I have this laptop, it had screen flickering issue with a hdmi external 144hz screen while playing games. Swapping out the hdmi cable with one rated for 8k seemed to have done the trick……

Also don’t bother connecting a display port monitor to it since the signals via dp (over usb c) is routed through the cpu which seems to crash the laptop cos of whatever reason.

    • Sounds like a lemon laptop

    • Some of these gaming laptops have two modes you can switch into. Ms hybrid mode which will mainly use the CPU embedded graphics capabilities as default unless a game turns on the dedicated graphics card. The other mode is discrete, this runs everything through the dedicated graphics card from startup. This problem you have with the Display port only using CPU sounds like its in Ms hybrid mode. I change mine through the laptop manufacturer software that sits in the taskbar. Be warned though Ms hybrid is a battery saving system as it bypasses the dedicated graphics to save battery power so using Discrete mode is only really recommended when it is plugged in.

      • In most laptops, external monitor ports are physically connected to either the dedicated graphics card or the integrated one, which can't be changed via software.

The dynamic switching you're talking about only works for built in monitor.

        • correct, for this laptop the hdmi port is directly connected to the gpu and display port over usb C is connected via CPU.

          • @keishton: My monitor is connected to the DP of a dock, and the dock connects to laptop via USB-C. Are you saying that the GPU will not turn on when it's docked?

            • @kevorulez: No that means when the laptop wants to use the dedicated gpu it passes through the integrated gpu first… which seems fine on paper I guess but from my experience it blue screens after about 3 mins of gaming.

              • @keishton: Thanks. I guess I'll experiment with the difference between USB-C dock and direct HDMI connection when/if I get the laptop. Waiting on more deals end Nov.

    330W AC adapter

Woah seems like an overkill for a 4060.
Wonder whats TGP for this laptop.

Edit: seems to be 140W, which is overkill for 4050-70 imo since they kinda max out around 100W and has very diminishing returns past that point, unlike previous generation 30XX series graphics cards.
They're probably reusing their previous gen 30 series hardware without making adjustments.
They could've adjusted the TGP around 100W, improved thermal, and reduced the size of charging brick…

    • LOL 2.8kg and 330W AC for a 4060

Looks like Dell are just reusing the parts bin specials from the 4080 and 4090 models

The 4060 LOQ was better balanced, 2.4kg and hit $1.2K after cashback

  • Haven't bought a laptop in ages. How does AMD compare to Intel these days? Should i wait for a deal on the G16 with Intel CPU?

AMD cpus are very good, Intel cpu had some recent issues. Would recommend AMD over intel.

    • +1

Generally speaking AMD has the lead over intel, AMD CPU’s top most charts I’ve seen recently

  • Anyone know how this compare to msi katana? They around the same price and both 4060. I don’t know much about laptop

    • If it’s the same price, Dell probably has better warranty support than MSI
