  • I bought a similar item from Kmart for cheap and the sound output is low.
Hopefully this is a better unit.

Boy we've come a long way since Sound blaster sound card that goes into a computer's PCI slot eh.

    • +5

You young people with you're PCI slots, back in my day everyone knew the Sound Blaster (which was mono 8 bit sound) went in the ISA slot, those PCI slots will never catch on.

Yep, that was back when motherboards were actual motherboard and didn't have anything on-board. Sound cards, video cards, network cards, serial cards, hard drive and floppy drive cards all had to slot into the motherboard separately.

    • looks at 3dfx card with VGA passthrough

Can't you get a similar (off brand) ones for $2 from aliexpress?

there are a whole bunch of them around the $2 ~ $3 range.

  • Stupid question, but what if I have a combo headset with mic inbuilt? Can one single cable connected to one single port of this device serve both sound output AND input?

    • No, the headset connector will probably be a 4-pole 3.5mm. You'll also need a splitter cable.

  • Can the output from this be used by bluetooth headphones on the PC, or only via the output jack?

    • Not via BT, only the jack output.
