  • Might be a solid option to run your own VPN.

Their LA looking glass is posting some good speeds back to Aus.

FYI, if you post in the Low End Talk forum they’ll double your bandwidth

DOUBLE YOUR BANDWIDTH ON ALL 11.11 DEALS - just comment below your order # within this thread, and we'll double up your bandwidth allocation!

Not using Racknerd currently, but have in the past with no issues. The West Coast US locations (San Jose) are pretty good last I checked if you want a decent connection to east coast AU.

They always run promos on Black Friday / Cyber Monday too. Unsure if they’ll be better, or just similar plans with slightly different balances between RAM/Storage/Bandwidth. Racknerd especially do a lot on Low End Talk over that weekend with very limited flash sales etc, if you’re so inclined. Picked up a few free 6 or 12 month plans in the past with their Black Friday thread.

Lastly, if you look at their past New Years and Black Friday deals, I believe the listings are still there and include Ryzen 7950 based plans which are pretty good for anything that benefits from single thread performance (e.g. Wordpress).

    • Agree re: past listings - I signed up to one of the 2023 BF deals and accessing the link gave me 20min before it 'expired'

    Purple Daddy

  • Looking to get a VPS myself.

Apart from personal VPN, what else are such low end VPS good for ?

A light Email server, database server, serving the occasional dynamic webpage, hosting a 2 player minecraft server. You could do pretty much anything you could do with Big Iron, just serving fewer clients.

    • I'm planing to run an email server on mine

      • Curious as what can you do with an email server?

        • I have my own domain. Currently have email hosted with a specific email provider, I've now configured a VPS to host email for my domain.

  • Any budget aus vps that ozb can recommend?

Never used them myself, but heard good things about https://www.binarylane.com.au/. AU company hosting in the region.

There’s then some options of international companies that offer hosting within AU.

Asia, including Australia, is pretty exy but on the whole compared to many other regions. Bandwidth in particular. If you’re looking for the absolute lowest prices, probably need to look at another region.

Don't need much resources = binarylane

Need a lot of resources = buy an optiplex sff and leave in your garage/attic/wherever

There are no cheap Aussie vps unlike the USA.
