Bowden's Own The Big Green Sucker Drying Towel $25 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Repco

151

Cheapest it has been since last year. Don't think it will go below this price anymore.
Bought one myself.

Specs:

Super absorbent microfibre towel that literally sucks water into its fibres, so you can dry in half the time.
Ultra soft and thick fibres minimise any chance of dirt or grit micro-scratching your paint when drying.
Bright green colour, to easily see dirt in the cloth, and not wipe it back into your paint.
Nice big 40 x 70cm in size
Holds 2 and half litres of water in its fibres, that's some serious sucking.

Have one. Something to note is that you don’t wring it out, just use it till it gets soaked.

Which has been fine for me, but once it’s saturated it becomes pretty useless until it dries out, but that’s only a problem if you are washing 4+ cars in one session.

    When it’s dry, amazing towel

Depends on the size of the car . Small car no problem. Big car, by the end will be quite soaked.

  • how does this compare to the twisted pro sucker also from bowdens?

    • I'd choose a twisted loop towel over this any day. I use my 10 year old Gyeon Silk (twisted loop) over my BGS.

    Too much lint

I have one of these and find it pretty poor, much prefer using the gyeon drying towel

  • Not a huge fan myself… Good price though.

This one gets microfibers all over my car.

Yeah I tried one for the first time this week and was shocked how much green fluff was left on the car. I figured I was doing something wrong and had to re-wash that part. I know these have been well reviewes before, so does anyone know how to avoid the fluff sticking to the car?

If you're getting fibres left on the car, then it honestly can't have been cleaned properly.
In saying that, what I mean is that your car will likely need a clay bar / decontamination, etc. to get rid of the tiny contaminants still stuck to the paint you can't feel with a sponge that are likely catching the towel's fibres.

I don't care as much about my second-hand daily, but my other cars all had decons, minor paint corrections, and multi-part ceramic coatings applied when new.
So now, they're incredibly easy to clean, 90% of the water sheets off, and the sucker just glides across.
And using something like the Boss Gloss also helps attract the water to the towel.
N.b. I #'n hate cleaning my cars. I couldn't think of anything worse than spending hours cleaning something that you ultimately just want to take outside to play in!

        • YMMV I guess. I spent like $200 on cleaning products including this towel and clay decon bars. It didn't really make any difference for me, but I'm glad it worked for you.

Supercheap Auto's home branded eclipse towel actually works better for my car and leaves no residual fibres.

@socialistshroom: Maybe you both got rare duds. I have two and neither has ever left any residue.

This is what works for me:
            - Vehicle's paint is in good nick and regularly "polished" but is mostly out in the open.
            - I only use them to dry after thoroughly washing and rinsing vehicles - ie soaking up water quickly, no cleaning or rubbing.
            - I generally use the drop and drag approach.
            - I only use them on large panels which typically don't attract road grime - ie not sills, wheels, bumper bars etc

    • Just wondering. Did you wash it first before using?

    • +1

You have to always, always, was your microfibre towels prior to first use.
I have 2, they are absolutely fine. Bought for my dad, his is fine too.
      User error, I'd say.
Give it a wash, then try again.
If not, the Kmart drying towels do a good job too.

I didn't wash it before use, but I've washed it a coupe times since then and I still have the same issue. Maybe I was unlucky with the one I purchased, but I don't have any issues with a cheaper SCA iteration

        • That's good that the SCA works for you.
When you wash, you can use either a little bit of your normal clothes wash, or a specialised microfibre wash. However, if your wash has conditioners, or fabric softeners, or scents, that ruins these towels.

        • Small amount of home brand Colesworth eucalyptus wash on gentle wash or just hand washed and rinsed in a bucket works a treat. If you have a purchase record (receipt or in your SCA account?) I'd be inclined to return it.
