Discontinued and replaced with an inferior product with yet another confusing name.
Just like they did previously with the Nexus Player.
It’s the Google way.
with an inferior product
How is it inferior?
I'm not sure about being inferior to the Chromecast 4K, but I know a lot of people are complaining that it's barely a step up performance wise, seems to have poor audio support compared to competing streaming boxes, and only has Wifi 5 support.
All pretty disappointing for brand new device, especially given how long the Chromecast 4K has been around for.
I was planning to pick up a Google TV Streamer when they launched, but based on reviews I've decided against it. Now deciding between a Chinese streaming box or a Nvidia Shield.
@jv: They're getting long in the tooth, but more capable than the new Google TV Streamer sadly
I stand corrected.
Will they stop working?
Discontinued, also not a good price sorry.
I agree, Ive got several over the past few years.
The most I paid was $102 3yrs ago & it came with 6mth of Netflix. the others were ~$60.But even Mobiciti had them for $49 back in May

Mine were practically free when they did the Netflix deal.
i think Netflix was $16/mth back then, if so $102 for $96 is close. although you could get 10% gc easily so $102 for $86 Netflix+ Chromecast
and no bloody ads!
OOS already? Damnit I just signed up for trial. $99 for me but it was lower.
So wait and they should go down more soon? I need two :( to replace my two Telstra tv boxes :( rip
Telstra tv boxes
But I thought everyone was Hubbling??
I have two of these, and both have become so laggy recently.
- Apps just randomly crash — especially when the screensaver gets activated. I suspect this is because it's running out of RAM. I have the screensaver disabled.
- They only have 4GB (I may have an older version? — Their naming convention is confusing.) of space and were running out of space to install anything more than a few apps. I had to recently add external USB storage to them.
- HDR10+ support on my Samsung TV has been very flakey.
I think it's expected, people were complaining that they were already underspec'd on release.
I'm looking waiting for a bargain on the streamer box.
and both have become so laggy recently.
Mine still works fine.
Have you tried clearing the cache?
I've got three. I rarely suffer those problems. a quick power cycle fixed any lag or firce stopping an app fixes individual app lags (that's an app issue not device as Disney is the worst and it happens on my tablet too, but only once or twice a month).
I'm not sure what apps you've installed to run out if room. 4k h.265 videos stream on Plex without a hiccup.
same as you, streams 4k from jellyfin. never had a problem with the apps lagging or freezing and my smart tv can be controlled by the little controller so I have power on/off and volume controls on it as well. I can also turn my tv on via voice (google home) and remotely.
It will be a sad day when I have to replace it.
🤷 Maybe I'm just using it wrong.
I had to expand storage because it came up with insufficient storage when I wanted to install apps. I've triple-checked the app list to see if there's any I could remove, but there was none.
Well, I guess it's only meant for users who only use a few apps or just as a head for a Jellyfin/Plex server.
@FirstWizard: Just checked mine and I'm at 3.3gig so I think you're correct. I have all the streaming services apps but not much else so maybe they did under spec it.
that being said, do you really need that many apps?
So true! It’s seriously underpowered, I even tried a factory reset, but it still felt like it was in slow motion. I ended up buying the newer TV Streamer 4K, but I wasn’t fully satisfied, so I returned it and got an Apple TV 4K 128GB for $30 more but worth every penny. Honestly, I’m amazed at its performance. Every click and transition is so smooth, completely on another level. Plus, it integrates perfectly with our home ecosystem!
User error. Do some research.
I recently purchased the Walmart Onn 4K TV Pro, a USA exclusive, through eBay US for AU $116.82 / US $75.20, delivered within 15 days. This one supports WiFi 6, has an Ethernet and USB Port, and is bundled with an HDMI cable, Bluetooth remote, and Google Home as native functionality. I am glad I bought this over Google TV Streamer.
Would you mind sharing the link you bought from, please?
The one I purchased shows sold out but here's a link from another seller
