Update Nov 7 9:30am: Officeworks has increased the price, so price-beat available again.

    • Do you really need 90/120hz+ for a daily driver laptop? You ain't high refresh gaming on this.

Is smoother nicer? Sure. Required? No. At this price should they? Absolutely. But a dealbreaker it is not.

      • Yes down the list of importance for me personally.

      • +3

        need 90/120hz+
Peobably not, but we pay $1700 so is it expected? Yes

      • newer M4 PRO with a bigger display (14) and 120 Hz screen cost 2500 however also 25-30% faster
not sure the current deal is a bargain

  • +6

    512GB of storage?

Stop saying 'it's plenty for a Mac'. Memory storage are dirt cheap and Apple source them even cheaper from PC manufacturers. There's no excuse for such tight arse specs.

    • +1

Well… it’s been 256gb base spec for solong on Macs that I think we all have a version of Stockholm syndrome. But you’re 100% correct.

The new M4 mini in its base configuration is a bargain. But to get to usable specs it is terrible. I dream of the day that Apple doesn’t rip us off for usable specs.

  • just picked this up thanks!
Bonus if you use OnePass, as Flybuys has 5% bonus Velocity points if you do manual transfer.

  • +1

Don’t forget your Perks vouchers aswell.

    • or ultimate gift cards : ) for 10-15% further discounts

  • +1

Wow - thanks! Just picked up from Officeworks Richmond for $1,704.30 - very happy with that!!

    • Any left?

      • It said “3 left” just before I picked up. But it still says “3 left”. 🤷‍♂️

        • Thx I’ll try in the
          Morning

          • +2

@deviant: I picked one up at Richmond this morning

    • +1

Great laptop - but still 32% more expensive ($550) than this deal. It would want to be a lot better.

    • +1

Depends on your use case… What are you doing on it? For me, MBP all day every day as I'm running the full Adobe CC Suite, so very much utilise the additional performance. For 90% of people, they probably won't notice the difference.

      • How well will the MBA run using Photoshop and Lightroom editing? Still tossing up between a laptop and a PC (something like a pre-built system from nebula with a 4060ti).

        • +2

I went from a fully tricked out PC to MBP M1 Max and it was game changing. That millisecond delay used to annoy me on he PC. They can’t keep up with the Apple Silicone chips.

Recently I tested LR on my partners new MBA 15 and it’s alright but you do start to notice the difference with larger catalogues when moving between images on the Develop module compared to the instantaneousness lf the MBP.

Every time the new MBP models come out, I want to upgrade from FOMO but my MBP still does everything instantly. As AI becomes more prevalent in editing, I might see reason to upgrade but currently my M1 Max MBP smashes the Adobe Suite.

    • Can anyone access AOC, or you need to verify your education link? Are these posts just for educators?

  • +1

    Awesome, thanks!

Although unhappy with my purchase experience of the 'renewed' M2 air from JB a few months ago, I have been very impressed with the laptop itself. Managed to get the OW pricebeat and the M2 will be on Marketplace shortly.

  • Seriously, what's the best way to go about this? Apple GC's from Qantas Market place or another GC with 2-3 X points or go to Woolies and stock up on something usable at OW?

    • -1

Would like to know too. I bought Apple GC with the 20x flybuys for 10% off. If only Apple price matched

  • +1

Price matched in store. Picked up one from OW Underwood. Was showing 3 blue in stock, so maybe 2 left.

  • +1

    Can’t decide. I think I want a larger screen?

I was all set for an M4 Pro 14” but this is too good

    • I'm in same boat, it's for my mum and I think bigger screen is the reason I held off. I really don't mind paying an extra 500 or whatever so mum has a better laptop experience over the next 7 years. Would also like the 24gb ram option too

Gonna wait for the other BF sales.

      • You have 30 days to return it if unopened.
I’m not going to miss out on this apple clearance deal,
but if something wild should happen with the new m4’s on Black Friday or Cyber Monday,
then you can take it back for a refund and grab the better offer.
Personally I doubt there will be anything better, but I can hold off cracking the seal for a few weeks..

        • You do realise this ‘clearance’ price can be h had anytime direct from Apple just using the right website and one of the regular GC deals from Woollies or Cole’s? For those that could use base M2, they could spend $1250.

          • @Fancydancer: No I didn’t know that , lots of stuff I don’t know .
Kinda suspected, I just have some gift cards from a previous deal that make this an awesome price for me.
They are selling out in JB though and I would expect
OW to run out aswell with the cheaper price , but I don’t know OfficeWorks stock levels .

    • +3

Holding for Pro at JB 10% off Macs. $450 extra for M4, better sound, screen, webcam, cooling, ports, etc. tough call though!

      • +1

Yep, really talked me into it. That’s Pro. For a device that lasts at least five years, it should be fine to spend an extra $500.

BTW, does JB have a tradition of offering 10% off on new release products too?

        • +2

10% seems to come around regularly and does sometimes fall across new Mac releases. It’s been a while, I’m hopeful the Black Friday might be the next one.

      • +1

Yep, I’m gonna wait. You’ve convinced me.

Hoping this will last me 10 years.

        • -1

          same
to be honest newer M4 PRO with a bigger display (14) and 120 Hz screen costs 2500 however also 25-30% faster
thus not sure the current deal is a bargain

          • @vladsyd: Was a bargain two weeks ago before announcements. Now available anytime direct from Apple of you know what you’re doing.

      • better sound, screen, webcam, cooling, ports, etc.

Those are some great points, but at the same time, the Pro is heavier, thicker, and clunkier compared to the Air. The Air has a thin, light, and fast feel that's hard to match.

        • Agreed, if I only had one device I’d go this but my iPad is mostly for travel and laptop mainly roams the house and docks at the desk.

  • I noticed both Good Guys and Officeworks have now matched the price. Does that mean no more price 5% price beats?

    • +2

      Still $2097 on Officeworks website.

      • that's what I'm seeing as well?

    • +1

Just ordered from Officeworks with price beat.

  • +1

wishing it was for 15 inch as well😭

  • +1

Sorry guys, i am new to ozbargain. And i am kinda new to Au. I didnt get how can we get extra discount after matching the price.

    • +2

officeworks price matches and then reduces by another 5% for eligible items, hence ‘price beat’

    • +5
      • Go to officeworks, ask them if they will beat the price on offer from another store.
      • They’ll ask for proof so just show them the cheaper price from the other store.
      • They’ll do their own online search to make sure it’s a price that everyone can obtain, and not just something that is targeted to you only, and not a coupon deal, and to make sure it’s the exact same model/item that they sell.
      • If all good then they will sell it to you for 5% less than the other store.
      • If you have them, pay for the now discounted item using Gift Cards that you had bought previously at a discount
      • You walk away happy knowing that you bought the item for a discounted price using discounted gift cards
      • You become addicted to OzBargain and spread the word, and contribute to the community with your own deals or tips :-)

All the best and happy bargain hunting, and welcome to Australia and OzBargain!

Got this price beat in-store at Fitzroy OW this morning. Thanks OP!

    • And another one at Fitzroy OW. Cheers OP!

  • So is there any way to get the OW price beat if this is out of stock in store? All my local stores are OOS.

    • The OW guy that did my price match just said "just tell me loudly that JB has it in stock locally".

Best experience ive ever had at OW, all previous experiences they made me feel like i was doing something illegal by price matching.

    • Hmm. I was able to pricebeat with a neighbouring post code. Try Penrith if you're in NSW.

  • why do we have match the price with OW? we can pay with JB Gift Cards (from CBA, Westpac, NRMA, ART, etc) where they offer 5% discount it will boil down to same price.

    • more hassle to go buy gift cards for the same thing

    This or M4 Mac Mini

    • +2

Mac Mini better value but one is portable, one isn’t

      • -2

        Both are portable

        • +2

One requires separate keyboard and screen and mouse one does not.

          Sure it’s portable but it’s a faff

  • +1

Officeworks still haven’t matched, deal still valid!

  • -3

m2 air $699usd at bestbuy US better deal

    • Less memory/storage.

  • A small digression …

    Query for Apple MacBook enthusiasts:

Is the Apple MacBook Air completely, absolutely and totally silent?
As in NO fans of any kind to be heard.

Planning to gift myself one for Christmas but need to be 101% silent, totally quiet.
Doesn't matter the model, doesn't matter the price. Has to be silent, has to be portable. Has to be dead silent.

    Thank you.

    • 99.9% silent 😎

      • -1

Thanks … not silent enough then :-(

        • I would say 100% silent - i've never noticed noise from my M1 MBA or MBP(when fans aren't running).

One morning I had my PC shutdown and was just using my MBP and was surprised at how much quieter it was.

          • @ihfree: silent bro never heard the fan

            • @Mijora1: There is no fan in the MBA and the MBP fan while quiet would likely be audible in quieter environments

              • @ihfree: Yes that is the issue.
Some people will not hear a thing whilst others do.
Unfortunately I do hear and hate those fan noises.

                • @LFO: To be clear, there is no fan in the Macbook Air.

The fan noise I mentioned on the MBP is only under a heavy workload.

                  • @ihfree: Yes, even my current desktop is reasonably quiet but becomes a roaring one when video editing or any other heavy workload.

So, the MacBook Air is 100% silent? Even under heavy workload?

                    • @LFO: What part of the MBA are you expecting to make noise if there's no fan?

                      • @puffinfresh: The "No Fan" part is what I am trying to assess. Most are very very very quiet when idle … only when idling.

So the MacBook Air is 100% silent?

                        • @LFO: Mine is on the way still, but there are literally no moving parts so there's nothing to make noise.

Unless there's some minor electrical whine? Maybe that's why someone said 99.9%?

                        • @LFO: I put my ear right to my MBA last night and couldn't hear anything - YMMV.

                    • @LFO: Never heard any noise from it. It's not used for anything heavy

    • No, you'll need ad iPad (or a tablet) for that feature.

      • Thank you.
Yes I have an Apple iPad already and "love" its silence.

Dreaming of a notebook/laptop offering the same blessed silence.

  • Is it better than Window portable personal computer? My friend said, Window better because software cheaper or even free especially expensive software like $500 - $1000 video editing on Mac and $300 for office microsoft when you can get all this for free on Window personal computer from special website. My friend also have special sound software and video software on Window personal computer for free but on Mac, he said cost $1500 only software. He said Mac is only for rich people and Window is good for poor people and middle class people and just as good. Like Android, Window is free and can do anything. If people can get all this for free on Window, why they buy mac? Also no upgrade, part fail, then you go broke repair cost is high but Window change part cheap from eBay.

    • +1

Sorry but where is Windows free? Laptops generally always come with an OS, so Mac is also 'free' in that sense that it comes with an OS.

Your friend needs a reality check. He clearly has special or specific use cases that makes sense for them for windows. Sure no worries. However you need to decide what you need out of a computer. I would not say they're 'only for rich people'. Some people argue the higher upfront cost comes with longevity in hardware/software updates in that the hardware stays solid/fast etc for its entire lifecycle (less so than a bogged down windows install but again this is highly dependent on the user, and hey reinstalls/resets are a thing).

Mac also has built in basic video/photo editing software that is also completely free.

It's really up to you to work out what's value to you. Newer windows laptops 90% of the portable/slim models also CANNOT be upgraded, though some offer an m.2 slot, most have their RAM soldered just as a mac. This may change long-term. This may not. Sounds like your friend is thinking 10+ years ago.

  • Hit up JB Hifi for a lower price seeing I could order it at Officeworks. They couldn't match the 5% but they did drop it down to $1775.

  • So you can actually just call up OfficeWorks and get it for $1,704.30 by next day Click & Collect, or delivery.
They price beat on the phone, no issues at all.

  • Hey guys, bought one for the Mrs, which mouse do you guys recommend for studying/work? My mouse are for gaming so not sure what should I recommend. Cheers

  • Bought one ,
A few store’s have sold out.
    Get in quick.

    • Or just use discounted gift cards through AOC anytime?

  • OW now same price as JB.

  • Thanks, bought one with price beat. OW person on the phone mentioned the price was about to be adjusted

  • Party's over Ow price matched.

  • +1

Just buy at jb with discounted giftcards, 10% off would be closer to $1600.

    • Where do we get that 10% off JB gift cards?

      • The forums (people) are always selling giftcards for 10%off .

    • Most gift card platforms offer a maximum of 5% off at JB Hi-Fi. A 10% discount is not readily available and is unrealistic.

      • What? Regular options on sale at both Woolies and Coles. Just minimal planning required.
