AU released ~ Sep-24 & almost 50% off, well done Motorola.

Hold on, haven't many bought a replacement phone already?

  • -3

Omg, can I return unopened one to Lenovo, bought from them

  • Thanks….. got one

  • +1

Fml. Is there a way to get a price difference refund from this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/878792

    • +1

      Mobilciti don't refund price difference.

I have tried with one of the previpus deals.

      • Wonder if there is a change of mind return…

  • So sad, I don't have eBay plus.

    • Pay $4.99. It's extremely worth it.

      • +1

Cheers! For $5, I will do that

  • What is the camera quality like on this phone?

    • +2

      Good for only $207

I have the G84 5G and would not recommend this phone unless G85 is like on another new level. Came form Xiaomi Redmi Note 10Pro after the end of 3G. UI sucks, photo and video quality is poor.

      • -1

Just use gcam mod (google camera) for most android phones. It can improve photo quality with lower noise/ISO, etc. For video, just set 24 fps especially more useful in darker area.

        Download from here:
        https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev…

        For other gcam mods:
        https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/

Change the settings of gcam mod to get better photo quality such as enable HDR+ Enhanced, enable auto night sight, rich colour in photos, Ultra HDR, camera photo resolution as RAW format resolution etc.

      • I am still using my Redmi Note 10 pro with 4Gand haven't had any issues in Perth.

Did your mobile data service stop working because of 3G shutdown?

Do I really need to buy another?

  • How would this compare to a Vivo Y55?

    • Better in every way

  • Boyy howdy, great deal

    Is this still working? 😞
"Unfortunately, this code no longer works. Please continue with your order."

  • Code not working for me! :-(

  • Code doesn’t work

  • Cheap

  • Looks like code has been removed. I got in on time.

Does this suffer from the same (delayed) notification problems as the G84?

Genuinely looking for a resolution - and buying this a G84 replacement may be the only solution!

    • Try this:
Go to Settings > Apps > Special app access > Unrestricted data, and flick the switch for the desired apps.

      • +1

Thanks, but all my apps with delayed notifications are enabled in that setting 😔

I've disabled doze mode, but notifications still don't come through (until I deliberately open the app).

Think this is a systemic issue with Motorola - but none of the 'solutions' on line work…

        • I have this issue with one of my apps on my vivo x50 lite, don't have any issues with other apps.

    • +1

Oh my, I thought it was just me.

      • +1

Nope. Common problem. Didn't realise until I "upgraded" to G84. Great phone let down by some pretty average support. Plenty of complaints on line

        • Have you tried downloading a non stock app and enable unrestricted data for them? Eg if you were missing notifications for SMS, have you tried downloading a different app and see if that works?

          • @Helenn: Yep, tried alternatives - but it's inconsistent.

A example is with my regular IMAP client. Never had a problem before, just with the G84. A different (not my preferred) IMAP client has no issues.

I use Textra for SMS - no problems with that, but Facebook messenger is hit-n-miss.

            There's just no consistency…

            • @MadMapMan: For me it's mainly Whatsapp (but not only that). I might get a notification for the first message, but then they send 2-3 more after it and I didn't know / didn't open the app because the first message was just 'ok' or 'lol'. Almost cost me a relationship in one instance as I was 'ignoring' her. Except there I was thinking I was the one being ignored.

              • @wetsandwich: And there's the inconsistency. No problems with WhatsApp on my G84.

… mind you for some WA messages, I'd happily not get a notification - like the ones from that Nigerian prince!

                • @MadMapMan: In my Moto G54, in the Settings - Battery - Adaptive Battery (disable this).

If "Use Adaptive Battery" is enabled, the text info says : "Notifications may be delayed for these apps"

So far, no delay for sms, gmail and Whatsapp in my Moto G54 with Adaptive Battery disabled.

                  • @neoleo: Thanks - already disabled. Some notifications (e.g. FB Messenger, IMAP, AusPost) still not coming through… :-(

FWIW, many think that doze mode seems to be the culprit. Doze can be disabled a number of ways: ADB/app - and I've tried them all, but so far the problem persists. None of the approaches I've tried (including all the "adaptive battery / background use / improve battery while inactive" settings) has helped.

This is mega frustrating. I've even considered switching to the brand new Samsung I have (which I hate, and the reason I went back to the Moto G84) to solve the problem…

IMO, the G54 is a likely step down, the Edge 50 possibly a step up and the G85 a step sidewards. I just want to know that the time spent switching will result in a phone with all things working!

                    • +2

                      @MadMapMan: Maybe try this one:
Open the apps that you want to keep running like FB Messenger, IMAP, AusPost. Tap phone's bottom right of "square" shape icon, then tap "padlock" icon under or at the bottom left of each app that you want to keep running.

                      Additional tips:
                      https://www.reddit.com/r/motorola/comments/1fyezwe/delayed_n…

I checked no.3 from the link above:
Settings - Notifications - Device & app notifications
In my phone, only Moto App Launcher and Android Auto are Allowed. The rest are still Not Allowed. I don't use Android Auto, so I disable this too. Especially info from the link above is "Android System Intelligence" and "Moto AI Services"

Very long time ago when I was using a Samsung work phone, it has delayed notifications too for Whatsapp for example. I have previous Moto G5 Plus without this problem.

                      • @neoleo: Thank you. Lifesaver!! (Couldnt' believe it was that simple!)

This has at least (partly) fixed my preferred IMAP client, and I now mostly get notifications without any delay - some intermittent issues remain. (I'm gradually testing the other apps that don't notify in a timely manner…)

For those playing along at home:

Tap phone's bottom right of "square" shape icon

                        Means:

Use the App Switching 'square' in 3-button navigation to show the apps you want to 'lock' and not clear.

For those who want a deeper dive into Android Doze - this (not for the faint hearted) article may assist: Android Doze Tweaks.

Since the article's 6 years old, and Doze has been around for ages, this reaffirms my Motorola provides "pretty average support" comment.

                        Thanks again @neoleo

                      • @neoleo: Yes I think this method fixes mine on G54 as well!! At least for a couple of hours now I can get the notifications without problem! Thanks!!

                      • @neoleo: Nope. Didn't continue. Back to no notifications for some apps…

                        • @MadMapMan: How many apps running? There must be limit for this and maybe time interval too. Imagine if we have 10/20 or more social media apps, email, etc. that are running all day. Some priorities are more important like most people use/open Whatsapp more often than Facebook Messenger I reckon. Some people are late to check Facebook Messenger if compared with WhatsApp.

                          • @neoleo: 24 when I looked - didn't realise I had that many! Killed most of them and will keep an eye out to see if notifictions work (for the apps I care about) when less apps running. IMO, starting to clutch at straws… :-(

                        • @MadMapMan: Personally I just bit the bullet and bought a Samsung A55 for $4xx from Bing Lee ebay in a deal posted yesterday - after a certain amount of effort there's no point slinging mud uphill trying to force a garbage product to work properly. It's a bit of a throwaway of money (I just know the original vendor wouldn't be cooperative if I tried to return it after 9 months), but it's also a lesson in just buy a quality brand next time even if it costs a bit more.

                          • @wetsandwich: I have a brand new Samsung A55. Absolutely hate it! Thought it'd be an improvement over my old (cracked screen) Moto Edge 20 Fusion. Lasted a fortnight with the Samsung and made me go back to the Moto G84. Even with the notification problem, it's better than the A55 'brick'!

                            • @MadMapMan: How did you check 24 apps running in the background all day? I use "Hibernator" app on all my android phones. Most apps that have been closed by this app won't run again until I open the app, but certain apps can be triggered by other app or during phone charging. For example, opening Amazon Music will trigger Amazon app to run too, same with Uber Eats app will trigger Uber app.

It's good for me to use this Hibernator app.

Looks like code no longer works.

    • Nooooooo

  • How many moto phones do I need to buy?

  • Failed to pull the trigger on this and the 50.
    Hold for lower 😂
