The Economist Digital and Print 1 Year Subscription A$399.50 (50% off) @ The Economist

80

Economist quality has gone down a bit and is fairly woke. New owners I think. Might change with Trump in the Whitehouse though.

Still a good read with world coverage etc.
Not often u get 50% off. Has been 30% off for lapsed subscribers recently.
Not sure how long this Black Friday deal lasts so be quick.

Note u can probably get free digital copies from your library.

This is part of Black Friday / Cyber Monday deals for 2024

I love their content but I have no idea how anyone gets through a magazine every week. I cancelled after my 50% off year as I only read about half of them.

The audio version takes less effort.

        • skip silence + playback speed 1.35x works for me.

        Terrible mispronunciations sometimes these days.

        Also available via mobilism.

Yeah Economist has gone to crap last few years, still not as bad as The Guardian though.

    Any good digital alternatives?

    • See below. archive.is works for me.

  • Cheaper if you buy it on holiday or student exchange in India :)

    Public libraries- free

$400 aud to read re-written free material by the woke mob. Insane. should be no more than $20 a year.

    • They actually do a lot of original research and the papers etc copy them but it is very slanted these days. I think the parent company got taken over a few years ago.

I subscribe to the podcasts because some of them are interesting - not tooooo expensive.
    Magazine, can't justify the cost.
I read the articles I'm interested either at work or library etc.

Podcast subscription is all I can eat. They read aloud the best articles anyhoo

    It's woke! It's woke!
    Yes Mr Careful, everything's woke.

"Woke" being code for "doesn't parrot far-right lies and BS" or "tries to accurately reflect reality" in this case. Which makes sense given the Economist is a magazine for posh UK buggers that are very much economically right-of-center but don't want to be fed the same lies as the proles in the lower classes.

Anybody who doesn’t worship an orange-hued, (profanity)-grabbing convicted felon is by definition ‘woke’.

So a minority of Americans then…

    • Owned by a collective of Multi- Billionaire families….Agnelli, Rothschilds, Cadbury, Schroder, Layton… And you know those woke billionaires are always trying to ferment revolution among the proletariat.

        Yeah soros has no agenda…lol

        • Since you brought him up what agenda does doros have?

    • Do u even read it bro or are just bitter trump won?

      • I do, that's why I said it. Why don't you go back to referencing Soros for no reason and keep making my point for me.

    Better deal:
    1) copy URL of article.
    2) put URL into archive.is
    3) read
    4) …
    5) Profit!

I subscribe to WSJ, WP and NYT, but The Economist is just too much, and there is not enough I would read.

  • 75% off for students and educators is worth it for me despite not having time to read it regularly, only on the odd flight or long commute.

    • It’s not 75% off for the print version. Maybe the figital. U can get the digital free for a month and repeat….as any izvarvsiner would.

This still worked for me in Dec 2023 - India sub. Never had to use a VPN.

Currently 30% off brings it to $125ish for the digital edition but still a fair whack dearer than it was a year or two ago.
