a shop room clear out so quickly or effectively, it was like a fire alarm went off. No-one would look anywhere near the guy out of fear of making eye-contact.

Aussies treat people like this as if they've got a disease, and try to keep well away.

            • @murdercluck: What exactly is right wing? I am genuinely curious because I think these terms have lost their meaning. For the left, anyone who disagrees is far right and vice versa. Extreme left are seeking utopia in an imperfect world inhabited by imperfect people while actual far right are fascists in the making. Between stupidity i.e. far left and hate (far right) and hate for stupidity, the hate wins.

              • @dealsucker: Yep agree completely. Whenever inequality is rising, and the right or left moves too far in one direction, the other extreme springs up to counter and you end up plunging the country (or world) into war and chaos.

You'd think that we'd have learnt the lessons of WW2.

Thankfully in Australia we've got fairly moderate/mainstream political parties, and mandatory & preferential voting makes it difficult for the extreme candidates to get a foothold.

        • +1

          BlueSky
          free-speech platform

          Nah, it's not.
As with all these nonsense federated platforms, they are all full of convoluted instance blocking and the vast majority of instances do not support free speech.

        • And X's previous owner was not a billionaire? What is the issue with billionaires if they have added value and created wealth?

      • It just seems that way because all the (profanity) ar still on Xitter.

    • +2

Bluesky is also an echochamber of hard-left. Opposite side of the same coin. Not interested, sorry mate.

  • +1

    What is that pungent musk?

    • -2

Something that you would never be - you would not land a rocket, create a new electric car company, give new life to quadriplegics via neuralink amongst other things.

      • A billionaire with erratic conspiratorial tweets, who treats people with his bulling daemon mode. Multiple SEC violations, exaggerated claims, neuralink animal testing with a side of transactional, self interested politics..

I for one, want a world with less concentration of wealth and power and a society that treats the vulnerable with compassion. There's enough resources to go around without Musk. This man is hideous. We don't need billionaire bullies to progress society.

  • +4

    the grok 2 is amazing

    • Grok 3 is coming soon.

  • +5

Upvoting until someone can find a better price for X premium, instead of people downvoting for political reasons.

    • The world needs more people like you.

    • Paying for a service and features that use to be free is a deal now? 🤪

  • Look up AeroWitter to get around ads on X

  • +4

I fail to understand how is a "deal". checkmark used to be free. I don't have enough time to get into everything else that is wrong.

    • +4

You fail to understand the subscription is more than a checkmark

      • +3

You failed to understand I also said " I don't have enough time to get into everything else that is wrong", meaning there was more then the checkmark.

Paying to reduce ads is a joke, a not so funny joke.

        • Why is it a joke?

          • +1

@Mike Nolan: The early days of the internet was going to be pay to use. if you require people to pay to use the internet (excluding ISP) then you limit access therefore it became ad supported so the internet was free to everyone. In my option if you pay for a subscription then there should be no ads.

  • +2

So Bluesky and possibly under 16yo ban must be working…

  • +5

Paying for Twitter - hahahahahahahah yeah, sure.

  • +3

    This or 4chan?

    • Both.

  • +3

    People pay for X[hitter]?

  • +5

what does the 88 stand for in your name op?

    • +1

Lol. The ADL been in your ear?

  • +9

Price is a ripoff in the first place, it's not a good deal

removing ads doesnt' really help when the feed is full of bot spam and russian propaganda

rightwing shit amplified by the algorithm (confirmed by leaks)

  • +2

i love how all the snowflakes are leaving and boy are they making bulk reports on whatever platform they now use.

    • +3

The right wingers are finally leaving?

  • +6

I use an extension to automatically block blue checks. Highly recommend this - there are very few people worth listening to who would pay $10+/month for Twitter.

  • +1

    I’m seeing $117/year for Premium and $215/year for Premium+

    Anyone else?

    • same to me, how come 😂

    • Same with me on the App. Tried that web interface and it was $81 there.

  • -1

Even though i generally vote left, was left most of my life except last several years where i am more of a swing vote although alas probably bit more left than right but ideally independant. . But if people actually think mainstream media these days is unbiased and X is the biased one, they really need to do more research and look a lot closer.

    • +1

Stop trying to masquerade as some sort of pretend centrist.

X is a partisan platform where it's owner, Elon, endorsed Trump's campaign unabashedly and allows far-right conspiracy to be amplified, if not directly endorsed/reposted by himself.

You can take your pick of conspiracy. The debunked Dominion voting conspiracy? The mass murderer's Nazism being a "planted psyop"? Or how about the "Pizzagate" conspiracy theory where high-ranking Democrats were running a pedophile ring?

      • Fifty cents has been added to your social credit score.

      • -1

Good to know that you know me better than I know myself. Only people like this prove my point so well and push all the sane people to the other side..

        • +1

You’re not even going to bother defending your inane “X isn’t biased” take anymore? Fair enough, it was pretty embarrassing.

Bold of you to assume that I’m on “the other side” because I’m almost certain I’m more of a reactionary and right-winger than you are.

          • -2

@Tight Tim: Did I say X is biased or unbiased? Perhaps learn to comprehend whats written than creating your own narrative. Theres always loopy loonies on here these days.

            • +1

@lonewolf: Yes. Are you seriously going to pretend that you didn't imply as much? The irony in you to suggest that the deficit in comprehension sits with me is palpable.

"But if people actually think … X is the biased one, they really need to do more research and look a lot closer"

Funny how people of your ilk always tell other people to do research for you instead of providing your own. When you assert nonsense without evidence, it can be swiftly dismissed without the need for counter-evidence.

Besides, Elon isn't slumming around on OzB, he isn't going to notice you attempting to lick the leather off of his boots.

              • -2

@Tight Tim: Here we go again. People with lack of comprehension trying to create their own narratives. What happened to their brain cells..

  • +5

Came here solely for the comments. Didn't disappoint.

  • +8

Wasn’t it previous free. What a scam of a “deal”

    • No, X Premium was never free

  • +6

I logged into my Twitter account for the first time in a few weeks yesterday. My notifications showed my last eight interactions were all female spam bots following me.

It's incredible how much worse Musk has made that website just on that level (disregarding the clear political bias from the ownership and the fact you have to pay or your comments won't get seen) - and people still loudly argue that it's better than it's ever been.

  • +5

Bluesky is free with better features. Bad deal.

  • So much MDS in the comments

  • +1

Grok 2 is great value at this price

  • +4

    Leon panicking

  • +2

There’s so much misinformation on X nowadays that they should actually PAY you for wasting your time reading all the BS

    • -2

It has the best fact checking of any media source, whether social media or legacy media.

      • +1

        Who told you? Elon? 🤔

        • The algorithm is open source, you can see it yourself, its community driven and balances votes based on how people vote previously (controlling for the inherent biases different people have). I dont see how you can get any more unbiased than that, most fact checking is inherently biased since someone/s are in control, the decentralised nature of the X fact checking avoids this and the control for bias makes it difficult to manipulate. Even Musk or official X accounts get caught out by community notes at times, no one is immune.

  • Yuck! That's yucky!

  • +1

why its 116 AUD to me, weird

    • Same with me on the App. Tried that web interface and it was $81 there.

  • -1

    STFU Elon and GFY
what a (profanity), complaining about free speech, but only if it goes it his way of thinking lol

  • -2

Do not let Elon/USA believe that they can make money off charging people to participate in their state media / propaganda.

  • The owner is evil

    • -1

Sure buddy. Just keep pretending you're not mad because he's not censoring things you don't like.

      • I’m not the one screaming free speech, then turning around and censoring on my own platform.

    • -2

Anyone who disagrees with you is evil? Cant see it any other way. Why are you guys so insufferable?

    • -2
