How do I tell whether they are for men or women? I am asking because my mom needs a watch.

    • +1

No filter for gender, I'm guessing Edifice is all mens! I guess the old school way: use a PC, look for smaller sized ones and check if it suits :(

Casio does have a gender filter. Plus there is a separate category called Womens and of course Baby-G included in the Black Friday Sale.

      • What defines a gender watch, though? Maybe their mum would appreciate a large dial or display that's easier to see or she's a keen outdoors person and would appreciate a chunky, well-protected watch. Not all women want a dainty, pretty watch.

        • +1

Yes hence why I asked them to search by size so they might find something a mum would like, even in the edifice series.

I agree, I like women wearing watches with large dials. Way better than those small dials you'd have to squint. Off course not all women want to dainty, pretty watch.

        • What defines a gender watch, though?

          you mean watch gender?

I think women like the ones which are simpler. the ones with super complicated backgrounds look more impressive for men. like "check this out mate" another man "whoaaah".

men can wear the simpler ones though, but doesn't work as well the other way around women wearing the ones with complicated messy super gadget appearance. just my opinion people won't often say this kind of thing because these days it's seen as misogynistic or bigot.

          • @n3ck3ntry8bort0rgasm: I'd like to see the time, thanks. Is that allowed now? Lol.

            • @Geekomatic: be careful if you are one gender and wear the watch of another gender you will get cancelled by angry twitter/X mob that just throw as much shit as possible and see if any of it sticks.

        • +1

Yeah, check out an episode of Antiques Roadshow some time. Fiona Bruce always wearing a white Chanel J12 ceramic, in what appears to be 38mm size.
Looks pretty chunky but it might be the whiteness of it.

          • @Speckled Jim: Such a beautiful watch for a women though, love it.

          • +1

@Speckled Jim: Mate, Mrs C points that out to me all the time. I've looked it up and it's Grand Seiko prices, so I've told her that when we can afford the Chanel then I'm definitely getting a GS!

            • @Chazzozz: Well in that case, the rest of you needs to match up to a GS. I wonder if there is a similar forum for rich people who can afford GS and Chanel.

            • @Chazzozz: AliE has some passable homages. The only way to find them easily is using image search.
I did that but didn't buy. The his & hers pairing was uneven in quality, from two different sellers and one of the them had 86% feedback.

      mum

    Sorry watch nerds

there's more than one of them??

    • Ofc mate, I saw the Hamilton deal posted two days ago, was called a bargain at $500 delivered, Swiss movement automatic.

      • +2

If I want to be picky, I dislike the missing second hand. With automatic, you can't easily tell whether the watch is working or not without it .

      • oh my, I just looked at the Hamilton and it is awful. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/874356
and it should be like 34 mm or something. Looks like a big old brass dinner plate on your wrist

        • lol wut?

  • +3

This green sport with sapphire glass is beautiful… must resist lol.

    • I know. I'm holding out for the Orient automatic in Green, recent deal was close to this price for an automatic. Plus that was a beautiful watch.

Plus on this one, the dial isn't symmetrical, cut at angles, I don't even like it anymore

      • Which Orient are you referring to? I can't justify buying another watch at the moment. Just finished adjusting the bracelet of the one that was delivered yesterday lol.

    • +1

      Aye, that DOES look schmick!

    • PRX clone. Don't like it.

    • +1

Agreed! Watched a tonne of reviews for this model, generally good feedback. A great value piece by all accounts.
Grabbed one off their ebay store to have the option of returning it in case it doesn't suit my slim wrists.. Fingers crossed it does!

  • +1

How does this differ to a regular casio?

    • +1

Chronograph and dress watches , same workhorses but classier.

    • I Googled and found various answers. From what I can tell:

      • apparently marketed to “working professionals”. The watches do you have a distinct aesthetic. Mostly seems modern and masculine
      • only analogue or ana-digi. No digital models
      • the higher end watches use more advanced tech
      • pretty sure there’s no resin cases or bracelets in the line up
  • +5

    they have clocks too.

Link to under $50 sorted low to high all clocks towards the top.

    wall clocks starting at $39.

  • Only missed Black Friday by a month

  • Casio F91W-1 is king.

  • Hmmm…this MRW200H-3B in Green is looking very attractive at only $59.95.

This quartz model at only $69.95 could give the Seiko Presage a run for its money. Gold tone S/S, 36mm, mineral glass…the only difference is a quartz movement instead of automatic.

    • Yes definitely, for men who don't mind gold tones.

Thank you. Been meaning to get a edifice and finally pulled the trigger

I love collecting Casio watches, but Australian prices for Casio watches can be as much as doubled of overseas retailers. Most of these sale prices still end up higher than importing from Singapore/Japan/Spain. Most likely because Casio products are distributed by Shriro, not Casio themselves, in Australia. No doubt they tack on their own fees on top of Casio rrp. I've only spotted a handful of sale prices that are comparable to overseas retail prices.

    • Any that you would recommend as being fairly/competitively priced?

  • EFV550L-1A

Got this just now off their ebay store, they have some of these watches discounted there too. Worth it if you alrerady have ebay cards or discount etc

    Thanks for the deals OP

  • any with a sweeping second hand

  • thanks OP for posting. my existing G-Squad (MIP display) clouded over for some reason a few days ago. managed to score the sporty GBD200SM-1A5 at around 70% off rrp (via Amazon). was waiting for Black Friday, but it seems it's already here.

fyi - best quality bargain I've seen with large digital display (incl. mineral glass) DW291H-1A going for $84.95 at Casio Australia (or $139 via Casio Australia's Ebay page) can be found via Casio's AU Amazon link (then officialy onsold via Monster Trading Store affiliate) on sale $67.15 with free delivery (then gifted a $20 Amazon credit for next in-app purchase - or maybe try in-app first). at least one xmas watch present now sorted.

    https://www.amazon.com.au/Casio-DW-291H-1AVDF-I116-CASIO-DW2…

    • Sure is a good price on Amazon if you are after the digital watches. I didn't see any of the edifices there though.

BTW how to you get the $20 credit? I'm a long time prime member but I don't see any credits. Is it only for new prime members for their first purchase?

      • seems to be part of the free 30-day Prime trial (or maybe if no in app purchases already) - decided to accept it in order to get delivery by tomorrow and deals this month.

    • Yes, such a good looking watch.

  • Use discount code "welcome10" it works.

    • Tested:

Enter a valid discount code or gift card

  • I received my EFR526L-7A Panda Chronograph today and it's spectacular. What an amazing price at $80. It's now become my favourite.

    • That looks beautiful. I just got my Timex Q Panda Chronograph 2 weeks ago so my panda itch has been scratched. However, considering it is only $80 compared to $250-ish Timex, I think you have scored a big one there :)

      • +1

Absolutely. I purchased it as soon as I saw it and then made this post primarily for this watch but it sold out in 5 minutes of making this post.

Truly well made watch, Is my new favourite over many other high priced ones. I might just become a panda collector, tempted.

        • Nothing's wrong with a panda collection :) I can see the appeal of it and also the reverse panda.

  • In case you missed it: Re-stock of a lot of these Edifice sale models + take a further 10% off at checkout

    • Everything is out of stock???

      • Pretty much. No bargains compared to first day of the sale.
