Chery Tiggo 4 Pro Urban from $23990 Driveaway @ Chery Motor

1563

One of the cheapest brand new small SUVs available with good features for the price. Competes with the MG ZST Core discounted at the same price but has much better power (108kW) compared to the extremely weak 84kW from the MG while having the same advertised fuel economy. The interior is also much nicer with a more modern design.

Interesting to see the word "Pro", used in electronics like phones and tablets, being used by the Chinese in car names.

BMW went full d!ckh3ad and tried to charge a subscription for heated seats

to be fair, it gives people an option for people that did not spec heated seats for their car to have the option to have it. it actually works out cheaper for those that only need the car for a few years + gives people the option to retrospectively spec it

honestly, not having heated seats is not a deal breaker. it's nice to have, but vast majority of cars don't even have it.

Toyota is already feeling the pain.

This is the same Toyota that is the world's largest car maker that had record sales last year and is on track to break them again this year? The same Toyota that has wait lists of customers that were recently over a year long?
Lay off the bongs, they're rotting your brain….

        • +6

sales are lower for toyota, they aint breaking sale records

        • +6

As of July, Toyotas Worldwide cumulative sales were down 4% (and more worryingly down 27% in Japan) compared to last year. If you think they are setting records, you need to go to Toyotas own website and download their financials. This will get worse as they have no viable EV options, and are perpetually "only a few years away" from a mythical battery breakthrough.

          • @dtpearson:

you need to go to Toyotas own website and download their financials

            I did.
Last reportable period (2023) was 10,307,395 units beating their previous record in 2022 by almost a million units (+7.7% growth)
So far to July 2024 it's nearly 6 million which if you do some basic maths (6M / (7/12months)) is about 10.3M, ie 'on track' to topping last year or at least matching it. I mean sure, no-one can read the future, sales could fall off a cliff in the last 5 months, who really knows. But thinking that Toyota is 'felling pain' in the midst of the best ever sales cycle in history is the pure bong talk.

This will get worse as they have no viable EV option

Is this comedy hour? Toyota's Strategy is hybrids, and guess what, Hybrids sales growth is outpacing EV's 10:1 which is why Toyota are the number 1 auto maker in the world.

But I don't expect you to take my word for it (or Akio Toyoda's either) this from the latest vFacts report:
"sales of hybrids were up 34.4 per cent, while plug-in hybrids (PHEVs) were up 89.9 per cent.

"Electric vehicles (EVs), in contrast, were down 27.2 per cent"

Put down the bongs… the world in your head is not aligning to reality.

What happened to the Getz/Excel market? Maybe it’s just inflation at work but if anyone could get something to market at that price point they would sell a lot of cars.

No maybe about it, it's inflation caused governments that ignore basic economic principles and increase money supply to pay for stupid, poorly thought out ideas. There is an election next year, you will have a choice if you want more of this or not.

It's a pretty tall order to hope we can vote in a Government that does a better job of managing inflation - the current round of high inflation was started with an LNP government and then continued with a Labor government.
The chance of a third alternative making it into power is pretty remote, I don't see anyone credible 🤷🏼‍♂️

        • Amazing. Certainly looks like it includes a lot. How are the safety feautures? Anything missing?

    • @Archer12

Hi mate, I test drove the Tiggo 4 Pro on the weekend, and I'm curious about your thoughts being an owner.

Do you find that there is a bit of a lag when letting go of the throttle? On my drive, whenever I lifted off the accelerator pedal, it felt like the throttle wouldn't shut off immediately. Instead, for a split second it felt like the engine is still revving. Do you have this sensation in your car?

Also, do you get used to the steering? I felt like there was absolutely zero feel in the steering, and I had no idea what the wheels are doing or where they are pointing. I found it a bit disconcerting.

I only had a 10 minute drive, and I really wanted to like the car. I'm just pondering whether these are issues that you would quickly get used to as an owner.

      • +1

        Hi mate

Caveat by saying had it only 1 weekend

I don't really notice the lag on the throttle, seems to cruise to a halt like any other car. What's more getting used to is the break pedal feel, it's softer ,but got used to it in a day. So much so that whilst driving our other car i was using it that way.

There is a turbo lag similar to other cars, along with the CVT it feels a few moments before it kicks in, nothing concerning, the power is plenty for urban environments and overall feels fine on freeways also

Steering is very very light, even in sport mode it doesn't stiffen up. Great for parking and slow maneuvers but getting used to on open roads. It's not direct like a sports car. Got used to it also though. This car replaced a 7 year old and it felt better than that

Overall tech and finish is great. The gamble is longevity, but they've sold a million of these world wide so happy to take this gamble.

Fuel hasn't been great, mostly urban and some spirited driving showed 12/100 that could change. Also will try 95 in the next tank, could be a bit of engine run in also.

Hope that helps, recommend take another test drive

Overall happy with the first 150kms or so only.

        • Thanks for the reply! Appreciate your feedback

        • Its a car with 7 years warranty… Worst case you loose 10k after 7 years of driving so a car for so thats a car for (23000-10000=13000/7 or under $2k a year plus rego, insurance and a service, so 3k a year and your mobile, good for 700km a tank. Buy a new BMW and do the maths!

  • -7

I'd love to see a ancap safety test on these, I think they would be a death trap.

a turbo diesel Audi V6 crate motor as a spare part is probably worth more than this entire car

  • +5

We actually got the Chery tiggo 7 ultimate and it's the exact same car as a Kia Sportage. One was $61,640 and ones $41,000.

We saved the $20,000 and the car has Mercedes features! It's extremely nice.

If I could upload photos I would and you'd be amazed. I now see why America is imposing Chinese taxes on their cars to protect Elon.

Chery has 2 other brands coming. Jaecoo and another. Keep in mind. Chery has the contract for Jeep, Jaguar and Land rover. We are getting an exact clone of a range rover but at $40,000. The original range rover made in the same factory (same car different badge) is $140,000.

Chery Jaguar Land Rover Automotive Company Ltd

You need to remember - your Honda CRV or Toyota Kluger is made for about $8,000 - $13,000. I believe even companies like Porsche run at 90% profit margins.

    • -8

The Kia shits on the Tiggo

      • +4

We test drove both. Sorry you got ripped off. We cancelled our Kia Sportage GT Line for the tiggo! The only feature missing is the remote reversing which we would never ever use. If that's a good feature for $20,000 then you got a deal.

Chery makes Jaguar Range rover and Jeep and I believe more brands have contracted them to make other cars in Europe.

        • +5

Brother, making those brands is not a caveat to be proud of.

          • -2

@LINK91: Well we're not comparing a $280,000 - $750,000 cars here. But we're definitely seeing features in cars up to $140,000 now available in cars under $50,000.

Such as Rear collision warning and seatbelt tightening which you'd find on a $160,000 Audi.

          • -7

@LINK91: Clearly a young person who has no idea about cars.

            • @Wizard: Clearly a 42 year old who owns 4 cars in this family.. I just know value when I see it but clearly you have no idea and probably never even test driven one.

I've seen videos of the tiggo 4 but never test driven one. I know there is a tiggo 9 coming too to compete with the Santa Fe.

              • -8

@neofelis: Having 4 cars doesn't make you an expert. The average aussie family has 3 to 4 cars.

                • @easternculture: That's what we own now.. we have had several cars. Tiguans to Audi Q5 to Honda HRVs to Mazda 3. Check out car expert /.cars guide they all have the same rating around 7.6 /10.

Never did I say was an expert but seems I know a lot more here than yourself. You're arguing against proof which is clearly posted below and a USER of the car! 8,900km on the clock over 5 months. It's not as if we owned the car for a week.

                  • +7

@neofelis: there's a particular ozbb problem where they have a heap of guys who have only owned a 2004 camry and a 2007 lancer and will go… "yeah so you own a Chery shitbox…. its brand new… it SHOULD be ok… come back in 5yrs 10yrs and talk… and like… is this your first car? then you are a noob… shut up"

so people LOVE to hear from supposed 'experts' but people who acutally OWN the cars???

there's a purity test where no comment is worthy of discussion… not even from owners

I've owned and driven cars from 70-80s 90s but to these guys… unless its wanking on about a 2004 camry they dont wanna hear it

where are these 'experts' out there? john cadogan coming here any time soon?

                    • @tonyjzx: I drive a BMW Series1 M Class, Own a Jeep (was free! spent under $500 on it for moding to a stealth camper for a holiday around oz) and Ive owned and driven everything and everything and I can say my mum will be moving from a Toyota Aurion to one of these tomorrow after trade its just a freaking good deal. Much better for an older person and cheaper rego 4 vs 6 and easier to park (smaller) with 7 years warranty so ill inherit it maybe so Im good with the decision! You do your own R&D, make sure its good enough, cheap enough and with enough nice stuff to justify buying or not, after all, its $ and its hard to find something used worth buying for much less than this with little at best (MG) warranty remaining! Every man and his dog owns chinese cars here in QLD, they are cheap and good value as the competition goes broke, its adoption time that will kill European and USA car sales here!
