Anyone know about when/how this could be unlocked?

Have you recharged your service to a minimum / accumulated amount of $80?

Yes: There is no fee to network unlock your handset

No: How long has your service been active?

Less than 6 months: There is an $80 fee
More than 6 months: There is a $25 fee

Note. If you use the 9999 SMS Menu service to unlock your device and have a saved payment method with us, this can be used during the payment process. Otherwise, we'll send you an Optus PayID to make the payment in your banking app. This code can be shared with others. PayID is the only method of payment via the device unlock website.

        • I did unlock one of my Optus branded devices via one of my amaysim services and I was only on PAYG and it was for no fee. I only had $10 credit on my service.

          • @Cocochicken: May I kindly ask how you were able to do that? Was it thru the amaysim app?

            • @h11deo: Just sms Menu to 9999 from an Amaysim sim, doesn't have to have any credit on the sim.

Thanks OP. Worked with an existing service. Got the phone for $1.

    • +1

How did you get it for $1?
      Is there a trick?

I thought you have to pay the $30 plan for the 1st month then cancel.
I don't need the $30 plan though. I have a pixel 2 XL which no longer supports 3G network as of yesterday and only want the phone. No plans.

      • You could have had a phone for $31 if you had acted on op's post. There are still other cheap options for $31 phones linked in the post.

    • Cheers Grabbed one

  • +4

cancel the plan within 28 days?

    • Or if you want to keep the number, change it to their lowest price for the longest time plan.
I believe its the "pay as you go" plan. And I just top it up with $10 every 365 days.

Good for making use of other promotions which require new numbers and stuff.

    • of course you can code lasts until 30/ nov

      • +3

how to get the 200 coupon?

        • Because of 3g shutdown

          • -1

@superforever: I only got one month fee refunded which is $69 from Telstra. Should I ask for more? Who offers the $200 coupon to you guys?
            Thank you mate.

      • ozbargin is poker, got to know when to hold them.

    • Can't use with my current plan. Are there any penalties for buying the phone on a new plan and then cancelling it?

      • No just turn off auto renew

    • Yeah isn't this an all time low? I just got this

  • +1

Managed to snag one, thanks OP.
Going to keep the number and change the plan to the "pay as you go" one, then top it up once a year to keep the number active.
    :)

    • So did you pay the initial $30 plan?

      • Yes it charged me for the first month.

  • +2

However, please note that phones from the following brands are initially locked to the Optus network:

    Oppo
    Optus X

If you ever need to unlock your phone after purchase, we're here to help.

  • I'm going to pull my hair out of frustration waiting for apps to load on the snapdragon 460
Then i'm going to go blind looking at 720p low quality LCD display.

If i can get it for $1 to replace my non working pixel 2 xl then i would.

    • I got google to replace my Pixel 3 in September for free - battery was bulging. They didn't have any Pixel 3 in stock, so I had to take a Pixel 5 instead (refurb).

  • A53s blue OOS already..
managed to get a black one.. Thanks OP

  • Can the phone still be used on Amaysim network if it is Optus locked?

    • yes, both use the same optus network

  • +1

    OOS during checkout :/

  • Thanks OP, got one. Didn't need to recharge plan too lol, $1 CB from TCB will cover it

  • Out of stonk, just tried lol

    • Get the Optus X pro

    • +2

      Same I'm confused with myself

  • How xpro compare to G54?

    • G54 is esim, 5g and more rams

      • +1

How to get G54 for $1 though? I want more rams.

        • Cheapest is $9 if you had the $200 amaysim device code, but oos now.

    • -1

      complete trash.

      • G54 or the xpro?

        • X pro

          • @Jaduqimon: ok then save me $1

            • -1

@a1234my: i mean for $1 its worth it lol spare phone for the mistress

              • @Jaduqimon: Been using old smart phone as hassio as wall control panel. This would be a screen update.

                • @a1234my: i think these come with charge and usb cable. thats alrdy worth $1 lol

              • +1

@Jaduqimon: Your mistress will leave you for me if I give her the $9 G54.

  • thanks op , got pro ☺️

  • +9

shopback gives you $3.25 for the x pro if it tracks

    • +7

You deserve an OzB badge for even thinking about cashback on a $1 phone.

      • risky… stuffing around with CB with risk of OOS

        • +1

not really - shopback browser extension - extra click of button to track (green icon)

      • A53s for $6.5 cashback.

  • +5

Might be good for a dedicated retro emulation machine paired with a cheap telescopic controller.

    • +1

      Exactly what I was thinking.

      • It's exactly why I bought it.
Retro emulation and pokemmo + the yet to be released pokeforce.

    • I've been thinking about doing similar with a old phone. Any recommendations for a cheap telescopic controller?

      • +1

DSP D8 usually around $15-18 USD during aliexpress sale… which is happening today at 5-6PM

        • Nice, thanks. Will check that one out.

  • wasnt this oppo A53 released in 2020? and Android 10?

  • -1

Bought 6 xpro's as burners for uber accounts etc but should be profitable if cashback tracks.

Also optus has no stock of the xpro 4G so im expecting they will send the 5G variant

    https://www.optus.com.au/prepaid/phones/optus/x-pro-5g

    • wow nice. If got the 5G variant.

      • Or they will just refund $1.

        • I hope not, if shopback tracked. hehe

    • Wouldn't amaysims stock be separate to optus stock though?

      • +1

All my a35s i bought with $200 codes appeared to be coming from optus

        • +1

Well, I hope that they are the 5g versions for everyone who bought one

          • +1

@Originality: They came from DHL supply chain (6 Millner Ave Horsley Oark) which ships out Optus phones and googling the address, optus mentions this address
