Even after all these generations; they're very good, but the Dpad still leaves me feeling disapointed.

    • that's what she …

    • What about the dpad leaves you disappointed?

      • +4

Mostly actuation depth (I resolved part of this by shimming the membrane internally), transition feeling across diagonals, and the actual angle relative to hand position.

While 'left right up down' are all literally those directions; the angled part of the handle when you shift your hand down, means your more naturally hitting diagonals.
When you've had 30+ years of 'training' to hit buttons that are relative to your hand position, its a lot of unlearning to do.

Remember how many Xbox360 mags discussed this when Xbox Arcade first got big? People were doing things like missing tight pacman plays and such; thats why :)

        • Thank you for the precise answer.

I'm still using a heavily worn Xbox 360 controller for PC and looking to replace it with this.
From your comment I'm gathering the dpad feel is the same on these.
Did I understand correctly or will it be much different than the 360?

@ozilicious: The One and Series dpads are completely different from the 360.

Much more clicky instead of mushy.

The FEEL is improved. The positioning is not.

The 8BitDo controllers are notably more natural to use, because of the straighter grip position.

Great advantage of the Switch as a console is choosing a controller style based on the game being played. D-pad heavy games get played with an 8bitdo that gives it priority.

      • Even their gamecube style controllers have an interesting niche; the fact that the analogue stick has an 8 way diamond edge, means while it's still not as nice as a Dpad, it's a lot more tolerable for Dpad designed games. Stops you feeling like your 'freefloating' on the edge.

      • I think the switch pro controllers are pretty good for dpad stuff

Just beat me to it OP, was busy ticking all the guidline boxes

Probably worth mentioning that delivery should be free even if you don't have Prime….. Delivery ($0 with Prime/ $59 Spend) @ Amazon AU

It ain't easy being green, but if it means getting a cheap, quality controller, I can put up with it.

Damn that’s actually a pretty nice CW

  • Does not appear to be available anymore.

  • Damn too slow

  • creeper! amazing

but after 1.5 years on elite, I won't be able to go back to standard

    • +1

The actual Minecraft creeper controller is great though

    • damn, just looked them up, are they always so expensive or there are deals?

      • +1

I got mine for $168 from gamesmen ebay, core edition (white) couple years back. but had to buy the accessories separately so not sure how much I really saved there

it's totally worth it. people complain about them all the time, but I never had any issues with mine. still looks and feels like on day 1

but I am one of those ppl who take good care of their tech. not many things break in my possession so not sure I can contribute to the statistics. elite is heavy and solid, battery lasts ages, and I use the paddle controls at the back all the time, won't be able to game without them.

        • Found one on JB commercial for 166.10, so may pull the trigger as I need a 4th controller to play with the 3 kids now my girl is gaming too.

Will do a little research and look into these issues, thanks for the guide.

        • My elite controller came from the factory with dodgy buttons, the A/B buttons would often either double press or not press at all :(

Had two controllers get stick drift now, I'm on my third. At $100 a pop RRP it's kind of ridiculous. If my latest one breaks and I get another at full price that's $400 just to use one controller with XSX.

    • You should know stick drift is 100% covered by ACCC guidelines for faulty goods and you should be getting replacements free of charge. I'm on my 4th PS5 controller from one purchase. JB Hi-Fi has been very good in my experience with this.

You can get new Hall effect sensors (which are better) from Aliex for a few $$$… They fix the issue completely. Recently replaced the sticks on my kids ps5 controls after the dog ate them and realised how easy controllers are to repair. Fixed 2 of my old XSX controllers that literally looked new but had stick drift for like 8 bux. Def worth fixing

      • One of the controllers I had a collapsed bumper too, and the other I get double inputs on d pad as well. I spent hours one night going through the Microsoft website and at the end it says they can't help you, after entering serial numbers and all sorts. Can't be bothered.

  • Yeah I had trouble adopting to the Series S|X controllers early on, had a few with a stuck button (A/B/Y), then some had a stuck RT/LT or a completely inactive RB. But yes my last few got stick drift relatively early on in their lifespan. Don't know what's worse getting drift in the UP direction or a left/right combination. Funnily enough I've now had more Series S|X controllers than I had Xbox 360/Xbox One controllers combined (and I had over 10 Xbox 360 controllers, just from the amount of consoles I obtained due to the RROD lol).

My most reliable Series X|S controller has been the Shock Blue design. Probably more to the point it has been my go to controller when I game on pc (before I got the 8bitdo Ultimate Blutooth controller anyway). It's been 3 years and no button's have gotten stuck and no stick drift at all. That said I've used it to play many of the same games on pc as I have on the Xbox so it's had the same opportunities of wear and tear (Rocket League, Tekken 7 etc) but it's still alive and kicking.

As an aside It's probably worth retaining your receipt to wherever you've purchased the controller from and if it breaks within a year, take it back and get a replacement. Places like EB and JB have replaced them on the spot in the past (not so much from my experience as I've just moved on to the next. A lot of my controllers have been obtained from bonus point promotions eg: from Telstra) but from what I've read on gaming forums and places like whirlpool it happens).
    .

    • I might be the lucky one?? when I got my Series X, I bought Elite controller for it (core edition, white). it's been 1.5 years now, almost 2, no issues whatsoever. no drift, all buttons and controls operate as new

  • Damn I needed a new controller. My LB button is jammed. Good find but I'm too slow.

    • Have you tried taking it appart? Lots of YouTube videos out there.

      • I have but I'm too lazy to try do it. Also feel like I might stuff it up.

  • Anyone know how to remove a broken 3.5mm plug from the headphone jack?

    • +4

Put superglue inside one end of a plastic straw, let it set to the plug, and then pull.

      • Thanks for that, i'll give it a try.

  • Got the white one for $63
