Exactly the same, mattress sagged, back issues constantly, now changed to a Sealy, back issues gone.

I have a super Firm that has been great, decent topper is required as its as hard as a rock.

Recently upgraded to a King for the new house and went with a quality local brand instead but I don't notice much difference.

I believe a good base is critical for these, if you have a good old hardwood base, with real solid close together slats that don't flex then either this one or the super firm will be great.

If you have some piece of crap fantastic base with bendy plywood slats then these will probably be unconfortable and stuffed in 6 months as it has no support.

A lot depends on your expectations of firmness.

I have one of these (double size) in the guest bedroom. Compared to my firm fully latex mattress, the Zzz Atelier feels incredibly soft and unsupportive. The side/edges are terribly soft and give way; if you sit on the side of the mattress it compresses to nothing. Again, perhaps I am now so used to truly firm mattresses that anything else feels like jelly - but I could never regularly use these myself as my main mattress.

This one really made my body sore after a few months and couldn’t wait for hard rubbish

  • How much space to these take when shipping

About to move house and need an extra mattress, want to minimise the logistic effort

About the size of an office watercooler.

We've had one for probably 4-5 yrs now. It's OK. I wouldn't rave about it, it has started to sag in the middle a bit.

Im 100 kgs, wife isn't lightweight either. So it's probably done a good job. It's pretty comfortable I would say.

Im sure there's better at probably 4x times the price and I may look at soemthing better next time.

  • +1

    I didn't find it good.

Remember that you cannot return it. Return is on buyer's expense. And return cost itself is more than $250 because it cannot be packed the same way hiw it comes (compressed)

Terrible mattress, after 2 years they are shot. I am only 80kg, wife v light. Permanent indentations, made the investment with a sleeping duck 4 years ago and still almost feels brand new.

    • +1

Did you follow the requirements and rotated the mattress according to schedule?

      • Yes multiple times. Don't use this mattress it's cheap for a reason!!!

  • +2

Don't let the negative generic comments fool you. They are fantastic mattresses for the price, and the quality is just as good as they were when OZB decided this brand was the holy grail in circa 2018. I spent a few years at Domayne selling mattresses from the major brands so I have a better understanding than most of what makes a quality one.

Just be aware that if you purchase a pillow top mattress there is usually going to be a body impression the develops over time. Most manufactuers have 'acceptable' limits on how deep this has to be before they will act in terms of replacing it.

To make sure that there isn't a noticeable dip in one area of the mattress I recommend rotating the bed frequently as well sleeping in the middle of the bed if you decide to have a day nap or something.

I've never tried the firm version the mattress, but that does away with the pillowtop layer, so that would also mean the foam would be far less likely to leave a body impression over time. If you found it too firm you could soften it with a overlay.

Finally you must accept the limitation of a pocket spring mattress in the box at this price point. Namely poor edge support, which you can notice when you are sitting on the bed to tie your shoes, and longevity. The support offered by this spring style is very good, and it offers lower partner disturbance but the trade off is a product that you should be looking to replace in 3-5 years. If you are sleeping with a partner and are on the heavier side expect a shorter life cycle especially when compared to the very durable, typically very firm old school Bonnell spring system.

When comparing mattresses in a box, consider the weight, out of the ones I've tried I've usually found to be heavier to be better, and these are on the heavier end of the spectrum. I can't recommend them enough. I'd happily spend 400-500 on one of these and not regret the purchase. Just remember to let it air out for a day or two before you put the sheets on.

I couldn’t agree less. Your post seems to be based on your experience of selling mattresses and may be, trying a non-firm version of this. And it’s misleading people into buying a subpar quality product.

Have you owned one for more than a year and see how it turned out? I have bought two of these and both turned out to be unsleepable after a year and ruined my days with back pain.

I move around fairly often and have had 4 of them over the last 8 years. The medium firm with the pillowtop is the superior product, but people are writing the bed off because the pillow top can degrade and leave an indentation where they sleep. This happens with most pillow top mattresses including the ones that cost several thousands. If it's a deal breaker for you OR you prefer a very hard mattress you can buy the other model.

It's simply a good value mattress that punches well above it's weight. How much did you spend replacing your ZZZ?

        • people are writing the bed off because the pillow top can degrade and leave an indentation where they sleep. This happens with most pillow top mattresses including the ones that cost several thousands.

Is it a better option then to simply buy the extra firm one, and use a topper that can be flipped?

Also, people talked about sagging; is that the same thing as indentation? I had an IKEA one for about 4 years, and by the end of it I felt like falling into Alice's rabbit hole; slowly and endlessly.

had 4 of them over the last 8 years.

From what I gathered here, the sagging starts to hit around the 2 year mark. Sounds like that's about when you got new mattresses.

Is it a better option then to simply buy the extra firm one, and use a topper that can be flipped?

I would say no. The extra firm one is actually a stiffer spring, It's truly extra firm.
I'm about to replace it, even though it's mint condition, because even with a thick topper, hitting the 'rock' that is below it just wakes me up every time I roll over in my sleep.

  • Have a single long bed and not many people still those sizes 😭

Bought a double for $260 six years ago.

    • Still going? Daily use or visitors?

      • +1

Yes I am still using for daily use with a few stains here and there. No complaints from me though.

  • +1

Any idea how the edge support is with this? Box mattresses have never been good for edge support.

    • From all I read above and beyond, not good.

    • It's acceptable.
All boxed mattresses won't have a stiff edge, because that design stops them from rolling, but I've never had it feel lacking in any functional way.

Looked around, there are a lot of similar brands - mainly Dreamz on eBay and Starry Eucalypt on Amazon. Has anyone ever compared them?

    • +1

@tryagain pointed out that the one sold by Dreamz on eBay looks pretty similar to Zzz's old Black Label model, and said s/he may give it a go for some kids mattresses.

      • +1

Thanks for linking to that. Hope @tryagain reports back :)

Hi, anyone used it during pregnancy, is it comfortable/ suitable for a pregnant lady? Thanks

Bought a king in 2020 for just over $300. Was intending for it to tide us over for 3 or 4 months whilst we shopped for a mattress.

It has been fantastic. I love it. Rotate it once every so often. No signs of any issues. I’m about 100kg. Have not found it hot either.

I did read the warranty conditions and they’re a bit sticky with slat spacing etc. luckily have not had to lodge a claim. Reviews on ozbargain were very good at the time.

  • This for $360 delivered on a king mattress or the Ecosa Essence for $560?

  • +1

Had this since my wife and I moved in together 5 years ago.
Hasn’t sagged but our weights are on the lighter side <70kg ea
Side support definitely sucks, if you sit on the edge you will slide off.
We both came from firmer mattresses but this type of bed is better for our style of sleeping - side sleepers as firm beds you have to lay on an angle or your shoulder compresses like crazy
The best part of the bed is if any of us move, the other can’t feel it.
If we ever afford a house, we may get this again or try a super expensive mattress but we wouldn’t go for a mattress in a box other than this brand.

  • +1

As others have mentioned above it seems the older model (maybe pre 2020?) was better quality and the newer model is more prone to sagging.

    got a king size, $331

  • these chinese mattress in a box things aren't worth it imho

i tried a giselle queen for a similar price, had everything, euro top, pocket spings, 7 zones, etc etc

was incredibly comfortable for the first 6 months - then the aches started

another month in i couldn't sleep on it anymore, would wake up within 5 hours and back pain would last all day

imho - spend twice as much and pickup a low tech sealy basic model (advantage), they are always available at 50% off which is around $650 delivered

if you're a back sleeper the firm is incredible, side sleeper go with a pillow top or softer

it will last a lot longer than 6 months!

Mine sagged badly after like 2-3 years. Wife would not tolerate it when we got married, so it had to go :P

I'm not at all a heavy person.

    • +2

      the mattress or the wife?

      • My wife would not tolerate my wife so my wife had to go?
