Hard to believe $549
Exactly. Chinese components worth about $60. Mostly freight charging.
Just like an Apple products!
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away…
Akai was a quality brand. Now it is a sequel trilogy.
Probably just the blaupunkt rebadged. If so I wouldn't even use it if someone gave it to me.. it's that bad.
They were once made in Japan. Things change, sold their soul. Even Blaipunkt was a reputable brand from Europe before selling themselves out to Chinese interests.
While I'd debate whether it's sold out or salvaged from the gutter after imploding in a changing market.. you're right.
@Commodore64: You're right… imploding is far more accurate. Not unlike their previous CRT tube TVs when dropped off a balcony
Lol when was Akai a good brand? Not as far as I can remember. Akai was the Kmart cheapie
Long time ago. Hi-fi systems were good.
Their audio equipment was well regarded.
I wonder if they'd still be going today if it weren't for financial mismanagement. Their reel tape machines were pretty good
Well if the title says so it must be true!

WTH is with this pricing. I paid 5x this for a mid range 75" Sony and somehow they cant make profits on that but this is possible…
How does this price even work with today's inflation, retailer margin etc etc
My tv has went bust after 10 years. I opened the box and hardly 3 boards / circuits and a screen. Tv's are way more over priced in my opinion and these big companies make a huge profit. But i imagine it is the same with any electronic device.
I had one do these and died in 2 months. When I reached out to Akai they just gave me a refund approval and HV refunded it
Saved them from paying dumping fees for hazardous waste
And got paid for it!
Wow who needs FB marketplace anymore!
This or ALDI 75"?
Don't think Bigw provided extended warranty?
If I remember correctly, the original warranty on Akai was 3-4 years anyway
True, it is 36month for the model (different from this post?) on HN

I'm on the same boat. Let me know what you decide.
Had a ffalcon, thinking of going mini led this time for game streaming, otherwise the panel is fine for yt kids and the occasional yt.
Mini led kd 3x the price though….
The Aldi is only 70" , this is 75".
No stock near perth
Luck you
For watching tv in kids room… great. But it's the webos that kills it. Can't install apps from Play store like ABC, SBS etc. the ABC is really good for kids shows though.
Webos has abc and sbs
Google TV solves any smart TV issues.

Its a generic OEM. - So Akai, Blaupunkt, JVC, Polaroid… Look at any of those ..all the same.
Used a remote in Big W, all TVs changed at the same time.
Basically any decent brand name in the 80's, now taken over by a Chinese manufacturer…this is the TV they sell
more like tec specs. brightness, contrast ratio. its not listed on the website. this model.
From someone who got a non brand tv before: just don't
From someone who got a kogan tv, (profanity) true.
It’s a good deal for those that don’t really care about picture quality.
Hmm… do I want a Sorny, or a Panaphonic?
I went Phlillips
