  • It's also showing as the same price on their eBay store, but as $2,614.40 with an eBay plus coupon applied.

    • Looks like it's only available in NSW on their eBay, won't ship to my address in Melbourne

To buy or wait for black friday… hmm

    • Same dilemma

    • Wondering the same lol, ATL seems to be 27XX… so unsure if BF will go sub 2700

    • This could be close to ATL from retailer. But TCL has run promotions before by giving out additonal GC through redemption.

    • +2

I suspect black friday will be circa 2600, however because this is such a popular model, you'll likely have to wait until Jan for delivery. I purchased yesterday on the thought that I'd rather enjoy it now then save 150 and wait 3 months… It took a solid 8 weeks to come back into stock back in June when there were ATL deals.

  • +6

now need a deal for the 98"

    • Still thinking about the under 5k deal from samsung 98" miniled. Passed it due to lack of dolby vision support but i could be waiting for another year or two for deal like that to appear.

  • +2

I’m waiting to see the 75” drops down into the $15xx like the C845 did back in April. I’m struggling to wait that long though.

    • +1

Yea I'm just gonna pull the trigger at $17xx (hopefully during Black Friday), don't wanna wait till early next year

      • Do you think the price is gonna drop by another ~$500 in 4 weeks for black friday?

        • +1

Based on last year's sales, should be at least in the $18xx range. $17xx if we're lucky

  • +5

    Have one, 2715 during eofy

Amazing TV even though the first one had a defect so Appliances Online had it replaced 2 days later

For anyone wondering, yeah it beats the more expensive Sony Bravia 7. Even motion is excellent now, same for reflection handling. And of course, inky blacks and blinding brightness.

    • +1

I do have some micro stutters on some content, though. A lot of people wouldn’t even notice. It’s more noticeable on Dolby vision 4k content from netflix, on slow moving scenes for some reason. I saw it happening a lot on Brigerton, for example. Have you experienced the same?

      • +1

use anti judder and anti blur set to 3 and it will be smooth and natural

    • In what ways do you think it's better than the Sony Bravia 7? Where do you think it falls short?

You say motion is excellent now, is this post-firmware updates? What use cases are you seeing better motion?

Weighing up these two options for my Black Friday strategy. Bravia 7 would be my stretch purchase for sure so I'm weighing up value vs. performance vs. peace of mind.

      • +1

I compared both in store, same size, did a quick calibration, and found out in pretty much everything the TCL was superior
        - much better blacks
        - much better reflection handling (sony is a mirror)
        - much brighter
        - same viewing angles
        - with latest fw and anti judder anti blur set to 3, it's the most smooth TV I've ever used (I've had Sonys) and without causing artifacts or soap opera effect. For this you need to play videos in 60 Hz tho, not 120. If using a PC this is easily achievable with MPC (custom refresh rate for fullscreen video)

it also came surprisingly well calibrated oob (I have a meter and Calman) , but your mileage will vary (use Movie mode)

the Sony B7 is a waste of money

        • Have you got any advice how to update fw?

          • +1

            @bigbaddbaz: it does it automatically… v404 now

          • +1

            @bigbaddbaz:

            1. Join telegram group - https://t.me/tclupdates
            2. Download correct version for your model
            3. Copy zip file (do not uncompress) to usb drive
            4. Plug in usb to tv, go into update settings and update from USB.
            5. Will verify file then confirm if you want to update
            6. Apply update.
            • @dazza826: or just wait another month to get it over the air…

              • @CrazyTachikoma: That too.

Just found with the c845x2 that some updates are released way quicker than others.

                • @dazza826: yeah I do get my updates from XDA forums as soon as they are released, but people say it's taking just a month from .zip being available to over the air updates hitting boomer's TVs

        • What about the X90L vs this one?

          • +1

@Frosty17: the X90L is not even MiniLED, it's nowhere near close the B7, let alone the C855

            a C755 is already superior to a X90L

            • @CrazyTachikoma: My biggest worry is TCL's motion and general software implementation vs Sony. I know that most brands have bridged the gap considerably to Sony in these aspects, but I still read a lot of people having issues with TCL. In saying that, when I had a look in store a while ago the TCL picture was definitely pretty impressive for the price, and there is no way I'd pay the Bravia 7 price for what it is. I have an 83" Sony OLED that is amazing, but looking at something for our bright living room :)

              • @Frosty17: I come from 2 Sonys in the past 4 years, bought a cheap TCL last year and after being impressed I got a C855 this year.

In terms of motion, 23" models were good enough for me, while for 24" models if there's any difference to my Sony I can't notice. I calibrate TVs and have worked with video editing before so I know a thing or two about img quality and motion.

As for the software, TCL is vastly superior. Sony has a nice overlay theme on top of its Google/Android TV, but it's laggy (even on the latest B7), and buggy as hell. eARC, HDMI 2.1, VRR, all modern features are always buggy. In the other hand, TCL software (specially in non logged on mode) is vanilla Google TV, super fast, and I haven't seen any bugs so far, either with my Denon AVR nor my HTPC in 4k@120Hz, etc. I was even planning on getting the B7 with the latest Sony AVR HDMI 2.1, but after reading a ton of av/avsforum pages I gave up on the AVR as it had a ton of bugs with Sony and other brands, which is pathetic as people bought it with a Sony TV for the best case scenario. Apart from their upscaling / motion, Sony sw sucks.

    • What was defective?

      • +1

it had a mark on the screen, likely due to shipping

    • Subjective opinion. The B7 gets an 8.4 on RTINGS. Whilst the C855 is a cracking TV, I highly doubt it outperforms the B7.

      • the TCL QM8 gets 8.5

        • It’s not the same.

          https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/tcl/qm8-qm851g-qled

The TCL QM851G is currently only available in North America; in Europe, TCL released the similar TCL X955. Typically, similar models from other regions perform differently, so these results aren't valid for it.

          • +1

@Maths Debater: it is basically the same this year

the 851G has more zones (more brightness) than the C855, everything else in terms of performance they are the same

considering the 855 has 2-3k nits and almost the same zone amount as a Bravia 9, the 5k nits of the 851G is largely overkill imo

where it matters the most - contrast, reflection handling, improved motion, color accuracy, etc. etc., they are the same

and rtings as too generous with the Bravia 7, plenty of other reviewers are more critical - the amount of blooming it has is VERY visible

blooming is basically non existent with the C855

you dont need to believe me, go to harvey norman / jb hifi, put them in movie / professional mode and compare yourself :)

            • @CrazyTachikoma: @CrazyTachikoma - any tips on picture settings to apply for the c855? I haven’t come across anything helpful yet. Cheers

              • +2

@Crowing: Sure. For any source - video/netflix/PC/consoles - use the Movie preset, ignore all other presets.

Of course this will change for every panel, but in my case for SDR:
                - brightness set to 6 for 120 nits for night viewing
                - brightness set to 16 for 160 nits for daily viewing (quick access button to change +10 -10 quickly)
                - contrast at 90
                - black level at 54
                - local dimming at Low
                - Gamma to 3 (results in a 2.3 gamma curve, a compromise I like between PC 2.2 and video 2.4)
                - Color temperature -5 (default for Movie mode)
                - Tint / color saturation at 50, default
                - all dynamic / enhancements disable, same for Intelligent sound/video and any Eco setting
                - sharpness to 0 (anything above is a filter)
                - Anti judder / Anti blur set to 3 (gets disabled at 120 hz)

                For HDR:
                - brightness and contrast at 100%
                - local dimming at High
                - Gamma 4 (HDR 2.4 Gamma)
                - tone map disable
                - For Dolby Vision, choose Dark preset.

For PC/consoles, set it to 120hz so there's NO lag. I'd only use Game Mode if you want VRR, but since I play on my HTPC I leave it on Movie all the time. 120 Hz will disable de judder and anti blur, so if using a PC, set your video player to change the screen refresh to 60 Hz while playing the video, so you can have those 2 options set to 3.

JB HIFI are refusing to price match it for me…

Apparently since the Appliances Online website shows "In stock - Less than 5 items left - hurry!" they consider it as on backorder.

    • Try your luck through Good Guys via online chat - they never rejected my price match requests.
This is a great TV (experience talking) - go for it. Good luck!

    • +2

lol that's some bullshit from jb. "in stock" but we don't like their price so we're going to pretend it's out of stock.

    • JB priced matched for $2752 but they wouldn't match the free delivery.

  • Tried price match with JB and they said it's technically out of stock so they won't honour

  • +1

My C855 picture doesn't seem to be affected at all, but there must be some other layer in front of the actual panel and it is warped and bumpy AF.

I have a ~1m long horizontal bar light (under a shelf) on opposite wall to the TV and I noticed the reflection of it shows as all wobbly and wavy, like the surface of the screen is far from flat. When you move your head around and see the reflection in different spots on the screen, it bends and wobbles all over the shop.
110% on my old Bravia, that bar reflection was straight as straight.

Is that an issue I should return the TV for, or to be expected? Anyone else notice such a thing?

    • Sure there's not a peel-able layer of plastic that's still on it?

This happened to my boss with a whiteboard, was on the phone complaining and then realised it was there and hung up lmao

      • There was, and then I took that off - and it made no difference.

        • +2

Pretty sure its just the anti reflectove coatings they apply. If you look at an LG G4 in store they have the same wavy look across reflections

          • +1

@bigbaddbaz: Yup I reckon it's the anti reflective coating. My LG does something similar

    • that is the anti reflection coating my friend

    • Just got the 85" C855 delivered, and noticing signing warp. We have plantation shutters on the wall opposite of the TV, warping is minor at some spots and crazy at some others.

      Don't know what to do.

  • great tv

  • Anyone have the 55" version of this? Looking at replacing an aging Hisense and seems to hit all the decent specs.

  • +1

Weight with Stand: 48.5kg; Package Weight 67kg. That is some serious packaging!

    • +1

it is the best packaged TV I've ever unpacked

  • This doesn't come in an 80" size? Damn… 85" is slightly bigger than our wall mounted Ikea unit thing and I think it'd look stupid - unless anyone has the same setup and reckon it looks ok?

  • I have the older c825…still blows me out of the water

  • I got this tv back in may for this price. Loving it so far only downside is it doesnt handle glare the best and ui can be laggy. Other than that solid picture quality good brightness and good gaming settings.

  • +1

I have the 85C845 and the 85C755. Just amazing TVs, really the brightness, the colors just pop. TCL is fantastic once you hit the mini LED Range.

    • How are you finding the 85C755?

I'm trying to decide if the 85C855 is worth the ~$1k premium

      • You’ll be using this for a decade, what’s $1k over that period. Go for the best.

        • With that thinking I should get a Samsung S90D!

      • Spec wise the C845 trumps the C755 but real life usage i find the C755 better. Perhaps newer software. Unfortunately i cannot comment on the C855 as they only sell up to the 75" model here in thailand.

If you are really strapped C755 is ultra premium in comparison to anything non Mini led. I would highly reccomend it.

      • the main difference will be a bit more blooming (basically non existent on the C855), higher peak brightness, and the anti glare coating which is great on the c855

everything else should be the same

personally I think the C855 is an absolute amazing deal, beating Samsung/Sony models that cost 50-100% more

  • Harvey Norman had no problems price matching this including free delivery for next Saturday.

  • Im looking to upgrade to a 120hz 65" or 75" tv, normally i always go for a samsung. I see a lot of these tcl's but i always thought they were a budget brand that dont last long?

    • haha they def last longer than Samsungs… just check the rtings TV endurance test

you need to spend twice this money with a Samsung (or 3 times with a Sony) to get a better TV

anything below that and you are getting a worse TV

      • Im after 120hz for gaming. I get conflicted reviews online, with some people saying that tcl use a sort of fake uprating to get their tv's to 120hz?

        • Yeah that was sony with their halved 4k, x900h flashbacks…

  • Got the C845 85" same time last year and its amazing. I cant see any blooming and it looks just as good as my panasonic oled, just wayyyy bigger. The software/processing power has also really improved. Previous generations were struggeling with high bitrate 4k content (not netflix or amazons treaming crap). Either the cpus were to weak or the network couldnt handle the throughput. But this one handles everything over 5ghz wifi. So I would assume the C855 is even better but its still a little too expensive. Has to hit under $2500 incl all discounts and cashback to match last years deal.

    • I have a C745 which is great but I kinda regret not buying the C845

from all reviews I read before getting the C855, it was quite the leap over the C845, reason why reviewers are considering it a true premium TV alongside LG/Sony/Samsung best models now

  • +1

Also price matched with HN. Went with them because everywhere else I checked wouldn't deliver to the regional TAS address I specified. HN did, for $99 extra. Will be delivered 30/10.

Decided best to buy now than save one or two hundred bucks around BF and risk low stock levels and HN not price matching.

Note if wall mounting, it has an unusual VESA pattern which a lot of cheaper mounts don't support. I got this at HN, talked down to $228:

    https://www.harveynorman.com.au/sanus-65-inch-to-140-inch-fl…

    • Did you talk them down on the mount online or in store?

      • Over the phone

  • Lowest price is technically $2476.80 with Harvey Normans 10% of purchase value in Gift Cards if you can get them to price match. I wasn't able to though.

    • +1

They wouldn't do a price match for me either, used the 10% gift card as an excuse.
      F#*k you Gerry 🖕

      • See my comment below

I price matched before 6pm Friday when the 10% off deal began. Perhaps that's why.

10% off deal ends on Sunday, so if Appliances Online still has this on sale on Monday, you could try your luck again then.

I don't really consider it 10% off anyway, because I have to buy something else from Gerry within one month and I don't want to.

      • Got a call from HN this morning. They are doing a price blitz this weekend and called me to say they are honouring it

    • See here

  • HN has it for $2557 now with 10% gift card. See here

  • ATL for the 85 inch is technically $2100 delivered, only a few of us got it the other day from a price match at JB and 20% off with perks. Was a pretty damn good deal!
