Thanks OP. Got one for the todller to play with during an upcoming holiday and flights.

  • My kid is needing an iPad for school next year but school said they only want 8th gen and up 🙄

    • 32GB most likely wont be enough for school

      • Surprisingly they said they only want 16GB free for school stuff. They use like 3 apps and they're super basic :P

        • You probably wont have more than 16GB available on this after iOS is installed…

i have the 32GB 8th gen with iOS 18, and iOS takes up 10GB, then there is System Data (whatever the hell that is) that takes up another 6GB. So that's half your storage already gone.

        • get the 9th gen or newer.. it will last a lot longer

32GB is pathetic low nowadays and not worth pay $200+
the battery in this 7th gen is probably not as good now

also newer iOS no longer supported.

    • they only want 8th gen and up

9th gen are often on sale.

      • Yeah I did already pick up the recent 9th gen costco special but have left it boxed up and will return it if I find a better deal before school starts up next year.

The 9th gen will last a lot longer with iOS updates.

          I wouldn't get anything older.

Also, you'll have warranty with the Costco one… Not for refurbs.

          • @jv: Green Gadgets do include a 1 year warranty on their refurbs. I once had battery issues with a refurb iPad around 8 months after purchase and after some basic troubleshooting they offered a swap or refund.

              @penno2:

Green Gadgets do include a 1 year warranty on their refurbs.

Not as good as an Apple warranty which will be good for a couple of years.

        • how much you paid for it?

you getting a new ipad with new battery from costco + apple warranty..

That's not unreasonable. Once devices drop off the support cycle they're pretty much useless (i.e. 7th Gen only scraped in for iOS 18 this year, and likely won't make the cut for next year's update) as they won't receive support for apps, etc.

Think about it this way: if you buy this one, then you're going to likely have to buy a new one much sooner. It's the Boots theory - you need to spend more to save more.

Yeah true. It needs to last him 3 years (Year 6), then in high school they get laptops apparently. I was reading somewhere 9th gen and up will be supported til 2027 which should work for the 3 years then. 10th gen obviously should be a year or 2 longer.

    • Our school wants 10th gen!

      • Private school I'm guessing? Ours is just a state primary…

        • Nah, a WA state primary school.

          • @coxymla: Oh OK, interesting. I guess it's either for future-proofing or they use an app that needs the extra grunt? We got demo'd the apps the kids use and they look VERY basic, like something that could run on like a 2nd gen probably :P

      • There was a deal on Amazon on iPad

  • 32GB

    dealbreaker

Not for the kids who want to watch baby shark on repeat.

Won't work for the remixed extended version….

  • At this price it's competing with Android tablets at a similar price (lenovo), but the ios store for tablet has much more apps and games etc. However no new major ios releases for this one - It doesn't mean this will become a brick straight away but as things push new updates it won't work for you. Store will still be fine for older apps, and web browser will still be good.

    • apps will need newer ios to be able to be updated.

  • Got one for my mom to watch her favourite shows on YouTube, many thanks !

A used, five year old tablet with 32GB storage? YIKES!!!!!!!

    • think about it this way: cheap second screen for someone's Mac..
