  • 1TB is $85 at Centrecom if that's local for anyone and they prefer that: https://www.centrecom.com.au/wd-blue-sn580-1tb-pcie-gen4-nvm…

Hold for a while. It's gonna be $69 soon. I can see the premier price is now $69 and usually it will become a promotional price for all

      • Any deals on the 4TB ones coming?

      • Do you have any idea when will it be $69, can't hold too long, my Mac mini is coming soon.

        • +1

I am not even sure if it will be $69. I made that guess based on what they usually do. You may spend $49 to get premier membership if you really need this. They will give you $30 voucher immediately but there is a min. spend of $80 or $100 I can't remember.

Otherwise I wouldn't recommend anyone to purchase that CCC membership

        • Usually after 1 to 3 weeks if they think the exclusive price is like an early access. However, there were some times the premier price never becomes non-exclusive price

  • How important is DRAM to have in a boot drive?

    • Not very anymore it seems - HMB gets mentioned as meaning dram isn’t needed except for constant file transfer / video editing etc

    • Not as important as having good NAND chips in the first place, especially TLC at a minimum.
QLC SSDs are better used as an HDD cache, since even QLC drives are still faster than HDDs, as long as the files stay within the cache (which is most file transfers anyway.

    • Depends on how good the HMB / Flash is.

In this case it's paired with 112L TLC which is perfectly fine.

  • I've been eyeing this to upgrade for my laptop, but I already have a boot drive. Would this still be suitable just for storing amount of large files/gaming? (planning to store loads of 1080p vids + a decent amount of steam games)

    • I have the same question.

    • Don't see why it wouldn't be

  • Decent boot drive? Need something for my daughters build.

  • Still sucks that the $149 deal sold out on Centre Com, since there is both free delivery and an Adelaide pickup there.

  • Why not the pny cs2340 from this deal?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/874327

It's TLC and 7000mb/s for the same price

Because OP is already telling you it's a dud deal:

I can find basically no details or reviews of this drive, even PNY don't list the controller or memory type, so I suspect it's lottery in terms of what you get.

The only SSD's with no reviews are those where the manufacturer is scared of the truth and does not want a searchable trail

In terms of part swapping shadiness, Silicon Power are top tier with PNY not far behind

  • Would love a 4Tb version of this at $250ish

  • Now showing $169

    • They must be playing pricing games, shows as $165 for me.

  • So is this good value for money for a boot drive?
I'm looking to build a new budget rig so I can pass on my current one to my son.
