  • I want to get a new pair of these 599's in black but I can't make my ivory ones die. In the past 5 years I've put tennis racquet tape on the headband and I've replaced my ear pads 3-4 times now.

      Sound dead to me

      • Dead?

They still function perfectly. Why throw away headphones if the pads are bad? That's like throwing a car away cause the tyres are bad. Pads are only $20-30 on amazon, or less if you want to wait for Ebay ones. A yearly maintenance cost of $20 on quality headphones seems good to me.

And in that 5 years youve nearly spent the price of these to have a tennis racquet taped up old pair of headphones.

          • @Fergy1987: .. so you'd replace every year instead?
Your logic only works if the padding lasts five years and is only dead now.
            And looks matter

          • @Fergy1987: He's talking about using tape to cover up the peeling synthetic leather (I think?)

I paid a leather worker $60 to replace the leather. It's going to last a lot longer now.

I agree with panda. Could have spent another $65 to get new black ones… But give them a few years and the leather will peel off again..

I had 598 which share the same cable as 599 and found that on both my pairs that cable is made from the type of rubber that sweats out a sticky chemical residue. I’ve also seen this on other cheap items and it’s as annoying as all hell.

At least the 599 have the soft pads. Other cheap sennys I’ve had were covered in that crappy fake leather that easily breaks down leaving tiny black bits everywhere.

For these reasons I’ve decided to boycott cheap Sennheisers as they’re more hassle than they are worth.

Do these not have a detachable cable you can just replace?

    • We need to boycott companies that make products that decay into that sticky plastic or fake leather that crumbles away. Why reward them by purchasing their replacement parts?

  • These or phillips X2HR?

    • +1

X2HRs by far (especially with this current deal being cheaper). Better construction, better materials, better sound, easier to drive and more comfortable.

      • Build quality the Philips takes the win, VERY solid build. But alas it does weigh a lot, if you you wear headphones all day, go for the Sennheiser, your neck will thank you. Philips I use for movies because the bass is much deeper than the Sennheiser.

I own a pair, im not an audiophile but these are great and sound great and I somehow haven't broken them yet in the past 1 or so years of owning them

    • +2

The same - purchased a year ago and they look as good as new with no issues. They required a fortnight to break in or for my hearing to adjust as midrange was muddled, now clear.

Very comfortable to wear for long gaming sessions.

Best of all, does not require a separate DAC for laptop connectivity though I use a cheapie FOSI Q4 anyways until I upgrade later on.

    • They dont "breaK", but the synthetic leather is crappy and will start peeling with repetitive use or a combination of humidity and other factors. If they used real leather or some other kind of fabric, they wouldnt have any issues.

      • well they have been my daily for around 1.5 years now wearing them literally every single day and I have had zero peeling so far.

  • I got these a couple of deals ago (the Amazon 100 one) and at first I couldn't tell the difference.

But after a few months swapping to some older ones its like night and day!
