No discounts on normal non-gaming Lenovo laptops?

Black Friday/Cyber Monday at end of month of you can wait.

Think I should, don't need 4060, just need upgrading kid's laptop for school.

        • Just get a second-hand Thinkpad or Ideapad from Cex for peanuts and 5 year warranty.

You can also find replacement batteries online if need be.

  • +2

oh its 13th gen HX series, waiting for comments

    • Whats the news?

  • Hi, anyone knows if this is a gaming laptop? Playing fortnite and valorant. Thanks.

    • +1

4060 seems fine for Fortnite but keen to know more.

      • +4

Will definitely be fine. I've got the older ideapad gaming 3 with a 5800h and rtx 3060. The 4060 will be better with the extra 2gb vram since I ran out of vram for some games at 1080p. 4060 also has dlss frame gen which will improve its longevity since you can boost your frame rates to get more out of it. My 3060 was maxing out the 165hz display for valorant at 1080p

The only thing I would say is check the detailed specs manual from Lenovo. I bought from one Lenovo page on their online store, then found out later there's no mux switch and usb-c doesn't do video output. I think these newer ones have usb-c charging, but designed for charging when not in use. Also check if there's a spare nvme slot as some models don't have a spare for a secondary hard drive.

Also, battery life can be hit or miss and double check the cooling set up. For my use, I disabled CPU turbo because I prefer quieter and lower power consumption. But as I said, I am on the model that is a few generations behind (although I believe and have rebranded the ryzen 7 5800 into a 7730?)

        • Many thanks, very detailed and informative comment. I’m playing Fortnite and keen to know if this machine i5 can handle this game fine. Once again, thanks

          • @catmao: I know my 3060 runs fortnite fine at around 90fps at 1080p. If the newer model has a mux switch coupled with the 4060, you'll get much better fps. Especially since my 3060 peaks at 90w ish

        • Thanks for your helpful message

    • +1

Yes. LOQ/G5000 is a successor to the Ideapad Gaming lineup and is by all intents and purposes a gaming laptop.

    • +2

Spec requirements for Fortnite are super low. It runs on a potato, just how epic designed it to. Even a 4060 and a 5 year old i3 is overkill for Fortnite lol.

300nits is trash, my lenovo is 350nits and I need to use it on the brightness even indoors

    • +7

There are things one have to compromise on for a gaming laptop at this price range. This isnt any different to competitors.

In addition, 300-350nits is pretty normal for desktop monitors and is perfectly fine for indoor usage. Not trying to be mean here, but maybe you are just sensitive to lower brightness or your screen is faulty and isnt actually displaying the max brightness it can sustain.

      • +1

I've got the older ideapad gaming 3 and I end up turning the brightness down from the 300 nits max. 300 nits is plenty as long as you're not using it on a park bench in the middle of summer.

      • i’ve owned and used over 15+ laptops for personal and work and usually my sweet spot is around 75-80% brightness, the lenovo i have is the only one that looks dark unless its on max, this is also being indoors office environment with windows. I can’t explain why but it’s something to keep in mind

  • What's the battery life like on these?

    • like 4-6hrs tops

    • +2

Don't expect battery life on HX processors. These H55 are desktop CPUs implemented on laptops, they need a lot of power, and they are meant to be plugged in.
This laptop only gives a 60wh battery which is insanity, other 16' laptops like rog ones give 90wh and they last…… well, less than 4 hours of video playback.

      • Right, cheers. In the market for a new laptop and still tossing up between just a solid workhorse that lasts forever or going with something like this even though I feel like I'd rarely play anything on it. The scales are definitely tipping towards just a solid office machine.

    Pretty good value

  • 3yrs onsite support is only $77 too, should probably throw that in since it's so cheap.

  • +2

$1218 with 20% (max $250) cashback from ShopBack

  • Anyone have an opinion about the dead motherboard issue that seems to plague the Intel LOQs?

  • Given the 20% cashback, really tempted to get this…
was after the legion 5 slim 14" but it appears to be unavailable on the Lenovo website
    should I just get this?

    • Yes. I bought previous gen Ryzen with otherwise same specs for $1699 about a month ago. Having regrets lol

      • purchased, fingers crossed cashback comes through
        cheers

  • has the price gone back up?

    • Looks like it. Showing final price of $1,868 with the above configuration when I tried.
