reckon if you flipped one of these upside down it'd start crawling away?

    • I have the non-Pro version of this (same model number: GT-AX11000) and it has been rock solid for 5+ years now.

I would have bought this GT-AX11000 Pro , if it had WiFi 7 [802.11be] speeds.

    • Yep, and start replicating at an exponential rate.

I have one of these and it is reasonably solid, but there are some slightly dodgy wifi dropouts sometimes like the thing has rebooted - networks disappear.
It isn't frequent enough that I've gone too far down the rabbit hole with it and the ususal suspects of "beamforming" being turned OFF seem to settle it down.

New official firmware for the GT-AX11000 Pro came out, about 2 weeks ago (07 NOV 2024).

      GT-AX11000 Pro Firmware version 3.0.0.6.102_34735 | 62.24 MB
      SHA256: 1abfad70749d60568b48dc7b4c45e0e8716b43be1f499df6b5388ce9f4184ae1

I have the GT-AX11000 model and I don't have drop-outs, and the WiFi speeds are very good.

If you want, you can use a channel analyzer to see what other routers are using the same channels as you are.

Also, you can try the Merlin-WRT firmware and see if your have better WiFi experience.

      • Thanks just updated my gt Ax 6000.
Do you recommend a good 4g/5g dongle for using as backup during drop-outs?

        • I would assume wifi drop outs. Generally there would be a fairly quick recovery.

          • @ihfree: Sad several NBN drop out recently due to NBN upgrades happening in the ares

            • @Mortin: Depending on the frequency and your data plan, you could consider a Android phone.

I'm not sure what is recommended now as I haven't had any recent issues - I used a Telstra 4GX modem connected to a ac86u for a period of about 2 weeks when my ADSL line went down.

The FW update to 3.0.0.6 must've happened in the last 3 or so months, because when it was still on the older 3.0.0.4 codebase when I checked around EOFY.

The newer firmware 3.0.0.6 introduces support for VLAN/Guest Network Pro.

        • My ASUS firmware update was in December 2023 and then, the next one was 11-months later in November 2024 !

i had an issue with the GT-AX6000 asus router. As im a gamer and getting kicked mid game was annoying i decided to have a look through the logs on the router. Auto update was enabled and the router was failing the update for some unknown reason causing the drop out. Turned it off and havent had an issue since. Also did the update manually and it worked.

      • I never auto-update any device, let alone my GT-AX11000.
I always manually update the firmware.

The latest GT-AX6000 Firmware [v3.0.0.6.102_34810 ] came out on 11/11/2024

        • it was enabled from default.

      • Thanks for the tip. I've had the same issue and it sh1ts me to death.

Looking at getting the TP-Link Archer AXE75 AXE5400 Tri-Band Gigabit WiFi 6E Router.

Is this one really twice as good since it's twice the price?

    • No. Diminishing returns. The best jump in value is from nothing to a free router.

    • Is this one really twice as good since it's twice the price?

Whatever price you pay, it can all turn to zero, if you don't protect these equipment behind a surge protected power-board.

After making these considerations, I have bias for Asus routers, because they've just been good to me for 20+ years now.

TP-Link make excellent value hardware, but the reason I got into Asus all those years ago, was the availability for custom firmware for my models.

  • How far away are we from WIFI7 being relevent?

    • A long way.

I could still get away with wifi 5 for most of my use.

  • Looks like the deal is finished now.

    • bugger hopefully something comes back next week
