30 Days Visa-Free Entry to China for Australian & New Zealand Passport Holders

5578

Thank you Scrooge McDeal for the original 15 day deal.

Good news for travelers from the many countries benefiting from China’s unilateral visa-free policy: from November 30, 2024, visa-free stays in China will be extended to 30 days, instead of the current 15.

Also good news for me as I was planning a bit longer trip to China early next year and was dreading the visa application process.

These are now the current countries enjoying the 30 day visa free entry

Andorra Australia Austria Belgium
Brunei Bulgaria Croatia Cyprus
Denmark Estonia Finland France
Germany Greece Hungary Iceland
Ireland Italy Japan Latvia
Liechtenstein Luxembourg Malaysia Malta
Monaco Montenegro Netherlands New Zealand
North Macedonia Norway Poland Portugal
Romania Slovakia Slovenia South Korea
Spain Switzerland

              @mustang87401: U r good at whataboutism, LOL.
u cannot say, s/he cannot say, I cannot say, but the truth can say. what is the truth? learn it urself.

Read the same this morning shocking and shows how savage Chinese government is but also afraid of some chubby no name artist drawing caricature of winnie poopoo

  • +10

Brain washed people negged this one lol come on, we re just talking about travelling here, relax people!

    • -6

      Do elaborate.
How are these people "brain washed"?
How does not wishing to support a country sponsoring Russia's invasion evidence of "brain washing"?

You are talking about traveling to an autocratic nation that is sponsoring a violent war in a sovereign nation, and you're suggesting people are brainwashed for merely disapproving. You're a joke.

      • +4

We supporting China everyday. Everything is made in China. Even US and European branded goods. Good luck. =)

People not supporting America anymore and their illegal genocide of Gaza through their Zionist state in Israel.

  • +5

So many Sinophobic people hating on China.

CCP is an improvement vs the imperial monarchy in charge at the time.

It has come a long way. But people are still comparing it to Murderica built on genocide just like Australia. Real genocide where the original inhabitants become a minority 1% or less of entire population.

China is a lot safer than America and I wouldn't visit America if you gave me a free ticket.

You all need to look in the mirror before casting stones.

    • -6

Funny coming from a Chinese who are flooding into Australia. You think indigenous want Chinese people coming in the millions? You think indigenous people like Chinese people? Crazy …

      • Indigenous must love jews and arabs though, right? LoL

    • -4

Wow comparing the bad to the worst. Race to the bottom. Civilisation at its best!

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ looking all these dummy trolls sitting in their mums basement arguing like they’re achieving in life,, so sad!
Mean while trumps the one effin all the crap for you, end you are sitting on a double edged sword
Sucks you think your loser opinion matters at all here
Ps: I know mines doesn’t to

  • what about google, youtube, instagram, spotify, do they have access over there?

    • +2

travel sim solves all your problems. can access facebook X the hub whatever you like. or a VPN but not all work

    • -6

No access to anything. It’s crazy Australians don’t even know how suppressed Chinese are. It’s Orwellian nightmare.

      • +8

lol i don't know a single chinese who doesn't use vpn to access western sites. every word you spout is showcasing your ignorance. I think CCP is living rent free in your head judging by how much they have your knickers in a twist

        • -6

Except that using VPN is illegal in China, true a lot of people are using it, but there is a risk you may be subject to fines or even imprisonment.

          https://www.bitdefender.com/en-gb/blog/hotforsecurity/chines…

          • @OzHan: Pretty much everything is illegal in china. That way if you do something the CCP doesn't like they have an easy way to arrest you. Unless you are posting anti-CCP garbage all over the internet, you are not going to get arrested for a VPN.
I used surfshark last time i was there, was hard to connect some days but needed for wifi networks. Otherwise just get a large international data sim.

        • -7

So you are saying every Chinese person is breaking the law? That’s complete bs most Chinese don’t dare to access VPNs as that will result in a decrease in the social credit score. Low credit score= no bullet train for you. Speak against winnie poopoo= no bullet train for you

          • +4

@mustang87401: yeah at some point in this thread I'd hope you'll figure out that you may not actually know what you are talking about

            • +5

@May4th: He just doesn't know anything. It's good that people like him don't go to China.

              Hate to see idiots abroad.

          • +6

@mustang87401: i came back from visiting china literally 2 months ago, and my in-laws son (who lives in China) literally say they use VPN to access youtube etc. they didn't have an overseas education either, so how they know what's on youtube and google is beyond me.

point is, you don't know anything and certainly don't sound like someone who's been to china 99 times as you've written previously. your "experience" is your armchair at home and murdoch media.

Taiwan (Republic of China) offers a better deal - 90 days visa free!
    https://www.roc-taiwan.org/au_en/post/465.html

    • +1

if only they have a digital nomad visa for longer

    • -1

I recommend Taiwan. People are freedom loving and western minded. Speak much better English and everything is freely accessible. Lovely place!

      • just imagine. if you spoke the language of the land everything else would be accessible too, rather than have locals be minded and versed just to accomodate you.

The phrase when in rome, doesnt end with act like youre not in rome.

btw freedom loving is probably why their current government only won with 40% of total votes. while only 71% of the population voted.
mfs won with literally only 29% of the pupulation supporting them. but a wins a win right? The minority has spoken.

that aside, it is a great holiday destination though.

  • Would it be hard to get a visa for my Filipino wife with permanent Australian residency? Given tensions between China and the Philippines at the moment?

    • -7

There are no tensions. China is invading internationally recognised water of Phillipines. UN/ international courts have ruled on these matters many times and ALWAYS in Phillipines favour. China is a very agressive bully.

      • +1

the UNCLOS has ruled against China ONCE and not many times and yes in Phillipines favor. However, since you're so educated and well traveled, tell us how many times the USA has accepted UNCLOS rulings when its against them?

What's the fastest way to completely block people on ozb? Too many people think they have big brains.

    • Na na. Let em cook. We live in a democracy after all.

  • +9

Went last year for 3 months for work and travelled 11 cities. I can fairly say china is way ahead of Australia Korea and Taiwan in tech, infrastructure, e-commerce and major investments. Don’t read what’s on the net and go see for yourself when you have a chance to be open minded.

    • -6

Definitely chinese… 🇨🇳 as a non Chinese person china is not better than Korea in any way. People are much more friendly, everything much more accessible, people speak way more English. Foreigner friendly locals. In china most people don’t want to speak or interact or even help tourists. If you are non Chinese you can’t use any of the e-commerce or digital wallets and even getting a SIM card takes half a day. Everything much easier in Korea.

      • +13

ah yes anyone that has a positive experience in china is either chinese or a bot. I do feel for you, go touch some grass buddy it's not healthy

      • +2

Mustang is dead. They are going EV all the way!

      • +1

I’d agree with you if you were talking 5-10 years ago.

        Everything is much easier now.

        • -6

No I went 5-10 years ago and last year NOTHING has changed it’s almost identical experience for foreigners. Without local id you can’t do anything and constant surveillance registration, passports for everything has only increased. I remember 20 years ago it was all much more relaxed it’s a proper police state now. Utopian in every way

          • +3

@mustang87401: that's horse shit. i last went 7 years ago and EVERYTHING has changed. I could use cash more liberally back then, now its Alipay and Didi to order taxi's. Cash isn't preferred nowadays depending on the vendor. No smart phone? You're gonna have a bad day.

I could go anywhere two months ago with no issues as a foreigner, never had my passport checked other than train stations and in hotels and this goes for anywhere in the world.

Dubai is great right according to you? Taiwan is great right? Korea is fantastic too!? You have a local ID for all those jurisdictions?

            • @mushyboy: What are the odds he hangs around Itaewon and thinks that's representative of Korea?

      • Huh. I use Alipay with my overseas credit card and phone number. Set it all up in Oz before I head there and use it all the time…

  • This is great news but do you still need to register or notify some Australian department when going overseas?

    • Regardless of your destination you should always notify your bank/cc provider of your travel details since they don't get alarmed if you try to access accounts from overseas.
      But other than that nope…

  • Already got 15 day return flights but this is cool for next time, thanks for the info!

  • +5

    Great news thanks!
Heaps of unnecessary arguments and debates over this offer - if you don't like don't go.
Those who like take it up!
    Simple.

PS. Just use VPN in China.

    • -6

It’s ILLEGAL to use a VPN in China.

There were several occasions where people getting arrested and put into 'detention' for one or two weeks, and according to the police announcement they were simply using it, not selling. Some of them were arrested after a tip-off to the police.

      • +2

wish I had your confidence when talking about stuff you have idea about mate. 'illegal' - yes 'policed' - no unless you are stupid enough to broadcast it or engaging in politically sensitive activities. the CCP doesn't care about you accessing p0rnhub

        • -2

It is policed when there are people detained and jailed for certain periods of time. Everything I said is true go do your research first before replying.

          • +1

@mustang87401: I see reading isn't your strong suit

unless you are stupid enough to broadcast it or engaging in politically sensitive activities

          • +1

@mustang87401: It is not illegal to use a VPN in China but it is illegal to use a VPN to access illegal content such as how to make explosives, joining cults, planning murders, etc as it should be.

Secondly, you must have some imagination to think that a country of 1.411 billion people can be policed effectively online by a force of ~4 million police that have their hands full doing other stuff like work.

      • u'd better checking the law b4 opening ur mouth. law never says illegal to use vpn, same as using knife in your daily life, but it is illegal if using it to kill people.
Hardly believe that u r a white who has been in China times, instead, a true loser who is still chasing your Australian visa.

  • +7

I find it interesting every time there's a deal about travelling to China, a whole bunch people want to get "political" about it. Without talking about how delusional some people are, 99% of the deals on this site is about products that most likely partly if not fully come out of China.

Putting all of this aside, this site is about bargains and savings; and there should definitely be rules about political "debates", name calling and other oppressive acts.

    • +2

There are a few posters working extra hard today, almost feel like the counterpart of "50 cents".

      • +2

        10 cent… AUD.

      Welcome to Ozpolitics… 😂

  • +1

Going to China in March this 2025 for 2 weeks. It was too much hassle to get a visa previously.

But might do a bigger trip next time now that 30 days is available.

Recently got my Alipay to verify after 5 tries using passport and facial scan.

    • +1

You actually don’t really need the passport thing for Alipay unless you are depositing money into it. You can just link it to a credit card if you are only using it to make payment

      • I think if not verify locks you out after 3,000aud spend. Brother in law working for Telsa had issues in Shanghai and account didn't work.

Luckily, colleague fronted him some money. But after verified his account doesn't have issues anymore.

        • Yeah there are probably certain features that are limited until you are verified. I didn’t have issues though using about $2000 and just to rent bikes

  • +2

LMAO it took 5 posts to cross into geopolitics discussion.

    • I'd say we managed to restrain ourselves incredibly well this time around.

symptom of economic woes and social unrest. but hey twice in a week sounds pretty good considering there's been 76 school shootings alone in the US already this year. it doesn't make the news any more it's just a way of life.

  • -2

Are they still doing covid arse swabs? Hope these idiots now come back to sanity

    • nah no one cares any more you can't even get RATs from pharmacies. they went from quarantine and sticking swabs in nose as well as @ss to letting it rip almost overnight

    • Medically, the ass swab /stool test was the most accurate and fastest testing method compared to others which was why it was employed in limited areas.

Aussie hospital also test for covid when collecting stool samples.

    • well gotta give them points for taking the initiative for going to the source considering we literally had this happen.

  • +2

One thing for sure Australian love China products, very good example, just go and look at Kmart, how many Australians are there everyday and very crowded go on the weekend you can feel the queue at the cashier. Made in China make Kmart one of the very successful retail in Australia.

    • +1

Usually Kmart stuff are some of the lower tier or lower quality goods. You can get much better quality good in China for the same price you pay in Kmart or even less.

  • What are some good stuff to buy in China and can bring back to OZ without issues?

    • +2

Basically anything electronic, or anything sold in Kmart, as most of them are made in China, and way cheaper there. Examples are screen protecters, phone cases, dash cam, type-c docking station, Wireless Earbuds, android tablets, Laptops. Glasses and sunglasses are also much cheaper as well, if you wear glasses. You can buy Chinese brand sneakers and clothes such as Anta or Lining, and also quality underwear and socks etc.

  • +4

Man, I came for the deals and stayed fpr the drama and it did not disappoint.

  • With the 15 day, now 30 day free China Visa for Australian passport holders, is it necessary to show some kind of return ticket? The reason I ask is that I’m planning on leaving China by crossing the land border into Kazakhstan.

    • No, you just have to leave before the 30 days expires. Applies to all sea, land, and air travel.

  • +4

    Shocking attitudes towards China here.

    • -4

      Maybe because of this

      • +3

china was suppose to collapse for decades. we were suppose to go war with china since 2020 as well. can we just get it over with?

        • +2

It's truly fascinating that people just randomly believe the narrative that a country that has prospered under the wings of commerce and trade apparently wants to wage war over…what?

Their system of government isn't for everybody and they know it, and it's far easier to buy what they need from others than it is to subjugate them so what's the game plan here?

If anything, it really feels like media want to will this sort of thing into existence when it kind of just collapses under the smallest scrutiny.

          • +3

@Sikarion: media has been hyping up the yellow peril since the early 2000s. it's only natural as China is becoming the main and only threat to the US led global hedgemony. the military industrial complex also needs a 'threat' to continue selling weapons get the defence contracts. always follow the money

          • -1

@Sikarion: So explain why they keep conducting military exercises around Taiwan and repeatedly threaten to invade.

Why do they keep making illegitimate territorial claims in the South China Sea? Why do people like you keep overlooking this?

            • -1

@jasonxc: @jasonxc Remember when the world was shitting on China for entering taiwans air defence identification zone?

Then i find out theres more of china than there is taiwan in that zone. thats when i personally called it all bs.

I have a suspicion that may explain the south china sea claims right now though. This may be a long one so hear me out.

Chinas been trying to boost their economy through trade with their revitalised silk road trade routes with their belt and road thing announced in 2014 i believe it was. Now if this plan goes well theyll greatly benefit in the long run. with potential to surpass the US.

Geographically the silk road belt is entering china through the north west. The maritime silk road is their through the south china seas.

I just find it facinatinly coincidental that xinjiang, and the south china seas just so happens to be the 2 main gateways.

If i was USA those are literally the points id be attacking to put a halt on their plans.
That and forking out 1.6 billion to fund to smear china internationally.
Dont forget the first reported on the genocide of muslims in xinjiang was from our ASPI, who are literally funded by US ingelligence.
On the other hand if i was China id be doing everything in protecting my trade routes too.

This is literally a bargain websites where people rave about 4.60 family sized timtams. our opinions are, very insignificant.

End of the day believe what you want. All the power to ya.

              • -2

@ashtrayc2c: That's a lot of schizophrenic nonsense just to cover for China's illegitimate claims for a sea.

I have no doubt you will also be defending them when they inevitably invade Taiwan, just like how they continue to support Russia's invasion into Ukraine.

                • -2

@jasonxc: Here’s the funny thing though. They’ve allegedly been about to invade Taiwan for how many years now?

Look here boys we’re gon invade Taiwan. Let’s wait a few more years for their defences to be up before we hit em…

One quiet schizophrenic ramble doesn’t make it less relevant than a loud parroted schizophrenic ramble… cept the latter can turn into propaganda.

Like I said son, believe what you want to. We literally live in a democracy so it’s ok not to feel pain when you hear an opposing opinion.

                  • -2

@ashtrayc2c: The Chinese government themselves talk about invasion all the time and regularly publish wartime propaganda.

You're not fooling anyone. And notice you're still trying to avoid the subject of China supporting Russia during their invasion of Ukraine.

                    • @jasonxc: It’s fine if reading comprehension isn’t your forte but you do realise when someone replies to one of your points you just bring up something new to counter?

But let’s entertain your question since I have time.

What was chinas position on Russia and Ukraine since day one? Peaceful resolution.

Which group convinced Ukraine out of peace talks with Russia? US Uk Canada… and who else? can’t remember now.

When did UK pay back their loan to the US for WW2?

And when did the new lend and lease act with US and Ukraine get signed?

I mean come on now. At least pretend not to be dense.

It’s all about the Benjamin’s baby.

You honestly think the general public gets genuine information from our media to formulate own opinions?

                      • -2

                        @ashtrayc2c:

What was chinas position on Russia and Ukraine since day one? Peaceful resolution.

AKA, ceding to Russia's demands. This is China isn't participating in any of the sanctions, and isn't providing Ukraine any support.

I notice you have several long posts in this thread aggressively defending China. You need to disguise your job a little better because you couldn't be any less discreet.

                        • +1

@jasonxc: ceding to russias demands? you have to be specific here. which demands are you refering to?

in relation to trade sanctions, (im going to copy and paste here hope you dont mind since ive already replied) these entities are also not participating in the sanctions as theyre still trading with russia. should they be painted by the same brush as china?

Major export partners with Russia in 2024.
                          China: coal and crude oil,
EU, mostly France, Austria, Slovakia, : LNG gas and oil,
                          India: coal and crude oil,
                          Turkey: oil products,
                          Japan: LNG,
                          Brazil: oil products,
                          South Korea: oil products,
Taiwan: coal. <- this one surprised even me.

in Indias case their foreign minister has already made public response where no other nation has a say in how they trade relation to the proesperity of their own people.

lastly, if youve actually paid attention, ive merely questioned statements made by people with verifiable facts.
so what ever "job" you think i have you are quite a way off.

ill defend anyone when i know theyre been vilified unreasonably.

remind me who convinced ukraine out of peace talks when the option was still on the table… take your time. starts with U ends with K.

                        • +2

@jasonxc: of course china isn't going to sanction Russia. China doesn't have a choice - US now views China as an existential threat Russia is their only ally to balance US power globally. It's a matter of survival and geopolitics 101. comments such as "why doesn't china push back against the big evil russia" is as naieve as it is laughable

                          • @May4th: they think they can do it better than the leaders of a technocratic country.

    • -2

Even more shocking than China's attitude towards Uighurs?

      • -1

@jasonxc Funny how only non-muslim people and countries are the ones pointing at China about repressing muslims (something, something people who live in glass houses…) when there's not even a whisper about it from all the muslim brothers and sisters elsewhere.

Sorry to say, you've been fed a mistruth about the whole situation. The only ones that believe it are the people involved in the lie and hustle and the people that blindly follow them.

Uighurs are cool chinese people of a different faith, that's it. There's plenty of Uighurs currently living in my state with family back home and they travel between both nations quite often. Their food is pretty awesome.

        • -2

There are satellite images showing the sterilization camps.

No need to spread your propaganda here, the gig is up. Whataboutisms aren't going to convince anyone either. China has concentration camps for a large ethnic minority, which is nothing less than a crime against humanity. It's as simple as that.

          • -1

@jasonxc: They're not sterilisation camps, you goose.

They're reformation centers that house entire sections of the community for exactly that purpose: education and training so they can move away from low value work and poverty so as to not fall under the sway of fundamentalist extremism.

How do you think the Uyghurs managed to go from collective rural farming villages to giant industrial agricultural production in one generation?

China managed to do in Xin Jiang what the USA and allies with 1M bombs, guns and tanks could not in the middle east; they resolved terrorism as peacefully as possible and gave them a better tomorrow.

What I find sad is the tiresome spite that comes out of people that just can't process the concept that others can do better and so you either disbelieve it entirely or do your best to sabotage its' success.

            How's that for propaganda?

@Sikarion: There’s an old joke where China sent their propaganda expert to the west to learn more about propaganda.

After a while the Chinese expert says to the western counterpart “I’m amazed at how you implement propaganda so well, how do you do it?”, where the western counterpart replies. “What propaganda???”

@Sikarion: Ahhh of course. Trapping people against their will is perfectly ok because they're being REFORMED in REFORMATION centers! These concentration camps are just for education and training! Eliminate that troublesome sense of free will so they can learn to live happily under an authoritarian regime!

You know what I find sad? You are genuinely insane and don't even realize it.

Dunno, probably has something to do with the forced industrialisation and genocide of their culture at the hands of the Chinese Government.

You appear to be celebrating the erosion of free will. Bizarre.

              • +1

@SvcKpc: By genocide of culture, do you happen to mean the Uyghur muqam culture? Which was only recognised by unesco after years of petition by the Chinese government?

Still believe everything you think you know?

                • -2

@ashtrayc2c: I believe what the satellite data shows: camps with prisoners in them.

You can keep feeding the propaganda all you like, you're not going to fool anyone. Everyone with a functioning brain understands what the chinese communist party is like.

                  • +1

@SvcKpc: So to you, publicly available information from unesco is propaganda now. Do you even know who they are and what they do?

Guess you don’t have anything else. But that’s alright. Almost 500 people on a bargain website down under reckons this is a good deal after all.

@ashtrayc2c: Notice how all you can ramble about is posturing to NGOs, but you refuse to confront the reality of what China actually does within their own borders.

The fact is that they have camps, and they forcibly strip people of their human rights. Same goes for Hong Kong, same goes for Tibet, and then there's the whole Tiananmen Square Massacre which you guys love to pretend never happened.

And why does China insist they keep their status as a developing country? They're demanding Australia and the rest of the western world fork out $1.8 trillion to help themselves and third world nations "fight climate change", yet they're the biggest emitters of fossil fuels on the planet, have a hugely powerful economy and have used coercion tariffs against Australia in the past, yet apparently they are the "developing country" that doesn't have to pay anything.

By all means keep desperately trying to divert peoples attention away from what China actually does. You are totally deranged beyond repair.
