If you're going to spend this sort of money buy a petrol pressure washer. I purchased a similarly expensive one to do our large driveway. After a year or so it failed and took it to the repair centre. The guy explained that these electric home units are only designed to run for 30 mins or so at a time.

Petrol units on the other hand can run all day. When it failed again (this time out of warranty) purchased a petrol ryobi (subaru engine) from bunnings. 10 years later hasn't missed a beat. And cost around $500 at the time.

Is $640 for the washer a bit high?

    • -1

For these models yes it's expensive they're being discontinued for a water cooled pump version which Bunnings has.

There is no perfect electric pressure washer but on all katchers it's the hoses, they tangle, kink and twist and it's bloody annoying. They're also not 15m which is the length you need to wash a car.

Unfortunately you can't upgrade the hose to a proper one unless you import one at $300 which has quick connect connectors. For this reason it's a 4/10 for Karcher. you can upgrade to a stubby gun with quick release but it's a $220 upgrade.

If it's for drive ways then you're in petrol territory look for 16L/min or more. Most run sabre.

      • The upgrade part is incorrect. You can definitely upgrade it to a quick connect with a $10 connector. I have done it. The Pipe was $150 from MD car care.

        • Quick release or quick connect?
Quick release is what most pressure washers use for attachments.
Quick connect is the connector on the Karcher hose.

The K7 compact has the premium 10m hose, it might turn a bit but significantly less than previous units I've owned. It certainly does not kink, I have one and its great. Plenty long enough to wash a car (Amarok)

        • +2

An Amarok is 5,350 mm length and 1,910 width.

This means the hose would need to be 14.52m to get around the car.

In detailing we require a 15m hose as said as you'd never have the pressure washer against the car.

          • @[Deactivated]: I'm going to be pedantic here. Should base the hose length required on wheel base and track, plus a margin away from the vehicle. Not on body exterior dimensions. Since the hose will sit on the ground, not wrap around the vehicle. That will be somewhat less than 14.52 m.
But if you pull the hose tight it'll jam under the wheels. grrr.
            We must unburden our past.

haha right after i shared it with you

  • Actually, you can upgrade the hose for Karcher pressure washers, and the difference is substantial. I recently upgraded my K5 with a 50ft (15m) anti-kink Uberflex hose paired with quick connect fittings, costing about $115. You can find it here: Amazon link. This hose makes a significant improvement over the OEM one; it's much easier to handle, doesn’t tangle or kink nearly as much, and provides ample reach for washing a car without having to move the unit around constantly.

It’s true Karcher is moving toward water-cooled pump models, which Bunnings already stocks, so this might contribute to some models being phased out. There’s no perfect electric pressure washer, but with some upgrades like this, the Karcher K5 can be a lot more convenient.

And while the stubby gun upgrade is an option, it’s not essential for everyone, and the cost might be a factor. If you’re after a machine for driveways, a petrol-powered unit with at least 16L/min is the way to go, as these will handle that level of work more efficiently.

Hope this helps anyone considering their upgrade options!

    • Can you please relink the amazon @hast ?

    • The Karcher website says the K7 Compact is water-cooled though? And it looks to be identical? Basically all their pressure washers are listed with a water-cooled motor, K4 and up, but that new Bunnings one isn't on the site. So..wha?

  • Link to uberflex 15m hose https://amzn.asia/d/bH8naHg and quick connect fittings https://amzn.asia/d/9sOpBPd.

Over the weekend, I washed two cars and was able to walk all the way around each car without needing to reposition the Karcher unit once. The hose stayed kink-free the entire time, making the job far less frustrating.

  • I'm in the market for a pressure washwer.

May I ask, what sort of pressure washer would people recommend - with a 15m hose ?
