NOKIA Portable Wireless Speaker 2 Cloudy Blue, $15.26 ($14.89 with eBay Plus) Delivered @ oz.squares eBay

470
PRES15PRES17

Excludes NT, QLD Far North, WA Regional, WA Remote.

Even cheaper than last time with the coupon codes applied. I've been using this for about 2 weeks now, sound quality is average since it's only 5w but the battery life does live up to its claims.

Other complaints are that if you're using it in the dark it's a little hard to feel where the power button and volume adjustment buttons are. Otherwise, good value speaker for the money.

  • Powerful 5W sound with high-quality mic technology for crystal-clear calls
  • Rechargeable battery with an impressive 22-hour life – perfect for extended playlists and conference calls
  • IPX7 Waterproof rating – withstands submersion up to 1 meter for 30 minutes
  • Eco-friendly design – 100% recycled outer shell, TUV-accredited

Grabbed this last time it was on sale - it honestly sucks, sound is awful for the weight and size. Go another brand

    • +3

works OK in stereo mode TBH

    • +2

Yep dissapointing but ok at this price. Sound a little better if you place them on a cabinet or hollow surface.

    • -1

Its a Nokia. They couldn't survive at much higher prices. They're not going to be doing an ok job at this price point.

      • -1

It's about on par with the cheap ebay/aliexpress bluetooth speakers that are the width of a 50c coin

    • But is it indestructible. That’s what I needa know

      • +1

Not sure, but it doesn't feel high quality and looks very prone to filling up with dirt and crud

    • -1

thanks for your review, saved $15 from getting another crap speaker

  • +1

reading the description, is this intended to be used as a speakerphone moreso than for music?

  • +2

Damn, I paid $5 too much last time

    • -3

      So it's itshay?

      • +1

They're actually alright for quite listening in the office when paired in in TWS mode. As in you won't get better for $15/$30 ..

  • +4

I bought one in the last deal. The BT range is awful!. Audio starts dropping out when speaker is 4 meters from my phone..

    • +4

I don't think these were intended to be used from a distant range. First of all they are small. They calim 5 watts, but 5 watts is actually huge when it comes to audio. They are likely intended to be used at 1-2 watts, 3 watts max.

Playing music on a decent speaker system at 5 watts per channel a channel would likely result in noise complaints from neighbours. COmpanies come out with all sorts of figures like '800 watts' - yeah right… a vacuum cleaner uses that much and overheats in 10 mins, lmfao. Motors are pretty much the same as speakers, just structured differently.

      • If you say 5 watts is huge, a 100 watts sound bar would be 20x louder.

        • It's not huge, but 5 watts per channel in stereo is pretty big. On a decent bookshelf speaker set-up, 5+5 watts is enough to fill your house with sound.

When they say that a sound bar is 100 watts, I highly doubt they mean RMS - but peak. Do you know how much heat would be generated by 100 watts passing through a speaker's voice-coil (which is an electromagnet or a bunch of wound copper wire)? It would quite litirally need a cooling solution to not blow up.

In electronics, whether it's lights or electromagnetic devices like speakers and motors, A LOT of energy is lost as heat. Even LEDs which are very efficient produce too much heat when ran under a high wattage for extended periods (even 1 minute). That's why most high powered LEDs have cooling fans.

These Nokia speakers are realistically only going to be using 1-2 watts each when operating - anything more than that and they will distort. If they had a deep bass response, I would believe a claim of 5 or 10 watts, but that's simply not possible with such a product. They just produce mid to high frequency sounds, which sound 'louder' anyway than the lower end stuff (bass).

I actually chuckle when I see companies claiming their sh*t is 1000 watts - yeah right, a small concert probably dumps 1000 watts of electricity into their speakers RMS.

Don't believe me? Go look at a vacuum cleaner (which is a giant electromagnet, which is what a speaker's voice coil is) after 5 minute of running at 2000 watts - the air it blows out is hotter than a hair-dryer. If it wasn't for the air cooling the motor, it would burn up really fast.

Anyway, speaking of sound bars, I had a samsung Q60C sound bar a while back, and was rather surprised by how great and flat the frequency response was when I measured it with a pro calibration mic.

          • @BargainHunterJohnnyB: I guess the wattage here refers to how strong the sound it can produce rather than the power consumption it takes or the efficiency. The power rating might be more or less.

Some sound bars come with 2, 4, 6, or more speakers. Each speaker can be rated as 5w/10w/20w, etc.

My desktop pc speakers have 2x 60w. The sound is actually more than enough to fill my room.

For outdoor, I'd expect at least 10w and more for the noisy environment. It also depends on the built-in amplifier.

            • +1

@bcYield: Yeah, but you wouldn't run a 5 watt speaker at 5 watts.

My audiophile wharfedale speakers are rated at over 100 watts each - I would piss my neighbours if I played them at actual 10 watts per channel, let alone 30 or something.. the cops would get called at that point.

When you play your PC speakers to 'fill your room', they are likely only consuming 5-10 watts each channel. If they were using 60 watts each channel, they'd burn.

Let's say you have a '100 watt speaker' - you pump 100 watts into it and 5 watts turns into vibrational/sound energy, then rest becomes hear. Do you realise that a 95 watt CPU requires a pretty massive cooling solution? What will a speaker do?

the once mighty powerhouse of mobile communication..
    Immortalised in 'The Matrix'.
    Reduced to tinny speakers
    It is Finnish

    • Owned by MS now. Apple killed off most of the big phone co's, only the big multi industry companies like Sony, Samsung and a few others made it.

Good for Secret Santa/Kris Kringle presents!

Wonder how this is compared to the joel osteen bt speaker we got for $1 donation?

  • Spend a few $ more and get the Anker sound core mini.

  • +2

Other complaints are that if you're using it in the dark it's a little hard to feel where the power button and volume adjustment buttons are.

That's an understatement - the buttons are very hard to see unless the unit is in a very well lit location.

Still a great buy at this price if you can live with that.

    • Just find the port cover ridge, its the first button to the right of it.

  • +3

I got one in the last deal, hard to complain at the price it is! Some points have been made about the buttons etc.

Also worth noting it supports microSD playback and 3.5mm aux (can't believe that's a feature nowadays)

  • +1

This speaker is actually good IMO - I mean yeah but the bass sucks, but what do you expect from 1.5 - 2 inch drivers?

    • +3

Not sure what these people are listening to, but SQ is far from awful. I played The Stooges Like a Dog which had muddy and faint lows given its size and some distortion but was overall ok. Vletermx - Autechre was good but had clipping in high range and again faint lows. Autumn leaves - Chet Baker made this little thing shine and sounded great. Inside with some walls to bounce off captures the sound better but outside doesnt carry. Tested BT range to about 5 - 7m before it got spotty. BT call quality was great though I forgot to test mic range, sorry. For the $17 I paid, with the added aux and SD card slot Im gonna load with a card and chuck in Im very happy.

Might upIoad a video when I get the 2nd to try stereo mode. I suggest finding the right style of music for it, midrange and treble style music (folk, jazz, . Just thought I'd give my 2c for all the people maybe judging it a bit harshly, given its price.

      • For the price these are great speakers, especially when you combine 2.

  • Nokia - From connecting people… To "Connecting Speakers"

  • +3

This is a perfect beach/picnic speaker.

You are listening to the wrong genre if you are not happy with the quality at this price point

  • -1

It's only barely worth $15. The sound quality is awful.
