Don’t forget these guys have been banned in USA because they are Russian owned.
Other than that, it’s a great quality AV

    Edit: source https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ceqq7663wd2o

      • +2

Can't find any links to the source code online, are you sure this is true?

Even if so, you don't know the server that your "open source" application is connecting to is running what they say. Would have zero trust in this.

        • Yeah must of confused them with something else. I did find this.

          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaspersky_and_the_Russian_gove…

"On 23 October 2017, Kaspersky announced a "Global Transparency Initiative", under which it would be more accountable for security issues surrounding its products to select countries, and would allow third-party analysts to validate its products and other business practices in order to validate their integrity." It launched a Global Transparency Initiative in 2017, allowing select third-party organizations to review its code and processes in specialized Transparency Centers. This was done partly to address concerns about data privacy and security but does not make the software open source in the conventional sense.

I have no issue with the product and it is priced well.

          • @EightImmortals: Kaspersky is a great product. Unfortunately it's been tagged by both US and UK governments and eventually will be if not already tagged by the AU government. For businesses I'd recommend picking an alternative. But for personal, well f**k the gov! I've been told Bit defender looks like a clone of Kaspersky, and thats a laugh. Kas still is the best solution! Remember Bit Defender comes out of Romania, and human trafficking is rife there. No matter where your software comes from there will always be a cost, some greater than others - as for spy shit thats just a lot of hot air.

And just to remind everyone, events have 3 sides to the truth, your side, their side and the truth!

        Suuuure they are ;)

    • +9

It's probably the best AV in the market, definitely not perfect, but they are much better than many others.

      • +2

one of the best 2 AV's on market, This and Bitdefender are the only AV's I rate.

As far as spying on you, I take it you don't use Google, Facebook, Instagram, Windows and a host of other data collecting programs.

        • Google, Facebook, Instagram, Windows and a host of other data collecting programs

          So f**king true.

Today if your working on something you wanna keep secret use a system that never connects to the internets.

    Still cheaper from SaveOnIT

    • Are they likely to have a Black Friday sale on these products?

    • +1

I used SaveOnIT in the past (2021) and can confirm they were great, quick delivery. Fast response to emails.

      • I also confirm. Renewed for the 2nd year three months ago. Can be reliable and nagging at the same time though.

  • +1

I don't understand why anyone pays for these. And worse, with an ongoing subscription.

Our IT refuses to use Kaspersky, called it "Krapersky".

Windows Defender or free version of AVG, Malwarebytes etc is fine.

    • +8

Your IT refuses it because it is Russian made. It is the best AV.
It catches what Windows Defender fails. Thanks comrades, thanks Putin! lol

    • +10

Refuses to use Kaspersky, but free AVG is fine… Wow, i hope your company doesnt hold any of my data!

    • Strange that your company feels that AVG and Malwarebytes are preferable. I have had major issues from both over the years, but no more.

    • Your IT department sounds negligent.

Not a good deal, might be okay when there is a 50% cashback to stack on top, but it is actually roughly 50% cheaper to buy from a local computer store.

  • Whats the equivalent of what used to be Kaspersky Internet Security?

They keep changing product names its hard to keep up

    • The products have been bundled together and there's some new features. So for example the VPN product is not standalone and is included in the product plan.

    No

    Nice try Putin

    Kremlensky!

Don't see why you'd risk this. Get something based out of literally any other country. If the US don't trust them why should you as an individual?

    • Exactly.

    • +2

They also are banning Chinese car brands - BYD etc. what are the people in Australia gonna do with their Haval, Cherry, BYD cars - asking a serious question. The US thinks in war china will code the cars to stop the engine completely or accelerate fully

    • +5

Why do you trust the USA?

      • +1

Because they already have access to all your data:)

Edit: I'll even provide a source: The Guardian

        • -1

Why do you cite an 11 years old article against current practices…???

      • Most journalists and opposition-party politicians from America and democratic nations such as Australia do not randomly fall out of Windows and succumb to mysterious nuclear, biological or chemical poisoning.
That said Trump could have Elon Musk send them all into space on a Falcon 9+ rocket (Donald special edition) and live stream on X

    • +1

A reason the US does not trust them may be that they refuse to whitelist US made spyware.

So basically you can choose whose spyware is not detected by choosing your AV country.

From a practical point of view, if nation states are interested in you, you have bigger problems than AV can solve.

      • See the US want backdoor(s) into security software products but when software or applications are developed in foreign countries the US can't do sh*t. Proton products are great because the US has no authority over their products.

    Been happy with eset instead

Using nod32 for years. Very unobtrusive with minimal pop-ups etc. Just sits in the background and does it's thing.

      • Eset hasn't been cheap recently. Any tips on where to get it?

      • Been using it for a long time, too. It's got worse recently, though, refusing to whitelist recent false detections.

        It's also horribly expensive now.

      • +1

You can usually find a cheap key on eBay or one of the key sites. Not sure why they are cheaper this way.

  • +1

    i use windings defender

    • this!

  • +12

Kaspersky has major office and software engineers etc in Switzerland which faces/services the western world.

Been like that for a long time

They have been top or very close to top of the detection wazza for many years.

Rarely are they not top or in the top 2 or 3 at AV comparatives.

Definitely one to stay away from
