Looks like a good deal but I'm looking for a handheld under $50.

I'm looking for a small, basic vacuum for my just my bedroom. I have lots of shelves with lots books/movies/figures etc - is this about as good as it gets in this price range (i.e. sub-$100)?

    • Hey johno. I grabbed a 'Hoover performer' from godfreys on Saturday. She's a beaut little thing, 3000watts of golf ball sucking power, nice compact unit, not a hand held though. $99.

Edit: model number is 3000, it's 1400Watts… Apologies.

2years warranty. A couple of fittings for tight cracks.

Did anyone else think it was a whistle from the picture..?

  • In my experience all of the handheld vacuums suck, as in the negative sense of the word. They are just too underpowered to even pick up a bit of sand. But perhaps I've just bought too cheap ones.

    • Can you share with us the brands/models you have tried?

    • In my experience all of the handheld vacuums suck.

      Indeed all vacuums suck :)

I actually have an older Dustbuster 16.8V model and it sucks quite well. Battery won't last for more than 10 minutes though and very loud.

  • Just a note regarding this model - it's quite heavy and awkwardly balanced. While the suction on it is quite good, an aged person might have difficulty using it even for a few moments.

  • I've owned the B&D 14v and this 18V one, what a huge difference.

    Cons
The problem with this model is that you cant used the nozzle extension with the brush tip.
The brush is connected to the unit and you have to fold it away to extend the nozzle.

    It is also pretty loud.

    Pros
    Suction is great.
    Easy to clean
    Last about 20 - 30 minutes
Good for keeping my 1 year old nephew away from the stairs as the noise scars him =)

scars him for life by the sounds of it then ; )

    • becoz of the last point, I will go get one. :)

  • These vacuums appear to be one of the better picks after the research we did before buying, and the Blacker Decks is where we ended up. It provides about 10 minutes of use before it wants back on the charger, and we only got it for those quick clean ups - spilled the rice, clean the ants out of the freezer - that sort of thing.

So for bedroom shelves johnno probably just the thing.

That said - we bought one of these whistles. Worked well but we took it back 9 months later as the latch on the side soon developed a fault and would open on use, dropping shit everywhere. A silly little spring loaded type of latch.

So we went and bought this one in the 18V for 90 bucks after a haggle at the good guys.

Ended up getting the same result without the fault.

Hope this info may be of use.

  • so is this nicad?

  • for a min. there i thought it was free and make a $1.

only $84 and get $85off! lol

  • No Stock in either of the Blacktown NSW stores :(

  • I got this one from Godfreys Marion, Adelaide last Friday! B&D PV1810-xe 18v Pivot Nose Dust Blower + free B&D Electric Outdoor Blower (GW2200-XE) for $84!!! Apparently it was a pricing error but honoured the deal because I saw it on some advertisements out the front of their Hilton store (Sr Donald Bradman Dr). Some brochures also ran with this special so if you can find one & take it in, you can get the same deal…. edit: I just searched online and apparently the blower alone goes for about $119

  • Great deal indeed! $84 for a vac and a blower both of great quality. Just bought mine today. Deal is still active.

  • Note. You can also substitue the blower for a hammer drill of about $130. It was the original deal. I choose the blower though.
