XFX Quicksilver Radeon RX 7900 GRE Magnetic Air Gaming White Edition GPU $829 + Del ($0 to Metro/ C&C) + Surcharge @ Scorptec

XFX Quicksilver Radeon RX 7900 GRE Magnetic Air Gaming White Ed, 16GB

Pretty good price, seems one of the cheapest prices since mid-year. This cooler has pretty decent reviews too.

7900 GRE is underrated in Australia, priced similarly to the 4070 Super but can be overclocked to perform close to a stock 4070 ti Super /7900XT.

    Ooooo it's white

I'd put the 7900 GRE at slightly more powerful than a 4070 Super. Awesome card. But the caveat being if you want to run StableDiffusion locally and AI stuff, Nvidia absolutely crushes AMD.

    • Anyone who wants to do that stuff would know to stick to Nvidia though

If you don't care about ray tracing, the 7900GRE is an awesome card.

    • Its not even that bad at raytracing, if I mod Cyberpunk with a few optimization things, I can get 100 frames with FG/XeSS Quality with almost all of the RT settings on. The new veilguard can run fine with all the RT turned on etc. It's certainly usable. But for plain old raster it's a beast.

      • AMD cards are pretty horrible at RT in comparison to nvidia cards. Yes they can do it, but the performance drop is huge. With my 7800XT, turning RT on in cyberpunk drops my framerate by 40-50% (it looks awesome though).

        • Oh of course, I know its not great in comparison. I mostly just chose to get it over a 4070 Super since paying ~$900 for one of the subpar models of a card with 12gb VRAM didn't seem great longterm. speaking of Cyberpunk, with some mods I was already using 13gb of VRAM so it seemed a bit close to me.

Heard bad things about bugs compared to NVIDIA drivers. Has it improved much?

I've had a 6900XT for a couple of years now and haven't had any issues with drivers.

    • +1

I had a 5700 XT for a few years, which had some issues.
Upgraded to a 7800 XT almost 12 months ago with zero problems.

      • Agreed. I had the 5700 XT, too. It had a random driver issue: the screen went black for no reason while using Chrome.
I'm now using a 6700 XT with no issues whatsoever. AMD drivers have come a long way to resolve most of the issues, and it's now pretty solid.

Old news. AMD drivers very solid. In fact adrenaline beats the hell out of geforce experience though at least you don't have to login anymore. Have 6800xt and 3070 on two different systems.

    • 7700XT since near launch, never had driver problems.

It is so hard for companies to get rid of customer's prejudice.

Never a problem for me since my switch of 6600XT, then 7900XT.

    • It changes gen to gen, used to NVidia sucked the big one driver wise, then it was AMD, right now they are both pretty decent.

It was this price 3 weeks ago and you got 2 games with it.

Thanks for reminding me to claim them.

    • How are you enjoying the card?

      • +3

It's been pretty equal to my 3080ti I had to RMA, not sure what I'll do when or if I get the 3080ti back vs a refund.

        • I think you can sell it for about $500

    • +1

Well, if you buy it by Sunday you'll still be entitled to those 2 games

1 game* Awakening 9 was so dogcrap I didn't even redeem the code when it came with this card.

General lack of supply here I think

Hmm it has been this price for a while mate.

    • When I checked a week ago the cheapest one was >$900

        • It's literally in the link you just posted, the cheapest from the 25th to 29th of October 2024 was >$900

      • This particular model has always been $829. it's flitted in and out of stock. not saying it isn't a bargain, though - it's a good deal for a great card.

  • Any opinions on whether this 7900GRE is worth the extra $100 over a 7800XT (https://www.scorptec.com.au/product/graphics-cards/amd/11041…)?

    • There is a $709 7800xt on there so for $120 less, it comes just under in game comparisons. so worth considering

    • +1

Worth it if you plan on overclocking, because with a good overclock (primarily on memory) it comes close to the 7900xt

If you're not in a rush, new AMD GPUs are coming in Jan, so should see more price drops coming.

Personally I plan on jumping on a 7900 XTX (running a 4K monitor here, so it's either that or drop even more money I don't have on a top tier RTX card).

I can pretty consistently set my clocks to 2703/2803, set the vram to 2316/fast timings and then set the fans to 45% and have it all run fine. This worked in Cyberpunk for 100+ hours. It seems to have trouble with Kingdom Come however using these settings but it's likely related to the game from what I understand as the new Veilguard game is also stable. Great card imo. I can raytrace pretty well in games where it isn't a crowning feature like Cyberpunk, though RT is fine with some mods.

Given that the cheapest 4070 Super with 12gb Vram is usually around $850-900 with shipping/the fees etc I think this is a great deal. The 4070 Super wont be smashing Raytracing at that price point and the 12gb VRAM is a big downgrade imo, my modded cyberpunk run was using about 13-14gb of vram at all times. Maybe worth waiting for the next AMD GPU's before upgrading, but based on what the market looks like whenever I do look, it'll all just stay the same price anyway and be overpriced on launch here.. The 4070's are still going for the same price as 4070 supers for some reason here.
