As per the comment offer is geo fenced i have updated the heading accordingly, I know it works for SA not sure about other states.

This offer is a promotion where you can get a Google Pixel 8a for free when you purchase a Google Pixel 9 Pro XL or Pixel 9 Pro on a 12-month mobile plan. Let's break down the details:

Offer Breakdown:
12-Month Mobile Plan with Pixel 9 Pro (or XL) Purchase:

$39/Month Plan (50 GB data, no international calls):
Total cost over 12 months: $1,737.48.

$46.50/Month Plan (180 GB data, includes international calls):
Total cost over 12 months: $1,744.98.

Pixel 9 Pro XL Specific Option:
$46.50/Month Plan (180 GB data, includes international calls):
Total cost over 12 months: $1,895.46.

Free Google Pixel 8a:
This promotion includes a free Pixel 8a when you buy a Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL. The estimated value of this device is around $500.

Additional Perk:
You also get 3 months of Amazon Prime, which could be useful for deals like Black Friday sales.

Possible Scenario:
If you sell the Pixel 8a (valued around $500), and then subtract this from the total cost, it reduces the effective price of the Pixel 9 Pro.

You’re essentially getting the Pixel 9 Pro (worth ~$1,600), along with 12 months of mobile service for a cheaper price, assuming you can sell the Pixel 8a.

If you don’t need the second phone (Pixel 8a) and can sell it for $500, this deal can offer a significant discount on both the phone and the mobile service plan. For someone in the market for a new Pixel and willing to sell the extra device, this might be a good deal, especially considering the added mobile service and Amazon Prime subscription.

That hasn't really cleared anything up…..

This line is the most confusing: You’re essentially getting the Pixel 9 Pro (worth ~$1,600), along with 12 months of mobile service, for less than $300, assuming you can sell the Pixel 8a.

I'm not sure how spending $1700+ over 12 months, and getting back $500 from sale of Pixel 8a equates to less than $300

I assume its meant to be read than $1300 ??

I guess you can't polish a turd, as they say

          @semaj
          Yes,
          9 Pro Price - Pixel 8a - 12 months of Optus = Cheaper price for 9 Pro

    • Some postcodes (?) can get a free Pixel 8a and 3 months Amazon Prime with the purchase of a Pixel 9 Pro or Pixel 9 Pro XL.
These need to be on a plan, the cheapest of which is $39/m for 12 months. The rest is maths.

The link provided seems geo-locked to some states. Doesn't work in Vic.

    • Is it i will update the heading now

  • wow good find

  • I get 193 per month?

    • Pixel 9 PRO 128 GB or XL 128 GB with $46.5 plan?
if you don't want international call you can opt for $39 plan its bit cheaper

      • +1

        that was pro xl
        Pro is 180 per month

edit: ok got where the 188 is from - pro + $46 plan

  • +1

If you cancel the plan, don't you still have to repay the full handset value back?

From the CIS, "Any related device payment plan will be cancelled and you’ll need to pay out any remaining device payments in full and any other charges owing, as a one-off payment."

    • +1

Yes, you need to pay. So i guess the JB trick doesn't work here

      • -1

this prevents the cancellation strategy right?
shame - I was getting excited whether we can get two phones around 1000 dollars

        • True, its kind of $850 for each phone deal

  • If you need more data their $69 plan gives 360gb/m plus $10/m to use for prime, Netflix, paramount+ etc. so another $120/year of benefits.

    • it only gives you two plans to choose from

      • I went to the site to check it out and it allows me to select the plan? The offer says nothing about a specific plan in the T&Cs.

  • Telstra hasn't been great at my place. Been thinking of trying Optus. Assuming I stick with it for a year at least (SIM plan isn't contracted anyway), effectively it's $76 p/m over 12m for a Pixel 9 Pro 256GB plus the 39 SIM only with 50GB. Unless I've calculated that all wrong?

    $39 x 12 = $468
    Pixel 9 pro 256GB repayments $154.08 x 12 = $1848.96
    12m total = $2316.96 ($193.08 or p/m over 12m)

Sell Pixel 8a, would get $600 I reckon. Sell my current phone $800 = $1400

    $2319.96 - $1400 = $919.96
    919.96 / 12 = $76.66 p/m over 12m.

    • Sell Pixel 8a, would get $600 I reckon. Sell my current phone $800 = $1400

The $800 should not be included. Did you consider it lost?

      • Was just treating it as if I was trading it in like I normally do with a new phone :/

  • Eligible for Qld 4000 postcode.

  • Wonder why it's just in QLD & SA…

    • I can access the deal in NSW.

      • Regional Victoria too.

  • Pity they are only giving away the obsidian 8a! I would have preferred the bay!

  • Would the Pixel 8a as a bonus be locked to Optus?

    • +1

The last time they gave away the 6a it was not locked.

I just popped into Optus store after work and grabbed this deal.

Xiaomi redmi note 9 pro owner.
Was hoping that after setting up volLTE I wouldn't be hit with the 3g shutdown
Phone was cut off this morning.
I was tempted with the JB deal but looks like not many are now getting the 350 cash back. Quite happy with Optus as I get Optus sport for the EPL for 10 bucks

Optus honoured the $400 off any new phone for existing customers ( even though the terms listed it as ending yesterday)
With the $400 discount I have a Google pixel 9 pro XL 256gb, 50gb a month plan for just over $100 a month. 24 month contract.

Plus a free Free pixel 8a
    - perfect for my wife when her Xiaomi gets shut down any day now. She is a light data user so amaysim $120 yearly plan is all she needs.

So all up we both have new phones vastly superior to what we had and are paying about $25 a month more

    Albury NSW
No stock in store but 2 - 5 days for the XL
Once activated I can claim the 8a. Was told the 8a is about 2 weeks wait.

  • Not a bargain IMO

Assuming you get the cheapest plan you get Pixel 9 Pro + Pixel 8a + 12 months $39 plan = $180.54/month or $2166.48 for 12 months.
With the JB hack you can get a Pixel 9 Pro for $865.59. Pixel 8a may be worth $600. Combined they are worth $1465.59.

The difference is about $700 and I sure as hell don't value 12 month of Optus' cheapest plan service $700 for a year.

Even if I am on the market for 2 phones, I would much rather get the JB Hi Fi plan twice, cancel both, and get 2x Pixel 9 Pro for $1731.18.

This is only a deal if your workplace is paying for phone allowance, or if you want 2 phones, but don't have the cash to buy them outright.
