Can you hand wash with this?

    • +1

      Yep

    • Yes.

I use this with the foam-cannon and also hand wash, with the 2-bucket wash method.

      • This is the way.

    • Yes.plus dishes

  • Would wash and wax be better than this in terms of protecting paint work?

    • +2

If you only want to use one product, then a "wash and wax" will do the job fine. The wax content in those products is minimal, but it's definitely better than nothing.

A straight wash like this one is better when used in conjunction with a separate protection product (wax or ceramic). It's pH-neutral, so it doesn't clean off the existing protection. But it also doesn't add any protection itself.

      • I have wax from Bowdens but I didn’t know I was supposed to apply every single time i do a wash.

I generally apply fully slick after every wash and then carnauba wax once every 3 to 4 months but I’m no means an expert

        • Wax won't come off after one wash. You just need to re-add it when it's worn-off (and how long that takes depends on many factors).

          • @axyh: So how do you actually tell when it’s come off or do you just guess?

            • +1

@dinglejerry: Water won't bead the same as before (it just kind of sits on the paintwork), and the paint won't feel as "slick" after a wash.

You mention doing a polymer coat over the wax. This could make it harder to tell when it's time to wax again (the polymer itself can cause beading), so there will be a bit of guesswork involved in this case.

              • @axyh: Okay thanks for the info. Is it a good idea to apply fully slick after every wash?

                • +1

@dinglejerry: Honestly, the sealant is unlikely to bond well to the wax, so it's probably better to apply it before waxing, then wax over the top.

But if you like the results, it's fine. It's not going to hurt - it's just not going to last as long as if it was applied under the wax.

                  • @axyh: Yeah I mean I'm just applying it because I can't be arsed waxing the paint all the time. I still do a carnuba wax once every 3-4 months.

I really like this car wash in conjunction with a ceramic coat. It's pH-neutral, doesn't include any waxes that make top-up ceramic coats more difficult, and it does a good job at cleaning off dirt and grime.

But I've never understood why it's marketed as a "conditioner". It moisturizes the car's hair?

    • Hey thanks, I was wondering this. Recently got my car ceramic coated.

    • You answered your own question, it's PH neutral. It's a prewash to remove dirt and also keep the surface ready for whatever treatment you're going to do.

  • Sorry but where does it say this is pH-neutral? Keen to get this as I've got paint protection on my car so only wanting to use pH-neutral stuff.

It's listed on the FAQ on the website (down the bottom):
      https://www.meguiars.com.au/product/gold-class-car-wash-sham…

Which car wash products should I use if my car has paint protection?
Use a pH neutral non wax car wash such as Soft Wash Gel (A2516), Gold Class Car Wash (G7116) or NXT Generation Car Wash (G12619).

It technically cites product code G7116, but that is just the 473ml version of this.

    • There are numerous cheap pH neutral products on the market.

  • Typical - haven't used eBay Plus for ages, so cancelled it (and it ended yesterday ☹️) and that $10 renewal thing doesn't work for me (yet)…
