  • Is this a thing? Does it actually work?

Behind-the-ball launch monitors like this one use doppler radar tech and though the cheaper ones usually only have a short-distance higher frequency lower powered transmitter, it is still extremely accurate for measuring the speed (ball and club head speed). So with that info, it can calculate how far the ball will fly. (every company has a different ball flight model so the calculations can vary by few %)

But cheap doppler radar models like this one does not measure ball spin rate or spin axis at all. So it's very inaccurate than the ones that do, especially for mishits and/or shots that do not have a dead straight ball flight. So this kind is sorta useless for short range (like a garage, backyard net etc) unless you only want to know ball and club head speed for speed training. But is still useful providing that extra data while out on the open range where you can actually see your ball flight.

Yes, even pretty accurate compared to high end 20k pmachines

  • It's missing a few measurements that you really want to have to analyse your swing, such as club face angle, low point compared to ball etc.

  • Looking for something that can let me know the dispersion of my shots, not just distance.

Minimum would be the MLM2Pro (<$1k) which is excellent for its price, or go for Mevo+ (~$3k) to get practically Trackman 4 level acuracy and data. Both are great for outdoor range also. If solely indoors (e.g. garage), then either ones mentioned will also work well as long as you have about 5.5m of front to back space and use spin-reading optimized golf balls.

Or if you want more premium camera based monitors for more compact area setup and/or just coz you can afford it, then there are Uneekor Eye Mini, Eye Mini Lite, Foresight GC3, or ceiling mounted ones like QED, EYEXO2 etc..

  • Sorry what do you mean by - Supposedly it can be switched between the two units, unconfirmed though if that's an issue.

    • Imperial or Meric units. (mph vs kph)
