It will be 30k in 6 months like MG 🤣

      • +5

There are so many Chinese EV manufacturers trying to break into the market at the moment, it is so saturated its crazy, these will probably be worth half the rrp in a couple years.

        • +9

the MG4 outsold the camry in Sept/OCT due to that price.

Everyone trashes EV resale, but I see so many Toyotas camry's 2020 hybrids that were 39K new and now going for 23-24k in just 4 years, pretty massive depreciation.

          • @Mortgagetightass: I mean the Camry has been a dying model for a long time, everyone is moving to either hatchback styled sedans, like the MG4 or SUVs. Too many variables to only attribute this to the price point.

            • +1

@doobey1231: the camry has been the #1 selling car for 13 years since the RAV4/Ford Ranger though

              • +1

@Mortgagetightass: It hasn't been the number 1 selling car in Australia for a very long time, without looking I am pretty sure America and us are the only major markets for the humble camry now. I think they closed manufacturing somewhere recently too.

          • @Mortgagetightass: What's the RAV4 values like tho?

          • @Mortgagetightass: Let’s not forget that the Camry is on runout because there is a new model out/coming out.

The resale on Camrys are good, since they’re desirable as a ride share vehicle and a Toyota.

In before the muppets who confuse 'discount' with 'bargain'.

      wow a $20,000 iphone!

  • 420 km range?

    • -1

Yep. Pretty much the norm these days for a 70kWh battery

      • +4

        The Model Y gets 455km from a 60kWh battery pack. The Atto 3 gets 420km from a 60kWh pack.

420km from 70kWh isn't very good. Coupled with slow charging, this isn't looking great.

        • The Y has a more 'fastback' design, which is why it would be more efficient.

The Atto 3 is a smaller and lighter SUV

        • Realistically though the Y gets about 380-420 too, depending on style of roads/driving you're doing. Still very efficient for size of the bty.

          • +5

@FrugalityMaximus: Yep, but realistically the C1 isn't going to get 420km either. Both tested on the WLTP cycle so its the best comparison we can make.

        • +1

Maybe these guys are taking a new approach in being more upfront with real world figures rather than ideal conditions as they usually do

        • +2

          420km from 70kWh isn't very good

          Too bad it's not 69kWh.

    • +6

I'll bet most drivers won't need the full 420km, and will charge their car / top up well before the battery drops to 10%.

2020 : The average vehicle in Australia travelled 12,100 km per year, or 33.2 km per day.

Even at 50km/day, 350km/week. This is fine for city folk. My colleague who drives 200km a day, just charges overnight every night at home.

My EV floats between 30-80%. I plug it in at home or work or at lunch, like my phone. I'm lucky I have access to opportunistic charging, it would be harder if you lived in an apartment with no charger. My range anxiety has been non existent.

Of course, the person who drives 400km a day, or goes off road, no EV will suit them yet.

      • There are several EVs available that will easily do 500+ km on the highway on a single charge. None of them are particularly cheap though.

    • It looks like manufacturers are looking to under promise and over deliver these days. Article on the Kia EV5 yesterday - quoted 20kWh/100km, test run was 14.

  • -1

For this much money, wouldn't it be better to buy a couple years old japanese brands?

    • +1

Not if you're after an EV… But I would probably question the intelligence of anyone who buys this (being a total unknown quantity) over an Atto3, or even holding out to see what the Kia EV3 comes in at in terms of price.
Also there are a couple of mid-high 40k used Tesla Model Y's with fairly low km's in that price range.

      • +1

But I would probably question the intelligence of anyone who buys this (being a total unknown quantity) over an Atto3

I do not get this argument. 2 years ago, the Atto 3 was also an unknown quantity, yet people purchased them.

        • +9

2 years ago BYD was a major established vehicle (and battery) manufacturer - just not in Australia. Leapmotor sold its first car in 2019. BYD of 2022 is a much safer bet than Leapmotor of 2024.

        • +2

BYD was already a giant coming into Australia, and Leapmotor has startup vibes.

        • +2

People in Australia buy Utes not just for work or off-roading; they love their big, heavy, polished, and scratch-free Utes. So, don’t even bother talking about quality. Let them believe it’s better to get a Hilux that will last for 35 years, blah blah blah.

    • +1

You could say this about any proposed new car purchase. Sometimes you just want a new car

  • -3

    I'll get one when $25,000.

    • +3

lol just say you won't get it because these won't ever be 25k. Cheapest midsize SUV in Australia is over $30k

      • +3

According to the CEO of Mitsubishi, with a "blood bath" looming. With over supply heading to Aus (as we have no manufacturing industry to protect).

5 years ago they said interest rates would never go above 5% ever again….nek minute.

Butt has fallen out of the lithium spot price… But, looking at inflation, a $30k car is the equivalent of around a $15k car not long ago. So $30k is pretty cheap.

  • +9

    Is it a C1 or a C10?

Leapmotor and Stellantis – parent of Jeep and Fiat

    What could go wrong…

    • +2

to be fair to Leapmotor, Stellantis haven't touched this car, so you're probably safe.

      • +1

probably have to service thru Stellantis though

but yeah says a lot when people would rather trust a new upstart then a 'storied' Stellantis brand

  • +2

    tiktok access sold me.

  • -1

Any good reason to choose this over the BYD Atto 3? Better warranty is the only advantage I can see.

    • +1

      Markedly large car

    • It's bigger. If that doesn't matter to you, the Atto 3 is the obvious choice.

      • depends on who\what you carry.

One of my kids is over 185cm now, and I'm nudging 180cm, so no way they can sit comfortably in the back of the Atto3 whilst I'm driving.

Not sure about the C1, but I can assume that rear leg room is better.

        • +2

At 2825mm, C10's wheelbase is quite a bit longer than RAV4's (2690mm) and Atto 3's (2720mm), and just a bit shorter than Kluger's (2850mm) so I'm guessing the rear seats would be roomier.

    Im inclined to downvote because

    • Not a bargain, going by the comments

    • Not a discounted offer.

    • Not even a purchasable product, its a press release regurgitated by a 3rd party of a maybe release date with a maybe price, tbc

This is not a general forum. This site does have general forum. Post this there until its real, at the very least.

Ozbargain is being captured by organised teams pushing this kind of f***** garbage posting, and the mods are complicit by setting automated systems that

    • remove a downvote if very few accounts neg you in retaliation

    • remove your ability to downvote if this happens very few times. For months.

Easiest system to game in the world. By design, it seems.

    • +4

They should have released this car for $60k, so they could discount it to $45k straight away. Would get a lot more ozbargain votes that way.

      • Dont you worry. The disconts will come never the less.

  • +1

Best looking Chinese manufacturer so far.

Clearly inspired by the Koreans (and therefore, the Germans).

    • I'd say it's more German than Korean though. Lines are cleaner and overall less styled. The back is a damn near carbon copy of a Cayenne. If it wasn't for the shorter range, this would be a winner

      • Looks like a Genesis to me. Definitely something that would come out of Schreyer's lab.

    • Not to disagree but I recon the Chery Omoda looks amazing. I just don't know too much about the brand and I don't like the tacky name

      • +2

Personal preference, I guess. I hate the Lexus grille, which the Cherys are clearly mimicking, but obviously a lot of people must like that.

Chery will definitely have a lot of Korean influence soon, though, as they just signed a collaboration deal with KGM SsangYong.

        • Agree. The Omodo just looks over overstyled…

  • +1

$50k car (OR) without AA or ACP in 2024??? Yeah right.

  • Looks great to me.

  • Wish they would introduce the all wheel drive version to AU soon.

    • +1

Less range + higher cost + increased weight, AWD is unlikely to have many positives.

  • -7

I just look at buyers of CHINESE cars when i pull up and shake myhead at them in a "So Sorry" way.

    • And they look back at you, shake their head, and say who does that galah think he is - Tom Cruise.

  • No carplay on first version in Aus apparently

    • You answered my question of "what's AA/ACP?"

So they have built-in apps, including navigation. Anyone know what apps come pre-installed? And if there is a store as well?

  • HODL for Model Y Juniper

    • They're not really in the same size class or price range, but I agree that Juniper is only a couple months away and will be a significant improvement to what's already an excellent vehicle.

Bear in mind that the refreshed model will probably go up in price a few grand, at least for the first 6 months or so.

      • They are very comparable in size but Y will be a good bit more expensive

  • Warranty and Service?

  • Is this a ribbiting deal for you?

just judging from the deal picture, it does look like a toad.

    • sye. Tnhak yuo.

  • +1

no android auto or apple carplay on launch and cannot be enabled through OTA, since its missing the required hardware.
