13th gen intel CPU on a laptop? Still a bit of a yikes.

    • +1

It's cheap, isn't it? Also 14900hx is just like 10% better, intel is not making any significant improvements.

      • All 13th and 14th gen CPUs have significant issues. I suggest you read about them.

        • Oh, that's another topic, I know what you are talking about. I believe the tech YouTubers are talking about the very latest Arrow Lake having similar issues as well, maybe that's just what people need to swallow to buy from the blue factory lol

@charmandad: They are not having similar issues, the stability issues are mostly due to new cpu architecture and probably microcode bugs. The 13th n 14th gen stability issue was due to degradation from high voltages, once the CPU is unstable it can't be fixed so the fixes they sent out were to prevent cpus from degrading from that point onwards.. whereas arrow Lake issues will likely be fixed in software and microcode updates.

Laptop CPUs aren't as affected as the desktop variety due to lower power and voltage. You should be alright with laptop variants.

The mobile ones are fine, according to Intel.

idk, but I do gaming laptop stuff full time and no one has adequately provided me with any proof that there are issues with these. 13th gen has been in the wild for nearly 2 years now. Intel have nothing to gain by lying and pretending there aren't problems when they have already put out fixes for the desktop ones - they'd just do it for both if there was an issue and save further degradation.

Sure I get not trusting the big company and all that, but yeah all these sorts of comments just come off as fearmongering.

      With RTX4090.

      Model with i7 and 4080 is $2600.

  • +1

is this the 4090 which is the desktop 4080?

    • +5

The silicon yes, the performance is more like a desktop 4070ti.
AD103 is a big die, hungry for power.

  • So far I guess this is the cheapest 4090 laptop price we ever seen?

How can anybody call this obese monster a "laptop" with a straight face?

    • I guess when it’s being used on a lap…

      • +3

Oh sweet summer child. Weighs like a sack of spuds, and burns your nuts. i don't think anyone is actually doing that.

        • Lol…

Technically being able to be used on a lap would class it as a laptop. But like you mentioned it would ill advised to do so.

Ordered one last night and it should be here tomorrow. Let's see how it outperforms my current desktop with Razen 5 5700x and RTX3080.

Ooooo! Looking forward to your testing and feedback then!

    • Yeah i need a laptop to replace my rtx 3080 desktop. I'm curious too.

    • I am also curious.

    • I’m curious three
