Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Urban from $23990 Driveaway @ Chery Motor

1563

One of the cheapest brand new small SUVs available with good features for the price. Competes with the MG ZST Core discounted at the same price but has much better power (108kW) compared to the extremely weak 84kW from the MG while having the same advertised fuel economy. The interior is also much nicer with a more modern design.

Interesting to see the word "Pro", used in electronics like phones and tablets, being used by the Chinese in car names.

Unfortunately even if miraculously they somehow manage to make this available in Australia, the pricing will be about twice what it is in China

        • aftersales cost is much higher in Australia?
Guess Toyota in JP is also cheaper.

        • With central pricing and mainly GST I am wondering why 2x the price.. There is a greed tax as well.

Like Chinese lumin, is Chinese kw the new measuring standard… Then we'll need ANSI kw.

      • +1

ever a base model 3 can do 220kw… so 180kw thats a bit load for a pro max :D

  • Are dealerships usually open to the idea of negotiating on price, for a Brand New Car (In this case, Chery)?

    • +1

Depends if they’re owned by the manufacturer like Tesla does with their dealerships. If so, they won’t negotiate.

    • Usually there's some leway for negotiations. Or they'll at least throw in some extras (slim line plates, tinting, etc)

    • +5

Bargain when you get very good value for money. Do you prefer overpriced discounted products?
I wish it was EV for that price. I'm still waiting for BYD Seagull AU$18k in Thailand, $13-21K (+ other AU costs) in China. I prefer the new sodium batt ;)

      • +6

Reckon it will ever come? I pulled the trigger on MG4. Picked it up today. (profanity) me it was awesome to drive. Wayyy better than the test drive.

        • +2

It will, but the MG4 will be a great car for a LONG while. Once you go EV there is just no going back. After 5 years in a Tesla after Audi, Merc, VW etc every time I drive an ICE car it just feels like stepping 20 years into the past. And when I have to go to a servo to fill up a diesel vehicle I am just floored by the cost. How do people do that every week?

        • I've been asking over social media all the time & it's more likely now. The main problem is the safety pack. We have too many US-style 4WD/Utes that increase the risk of the others. In China/Thailand, most drive smaller practical cars & that pack is reasonable. They had to upgrade the Dolphin which increased the price. As the quantity/ awareness grows, the reduces support cost will make the smaller cars profitable to bring in AU.
Personally, even the EVs are better choice, the battery tech is improving & I would not spend big money on earlier models.
The Seagull has newer sodium batt, parking space of Yaris & internal as Corolla but advanced 360 view & features.

          • @taki:

In China/Thailand, most drive smaller practical cars………..

Not in the parts of Thailand I live and travel around in. I would estimate that at least 50% of the vehicles I see on the roads are full size SUVs or pick-ups.

      • +1

The dislike for overpriced discounted products and the fact that this isn't a place to post high-supply items at regular price are two completely unrelated issues.

  • +2

OP this deal is available till the 30th of November. Also Pro Ultimate model is $26,990 to $27,490 DA. Most probably this deal will get extended or this will be the normal price going forward.

@1st-Amendment: Are you suggesting modern German vehicles are built to the same quality and durability standards as their 1994 counterparts? I wish.

These days you'll get your South African built c63 with an engine bay full of plastic parts and an interior designed to last 10yrs at best. Not much different to other brands mind you but you're paying a premium for it.

              • -1

                Are you suggesting

What value would you gain from an answer to your question?

The lack of an answer is exactly the answer I expected. It confirms exactly what I thought.

                    The comparison is irrelevant

A comparison in order to compare things is irrelevant? Where did you go to school?

                    • +2

@1st-Amendment: What Chinese imports from the 90s are comparable to motor vehicles built in 2020s?

                      It's irrelevant, it's not a valid comparison

                • +3

@1st-Amendment: In the same way German standards have changed since 1994, so have Chinese.

You're creating a comparison between German vehicles at their best and Chinese at their worse (or non existent internationally).

If you want an answer to your question, yep, unquestionably German vehicles were outrageously better in 1994 than Chinese ones. That's 30 years ago - how much bearing does it have on the comparison today?

            • @1st-Amendment: yeah i still see peugeots from 98-00s zooming around, not usually in the best of shape but some are

              • @juki: The trend thats happening is people are buying 30+ year old cars to get Historic vehicle Rego status and pay peanuts for rego and insurance. For run arounds you can get away with the 60 day rule

                • +2

@easternculture: @easternculture the point is they are still zooming, i believe the following gen were less solid, like a lot of items from early 2000s, discovering chinese plasturgy). Interesting though, i'll have to pay attention to their plates next time

                  • +1

                    @juki: Yeah true.
Im considering buying a few 30+ year cars and using them as daily drivers. The insurance and rego/ctp savings should pay them off in 5 years

              Repaired: https://ibb.co/qpNYw4w

Chery has a warehouse in Melbourne which houses a lot of common parts - usually 14 days they say for parts but usually much quicker.

Repairs on this took 4 weeks as a week was needed to ceramic coat it after painting - you need to let the paint cure for 7 days.

Seems you're very behind the times…. Goes to show how good these cars are. Usually a roo will write a car off. We were travelling 80km/h

Just traded in a 5 year old Tesla that was in basically perfect condition because I wanted the new one. What makes you think that EVs die in 5 years time? (other than Murdock owned talking heads telling you that) Plenty of 10 year old Model S still running around.

I did however have to scrap a 6 year old ford transit van because its oil pump failed starving the engine of oil causing a catastrophic engine failure (rod through the bottom end) and the $18k repair bill quote was higher than the vehicle was worth.

New EVs with the latest battery tech will last far longer than ICE equivalents. And batteries are dropping in price so fast that replacing one will be a minor cost even if they do.

          • +1

            @dtpearson:

Just traded in a 5 year old Tesla that was in basically perfect condition

What was the range and how much did you get for it? And if it was perfect, why the trade?

Plenty of 10 year old Model S still running around

Plenty with terrible range worth 20% of their purchase price. I was looking a couple of months and the number of ads I read that admitted ranges around the 200km mark was a surprise.

I did however have to scrap a 6 year old ford transit van

What did you replace it with? I have a Hiace and there is simply no EV Van that comes close to it. So even if you hate ICE, if you need a practical commercial vehicle and clock up kms then EV is not a practical option.

because its oil pump failed starving the engine of oil

Did the oil light come on? Because it should have and you'd have to drive it a fair way after the pump failed to blow up the engine. I know because I've done it when I rebuilt an engine and put the head gasket on the wrong way and did exactly the same thing. The engine would still run for a while even with limited oil supply.

New EVs with the latest battery tech will last far longer than ICE equivalents

I actually agree, I love the idea of a car that needs almost no maintenance and can be made new with a cheap(ish) battery swap, but for me the thing I can't past is the range and charging issues. I don't have a place to charge and I drive interstate a couple of times a year and stopping every 400km's for hours at a time would be a huge PITA. My Hiace van gets me 800km and takes 2 minutes to fill almost anywhere. It'll be quite a while before EV catches up to that level of convenience.

They just like marching and are bad at reading maps.

          • @juki: “they can be pretty invasive “,
            yea, germans.

    • +24

they've already increased their prices like crazy… check out the latest Yaris and Corolla, insane prices.

for the germans… C200 used to be around 63k before onroads, now it's 78k… BMW went full d!ckh3ad and axed 320i and the range starts from 89k before onroads…

      • +39

BMW went full d!ckh3ad and tried to charge a subscription for heated seats, they deserve to go bankrupt for trying to pull something like that.

        • +8

They saved on the lack of an indicator function though😂😂

        • +12

          Wait wtf?

I've been driving Asian made vehicles for over 10 years (Hyundai and Kia) and honestly any time I get into a friend's Euro car 3-4x the price of mine, it really doesn't feel premium anymore.

I really don't get the appeal.

          • @tightm8: same i hadnt driven one in a decade or two and work got a vw polo '22 as a replacement, yikes, it was rough

          • +2

@tightm8: I love Hyundai and Kia, but you are joking if you think a euro 4x the price does not feel more premium. I love my Tesla and will never go back to euro, but Merc/Audi/BMW feel far more premium inside (tho the 2024 Highland Model 3 is pretty damn close)

            • -1

@dtpearson: BMW and Audi yes, mercedes hell no. they are notorious for build quality… way too much plastics and they creak and rattle like mad.

just look at their latest design language, it's hard to find another premium car with more plastic real estate in the centre console.

          • @tightm8: Hyundai, sell it now it's a major failure waiting to happen
