    I have this. Is good.

    • I am thinking of buying it, just wondering if I should go for this one or a wifi 6E router.

      • 6E now is rather pointless as the main difference being the 6GHz band is really only usefull when you're in line of sight (no obstruction) with your 6E router. Then comes the fact that Wifi6 has already provided higher than gigabit speed with the 5GHz band, which is much faster than most people's internet connection. I think if you have that many 6E client devices, just wait for 2 years for Wifi7 to catch on and use that. Till then Wifi6 will hold you over and you're not missing anything.

        • Thanks, going to pull the trigger.

  • Upgrading to 1000/50 with Aussie BB and someone recommended the Flint 2. Currently using a Nighthawk AC2300 - would this be a worthwhile investment or comparable benchmark?

    • +1

went from an old nighthawk to a wifi 6 router (redmi). better range and much better stability

    • Went from the Nighthawk X6 r8000 and I day hell yes it is worth it.

Even the wife noticed and commented positively, which is huge.

Also the flints ability to handle 30+ connected iot’s vs the nighthawk is night (lol) n day

hong kong site doesnt include gst afaik. better to buy from amazon esp. with any cashback deals

    • The current price is USD122.85 and that matches the charge on my CC

      • Who pays gst at customs?

        • +1

          I certainly didn't

        • They won't collect GST if it's below $1000, instead they rely on overseas retails to collect GST.

  • But it doesn't have the word gamer in the title and it's less than $800 so no deal! /s

Dang, tried to submit this deal late last night and was told "new users and overseas users cannot post between 2am and 7am, save as a draft instead" so I did.
Except I'm in WA and my account is 13 years old. Thanks OzBargain adminbot.

    Notes from OpenWRT page:
    - Comes with no power switch inbuilt. Some users have used this power switch adapter to add one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BZJ5CKXG/
    - Comes with a 1m power cord, some users have added this 1m extension lead: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08SJXJG48/

  • How's the software va ASUS? Would be looking to keep both stock. Obviously no built in mesh capability with the Flint, but other than that?

    • +2

Software built on open source (OpenWRT) OS, meaning there's a lot of room to tinker around (incl. adding mesh capability, etc.) than ASUS but you'll probably spend more time achieving same functionalities that ASUS' software has.

ie. ASUS could be configured with up to 2 WAN ports (I believe), with OpenWRT you could literally make every port a WAN port. Though, you'll need to install separate software packages and configure it to handle multilple WAN simultaneously (load balancing) regardless how many WAN ports you want, meanwhile on ASUS you could just flip a switch if you just wanted 2.

      • Thanks mate. Ended up going for an ax86u picking it up soon…

  • Obviously no built in mesh capability with the Flint, but other than that?

I read from other posters here on Ozbargain who have this device that because it runs OpenWrt it can be used in a mesh.

I have this device and I am very happy with it. I don't need mesh so have not followed up on it.

    • How does warranty work with the direct site?

    • +1

As pointed out on the GL.iNet deal thread, they are not collecting GST in their sales, so you can expect to be getting a GST invoice once it arrives from customs (unless they happen to miss it).
It will end up being slightly more expensive that way, plus you'll have more hassle with warranty than if you're dealing with Amazon AU.

      • I guess they missed it.

  • Cheers.

My mate gave me a Glinet router pair a couple months ago, i was surprised they loaded it with openwrt 15… old af.
But from what I could gather the 2200 Velica was rheir first device and they abandoned that from updates very soon after.

You can however get to service mode and put latest openwrt on (v24) and all the glory with that!

However, with this one here… I bought it.

Were going FRESH Tomato baby! :)

(Because pfsense has this bug thats been open for 11 years and frankly, middle finger to those guys for their idiotic logic on why it won’t be fixed)

  • Long shot but has anyone ordered theirs & is currently severely delayed?

    • Amazon is pretty good with shipping. Did you still not get it?

  • Can anyone comment on how would this compare with the Amazon eero6+ Wi-Fi router that comes with Superloop NBN?

    • What feature is most important to you?

      • Probably just coverage across the house. And reliability.
Currently have whatever router Optus gave us too many years ago, and its way past time to change to a better offer.

        • +1

If you are worried about coverage the eero6+ is mesh capable unlike the Flint 2 so that might be a positive depending on your house. However, if you're currently using an old Optus router and it 'has been' doing the job ok it doesn't sound like you necessarily need mesh and the Flint 2 or a single eero6+ device should be more than adequate.

Both the Flint 2 and eero6+ are reliable so I don't think you have anything to worry about on that score. GL.inet are good with firmware updates, not sure about firmware updates for the eero6+ but I haven't read anything bad to say about them so you're probably ok there too.

Flint 2 comes with Adguard home and can easily be setup as a VPN server which might be something you want to use or play around with.
