M2 is still good, but it has been as low as $1,244 in the past.

  • +1

    $1,337 at MegaBuy

    • +3

      that's an elite price

      • which one? so its much better for little more?

        • +7

          i dunno, i just know 1337 = elite

Or get M3 with 16gb instead for about another $70 outlay using GCs direct from Apple if you’re an AOC member ;)

    • aoc ? details please

        • thats means a highschool student can buy/get it ? union as of ? confused

          • @CyberMurning: It's the store for the Australian Education Union - https://www.aeuvic.asn.au/member-benefits/discounts-offers

Anyone can purchase from the store and Apple have (typically) not checked eligibility. I have purchased from this store in the past and not been asked to provide any sort of edu.au details as proof.

            • @Orrelljet: Just claim your partner is a teacher if asked - worked for me, albeit true no proof required

              • @Commodore64: Technically you can also purchase for/as a higher education student - the rules for both this and the normal education store are identical.

                • @Orrelljet: but the kids cant register using her school email address on that union store?

                  • +1

@CyberMurning: I believe the Edu stores are meant for higher education but you don't need to register to buy anyway.

            @CyberMurning:

            union as of ? confused

Can't see any problem here: OzBargain is a union of people educating each other how to get the best deal possible.

    • Tried to configure the m3 with 16gb on that edu link and it’s not $70 more what am I missing

    • +1

do you get discuounts for GCs?

  • +2

Its regularly at this price or less these days.

    • Yeah, will wait for this to go close to $1k

  • +5

That's a lot for an 8/256gb laptop, especially when apple is moving to 16gb as standard, which should give you an indication that this won't be running smoothly for long.

    Two years old… 8GB….
    Nah I’ll pass

  • +2

    NO 16GB NO BUY

  • 8gb of ram. Thats like 6 chrome tabs at once!

My 3 year old phone has more.

    • -2

i heard apple products are okay with 8gb ?

      • -1

the math is 8 apple gigs is 16 real life gigs…

      • Depends on your use case. My old M1 Mac Mini gave me no issues whatsoever with 8GB RAM but I wasn't a heavy user at all.

      • -1

No OS bloatware which helps :)

  • sorry asking for a niece just going into uni first year.
will this one enough for her (m2, 8/256 model).
can get jbhifi giftcard 4.5% off, and then TRS so total damage $1160 only.

    • But why not buy through links above to Apple with discounted Apple GC and get 16gb for same price??

  • No 8Gb

  • +3

Go for minimum 16GB RAM / 512GB SSD on Apple.

For a lot of high school where email, web browser, word processor (i.e. light office work) is all that is needed 8GB RAM 256GB SSD is ok.

Apple silicon runs well with 8GB of RAM due to tight integration of RAM to processor and SSD. So it performs well with heavy usage of swap on SSD. But that means SSD life reduction as storage. When SSD on Apple silicon fails the most straightforward path is completely new computer.

For more than light office use get 16GB RAM 512GB SSD minimum because any less translates into shorter computer lifetime.

    I need that 16.

8 makes me look like I'm living in the past.
