  • How do I tell whether they are for men or women? I am asking because my mom needs a watch.

    • +1

No filter for gender, I'm guessing Edifice is all mens! I guess the old school way: use a PC, look for smaller sized ones and check if it suits :(

Casio does have a gender filter. Plus there is a separate category called Womens and of course Baby-G included in the Black Friday Sale.

      • What defines a gender watch, though? Maybe their mum would appreciate a large dial or display that's easier to see or she's a keen outdoors person and would appreciate a chunky, well-protected watch. Not all women want a dainty, pretty watch.

        • +1

Yes hence why I asked them to search by size so they might find something a mum would like, even in the edifice series.

I agree, I like women wearing watches with large dials. Way better than those small dials you'd have to squint. Off course not all women want to dainty, pretty watch.

        • What defines a gender watch, though?

          you mean watch gender?

I think women like the ones which are simpler. the ones with super complicated backgrounds look more impressive for men. like "check this out mate" another man "whoaaah".

men can wear the simpler ones though, but doesn't work as well the other way around women wearing the ones with complicated messy super gadget appearance. just my opinion people won't often say this kind of thing because these days it's seen as misogynistic or bigot.

        • +1

Yeah, check out an episode of Antiques Roadshow some time. Fiona Bruce always wearing a white Chanel J12 ceramic, in what appears to be 38mm size.
Looks pretty chunky but it might be the whiteness of it.

          • @Speckled Jim: Such a beautiful watch for a women though, love it.

          • @Speckled Jim: Mate, Mrs C points that out to me all the time. I've looked it up and it's Grand Seiko prices, so I've told her that when we can afford the Chanel then I'm definitely getting a GS!

            • @Chazzozz: Well in that case, the rest of you needs to match up to a GS. I wonder if there is a similar forum for rich people who can afford GS and Chanel.

    Sorry watch nerds

there's more than one of them??

    • Ofc mate, I saw the Hamilton deal posted two days ago, was called a bargain at $500 delivered, Swiss movement automatic.

      • +1

If I want to be picky, I dislike the missing second hand. With automatic, you can't easily tell whether the watch is working or not without it .

      • oh my, I just looked at the Hamilton and it is awful. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/874356
and it should be like 34 mm or something. Looks like a big old brass dinner plate on your wrist

  • This green sport with sapphire glass is beautiful… must resist lol.

    • I know. I'm holding out for the Orient automatic in Green, recent deal was close to this price for an automatic. Plus that was a beautiful watch.

Plus on this one, the dial isn't symmetrical, cut at angles, I don't even like it anymore

      • Which Orient are you referring to? I can't justify buying another watch at the moment. Just finished adjusting the bracelet of the one that was delivered yesterday lol.

        • +1
          • @zxcvb: I'd still prefer the casio at this discounted price, mainly because of the green dial that is quite similar to the green dial from longines conquest https://www.longines.com/en-au/p/watch-conquest-l3-830-4-02-…

I am just trying to find excuse/s to get this watch lol.

            • @kolorijo: @kolorijo Why oh why is it $3425 ? Are these like Rolex, designer brands? Genuine question,I cannot fathom.

              • +3

@zxcvb: Longines is one of the oldest surviving genuine Swiss watch makers in existence today. In fact, I understand it's the only company which you can send them any serial number and they'll be able to tell you who the original purchaser was, where they got it, etc. They've also had many firsts in the industry and a strong association with many early flight pioneers. Suffice to say they've earnt the right to charge prices they think they can get away with. Judging by how successful they are the market is responding favourably. I agree that once you're spending more than $50 on a watch you're going well beyond 'just a timepiece' territory, but Longines make some mighty fine watches.

                • +2

@Chazzozz: Makes sense hence why it's a piece of jewellery :)

                  • @zxcvb: Exactly, I saw that green dial on display window at Gregory Jewelers :D

And for $149, I can get casio's green dial today and quenched my green dial lust lololol

                    • @kolorijo: Still those sharp angles and the screws behind, if that doesn't bother you, then go for it mate.

                      • @zxcvb: I actually like them, I am more bothered by a lot of writings on the dial.

                        EDIFICE
                        Casio
                        Sapphire
                        Water Resist
                        100M

It will look a lot nicer if they get rid of at least the above strikethrough (or more).

                        • @kolorijo: If it's sold out now, will you regret or feel relieved?

                          • @zxcvb: I misread your comment as it is sold out now, went to the watch page and added it to the cart. I pivoted back to your comment and found the "If" and breathe a sigh of relief.

I guess I should just go and buy it :)

                            • +1

@kolorijo: Ha ha, there you go, that's how I make my decisions..

                              • @zxcvb: Done and dusted. Waiting for it to arrive next week lol.

                                • +1

                                  @kolorijo: Haha, that's awesome mate.

                                  • @zxcvb: Thanks for posting this deal :)

                                    • +1

@kolorijo: Happy to. Do post back with your experience with the watch.

How does this differ to a regular casio?

    • +1

Chronograph and dress watches , same workhorses but classier.

    • I Googled and found various answers. From what I can tell:

      • apparently marketed to “working professionals”. The watches do you have a distinct aesthetic. Mostly seems modern and masculine
      • only analogue or ana-digi. No digital models
      • the higher end watches use more advanced tech
      • pretty sure there’s no resin cases or bracelets in the line up
  • +2

    they have clocks too.

Link to under $50 sorted low to high all clocks towards the top.

    wall clocks starting at $39.

  • Only missed Black Friday by a month

  • Casio F91W-1 is king.

  • Hmmm…this MRW200H-3B in Green is looking very attractive at only $59.95.

This quartz model at only $69.95 could give the Seiko Presage a run for its money. Gold tone S/S, 36mm, mineral glass…the only difference is a quartz movement instead of automatic.

    • Yes definitely, for men who don't mind gold tones.

  • +1

Thank you. Been meaning to get a edifice and finally pulled the trigger

  • I love collecting Casio watches, but Australian prices for Casio watches can be as much as doubled of overseas retailers. Most of these sale prices still end up higher than importing from Singapore/Japan/Spain. Most likely because Casio products are distributed by Shriro, not Casio themselves, in Australia. No doubt they tack on their own fees on top of Casio rrp. I've only spotted a handful of sale prices that are comparable to overseas retail prices.
